Located on an attractive, small square in the quiet 2nd District, Mochi managed to squeeze us in without a dinner reservation. We were delighted to find it a non-smoking restaurant. We noticed too, that none of the sushi chefs or wait staff were Japanese, and that nothing especially Japanese decorated the premises; but this didn't matter, once the 'Mochi for... More

Reading the many positive reviews you can't help but conclude that either a hype or some serious Tripadvisor-rigging is going on. The food is not bad - but nothing special. A bit on the fusion-side - caught in the middle. Only a fraction of the staff is actually Japanese and so is the atmosphere. As this restaurant is slightly off... More

It is an extremely busy and trendy place requiring you to make reservations well in advance. It is all worth it as the dishes are innovative and tasty. We especially like the combinations of texture and flavour in their sushi rolls.

The food here is wonderful - really fresh and full of flavour. You will not regret trying the Sake Teriyaki which comes with Kimchi and is beyond words.

Indoor it is somewhat crammed so I've always taken away so far but during summer they have outdoor seating - not sure how it is but looks nice. It is really busy and because it is usually a spontaneous decision I take away form them because if you don't reserve your chances to get a place are small. Food is... More

I went there because I wanted to experience authentic Japanese food in Vienna. I was very disappointed from the many pretend-Japanese dishes. It didn't say anywhere that this was only "fusion" food.

Given the high number of waiters one expects much better service. Obviously the team is not well-rehearsed. The sushi taste somewhat fishy. I don't want to accuse anyone but I have my doubts. The warm dishes are OK but the bad experience with the raw fish made us weary. No match for the - international - competitions.

We went here because of the great reviews on tripadvisor. I really enjoyed dinner here! Food was excellent and very creative and prices good enough for the quality. Mochi is the best place for sushi and very trendy and run by young people who know what they are doing. Very good service. Great cocktails. A good value restaurant, I would... More

Staying in Leopoldstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Welcome to one of Vienna’s trendiest quarters. The second district has witnessed a turbulent ride, from medieval swamp to vibrant Jewish quarter, from pleasure ground for the noble and humble to current hip residence and workplace of Vienna’s creative crowd. Cross the Danube Canal from the city center and take in life on Taborstrasse with its mix of old townhouses, churches, theaters, discount shops and ethnic restaurants. Head for Augarten via Karmelitermarkt, Leopoldstadt’s trendy marketplace. Baroque Augarten itself hosts a bizarre mix of manicured hedges and flowerbeds in front of a colossal World War II defense tower, the publicly accessible 300-year-old Augarten porcelain manufactory, the palatial boarding school and funky concert hall of the Vienna Boys Choir, and the modern art museum TBA21. At its opposite corner, The Prater not only houses the Giant Ferris Wheel but blends a bustling amusement park with lush woodland, perfect for a bike tour. Further east is the old derby racing ground of Krieau.
