What a great place for a special treat. We tried the apple strudel with a glass of fizz and it was delicious, the vanilla sauce especially. The building is very impressive, and overall it was a very enjoyable experience. Well worth a visit.

This Vienna Classic is known for its perfect coffee, and its delicious sweets. The building is also impressive. As usual there is a queue outside, but it is worth the wait. The staff is very busy but efficient. Some might see this as rude, but we have seen worse in nearly deserted places.

What a beautiful and characteristic place! That atmosphere is enchanting! The coffee list is inviting and the cakes are so beautiful that you're not quite sure that you really want to eat them, but then how can you not try these delicious sweets!

When in Vienna.... this is a must! Beautiful building, stunning interior. We visited in the morning for breakfast and were seated straight away, it was busy but not horrendously so. We did see the queue out of the door on other days so be prepared to wait. Our breakfast was fantastic, not cheap but well worth the ambience of being... More

Stopped off here for second time this year for a coffee and cake. Lovely setting. Old fashioned Vienna style cafe run by freindly helpful staff. Choice of cakes and coffee unrivalled. Definitely call in again.

We spent a few days at the Steigenberger Hotel Herrenhof, a few steps from Café Central. We chose to book our room excl. breakfast and had breakfast here every day. The quality of food and pastey is outstanding and the staff very friendly. You can feel the very long history and tradition of this place. A must-see on every Vienna... More

We loved cafe central, it has great atmosphere, great service and fantastic food. Had goulash with dumplings, which were awesome. We also had several cakes, they were all good and we also packed some for home. Highly recommended, if in Vienna..

I can highly recommend this place. We enjoyed our dinner so much. Very good quality for fair prices. You can breathe the history of the place there. Definitly a Must See when you visit Vienna!

This cafe gives you a very traditional experience of Viennese cafes and is very majestic. It is located in the city centre and is a great coffeehouse. The food was very delicious and the staff were reasonably helpful. It is definitely a must for anyone who visits Vienna.

Staying in Inner City

Neighborhood Profile
Inner City
In Vienna's best-known district, pedestrian boulevards Kärntner Strasse and Graben connect you with landmarks such as the Wiener Staatsoper (Vienna State Opera), Vienna’s iconic Stephansdom (St. Stephen’s Cathedral) and the vast compound of Hofburg, the Habsburgs’ former Imperial Palace. Peek down side streets such as Annagasse and Weihburggasse, and Graben’s Seilergasse and Habsburggasse, to get a feel for the center. The Imperial Apartments and the refreshingly demystifying Sissi Museum are must-dos at Hofburg. Spacious squares such as Am Hof and Freyung often host beautiful seasonal and antiques markets.
