This is an authentic place with a great atmosphere and food. It is like a small family run pub and the staff were fabulous. The food was delicious and the beer great. Good value and you can sit inside or outside. Highly recommended!

My fiancé and I ate here twice during our short stay in Vienna, and with good reason-- chef Robert Elsner cooked traditional Viennese dishes to perfection. From the classic Wienerschnitzer and housemade bratwurst to the topfenstrudel, everything was top-notch! Mr. Elsner was also very friendly and accommodating, and checked in on us to make sure we were well-served. I highly... More

We enjoyed their Wiener Schnitzel but most of all it was a welcoming experience to have a host who was friendly and accommodating. A must-try!

Real Austrian cooking ,the food was delicious and plentiful ,only downside they are not open at weekends. Robert is a great host we ate there three of the four nights .Ambience was old and friendly, outside is a kerbside patio. We were disappointed this year as they were not open , they chose to take holidays for August. This Gasthaus... More

A very nice service, delicious schnitzel, warm bread, friendly place indeed. The place is just like visiting Uncle's place. Nothing's luxury, a traditional small place at the corner of the street. But this is the place to go if you want to try the traditional Austrian meals. They have pork and chicken schnitzel, and some other choices, including goulash too.... More

I dined here last night. The waiter was very understanding of my lack of deutsch and gave me an English menu. He suggested a shredded pancake soup for entrée which was delicious. I chose weiner schnitzel for main. I also had a glass of apfel wein. Overall it was a good experience, food and service wad good and quite inexpensive.... More

Awesome atmosphere, good beer and food and friendly staff! I suggest the Schnitzel and Goulash Soup (It is the best I tasted in all of Vienna during my stay).

If you want to get away from the tourists and eat with the locals in Vienna, this is the place to eat. The food and the service was excellent and the atmosphere was priceless. The place was filled with locals and the owner really goes the extra mile for his customers to make them feel welcome. He had some great... More

Gasthaus Elsner is located close to our Pension (Pension Vitis) and within short walking distance. For dinner we had local beers, Goulash Soup, bread and local sausage. The prices are reasonable and we will return to try the other offers on the menu (especially the Wiener Shnitzel).

Thank Heinrich M

Staying in Ottakring

Neighborhood Profile
The production site of popular Ottakringer beer brews up an exciting mix of working and middle class suburbs, Balkanese immigrant lifestyles, and lush patches of hilly woodland. The recently gentrified area around Yppenplatz and Brunnenmarkt boasts hip cafés and bars next to South East European delicacies at Brunnenmarkt street market. The dynamics of Ottakring become most apparent at its vibrant high street Ottakringer Strasse. At the top end you can feast on wine and local food in Austria’s oldest wine tavern 10er Marie. The wines are from the tavern’s own urban vineyards. Before you head upwards, make sure you pay a visit to the historic courtyards between Lerchenfelder Gürtel and Hippgasse. When locals visit Ottakring’s hilly green outskirts on the weekends they either climb up 31 meters of Jubiläumswarte viewing tower on Gallitzinberg, have a succulent Wiener Schnitzel at Villa Aurora, or reward their hiking exertions around Wilhelminenberg with a drink and a view from Wilhelminenberg Palace (now a hotel and restaurant).
