The Cafe Imperial inside the five star Imperial Hotel provides Viennese Gourmet Food. The food was averagely okay, but was too salty which does not really suit our appetite. This includes the Austrian soup which is highly overcooked. The service was nice, people were friendly and attentive along the whole meal. The ambience was nice but the windows were a... More

I was coming here as a kid and always getting enchanted by the perfection of the atmosphere and the exrtraordinary service. It was like being part of a movie. Recently the cafè has lost most of its charme. Kitsch modern chandeliers have damaged the magic allure. Service is disappointing. I asked a salad without tomatoes: I got a salad with... More

A quaint and regal cafe. Excellent attention by staff. Food quality outstanding. We had breakfast here and it was the perfect way to start the day

We wanted a slice of cake while in Vienna, and were choosing between the Sacher hotel, Dremel and eventually the Imperial. We chose the Imperial and couldn't have been more satisfied. The beautiful wooden boxes for take home create a worthy transport for this delicacy, but there is no question that this is one of the finest cakes in the... More

We stayed at the Hotel Imperial, of which we discovered this cafe a part of it. We only went there on the ground floor to try it at the end of our short stay in Vienna. The cafe was very tidy, clean, posh, and had delicious offers on its menu. I do remember that for some strange reason it took... More

We celebrated the eve of our 30th wedding anniversary here - my wife wanted to tr their renowned Wiener schnitzel and was not disappointed. The schnitzel was absolutely superb, light, golden, fluffy....just perfect. They knew it was our anniversary and we were offered a glass of champagne to begin the evening and after our meal they brought a plate of... More

Cafe imperial is a special place in the city centre, ideal for watching the world go by. I came in for a light lunch and had the tafelspitz and imperial tart. The tafelspitz was excellent but I will most likely return for the tart. I even got a tart to take away and they pack it nicely for you. Definitely... More

We just adore the Imperial Hotel and with some packages breakfast can be included. It is worth it as the selection is amazing and part of the Imperial experience!

Weisser Sparger (white asparagus) is in season in June and we felt lucky to get some in the form of a delicious soup. We also had salmon with asparagus & gnocchi and an order of Tafelspitz (boiled beef with rosti (fried grated potatoes) and apple-horseradish sauce). All were excellent. Service was good, as were the wines. For dessert we had... More

It looked good and probably was, judging from the large number of full tables, however after being ignored and pushed past twice by the waiter we just wanted to ask about a table, we left. The only experience of Incivility we have had in a great city with great service and helpful people everywhere. Probably just bad luck that we... More

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
