We stayed at the Holiday Inn in the Margareten section of Vienna. They gave us a map with local restaurants. One evening we chose the Haas Beisl, tentatively, as the reviews mentioned the smoky atmosphere. We are not smokers. Yes, you can smell smoke, but the food experience was worth it. And the owner (we presume) said that within 2... More

Had a wonderful meal and what a fantastic wine list. For a small establishment it is rare to come across a place with such an extensive and very reasonably priced selection of wines. Mostly Austrian but wow - excellent and if you enjoy a good wine to accompany good food then I definitely recommend it

Quirky pub, good ambience, during our visit there was only a couple of people smoking but it wasn't smoky at all, unlike many other reviewers were saying, but the food was very plain and overpriced for what it was. A glass of soft drink like lemonade cost more there than a glass of wine!

We really enjoyed the well-prepared food, friendly service and warm cozy local atmosphere at Haas Beisl during a recent dinner, with one major reservation. The kitchen definitely knows what it's doing, from the delicate Kürbiscremesuppe several of us started with, to well-prepared game specialties including Hirschragout and Schnitzel vom Wildschwein, and fine renditions of Viennese classics such as Fiakergulasch and... We found this small restaurant accidentally on the way back to hotel. Hungry, frozen and tired we decided to come in because we looked for something local for our soon dinner and a small rest. We did a good decision. It is a warm and very cosy traditional restaurant with only around 30-40 seats. Almost empty at 5pm but all... More

Food is very fine but there is no no-smoking area and we had to eat in something like a gas camera. I know that Austrian laws are not dealing with smoking in public rooms but a good level restaurant shall have at least a no-smoking area.

Visited early on new year with family. Very friendly. Fine food. Traditional viennese stuff. Good choice of austrian wine. Liked yhe puddings less than mains. But a very warm welcome from staff. Good blend of locals and tourists.

Family run restaurant, you may need to book, food and service EXCELLENT, very good Austrian/ German wine list. Take time to look at the photo's. Toilets are a art in themselves, might have been designed by a Viennese artist. Take your time to enjoy the food , no rush , the owner , his 2ife and mother speak very good... More

No-nonsence Austrian "beisl". Food was simple, but delicious. Wiener Schnitzel was crispy and not oily and made from veal. Great wines available per glass (large selection of Gruner Veltiner). The main negative point is that, believe it or not, one can still smoke inside!!

Staying in Margareten

Neighborhood Profile
Margareten
This former working class district blends hip eateries and avant-garde cinema with a time travel into 1950s Vienna. Feel the district’s pulse at Margaretenhof and Schlossquadrat. 19th-century Margaretenhof is a local icon, yet has very non-Viennese architecture with its brick structure and cast-iron verandas. The nearby urban Renaissance castle of Schlossquadrat houses several restaurants. In the summer you can sit in its romantic shady courtyard over Schnitzel and Kracherl (traditional fizzy syrup). Siebenbrunnenplatz and its surrounding shops and grocery stores have remained virtually unchanged in the past 60 years: taking a walk there is like stepping into a 1950s film set. Speaking of movies, head to avant-garde cinema Filmcasino in the evening. It often stages foreign language cult films.
