Excellent service and nice food. Highly recommended for a nice lunch with the family, or go alone. The service is very good and the sausages and Sauer kraut excellent. I really enjoyed it. And they had wifi!

Stayed in a hotel just round the corner from this café and ate there one evening. The place itself is full of character and it does feel like you have gone back in time. Food is fairly basic Austrian fare but decent size portions and two can definitely share a bowl of chips. It's slightly out of the main tourist... More

Cafes in Vienna are institutions not just a place to have a quick cup of java, but to hang around, relax and watch your fellow travellers do the same thing. Cafe Eiles is just like that and with nice interior and friendly service it is absolutely worth stopping by. It happened to be around the corner from our hotel and... More

I was caught in a storm, and reluctant to venture far from my hotel without an umbrella, sought refuge at this café. It is not as up-market as, say, the Landtmann, but is very pleasant indeed, traditional in the best sense, and has very approachable and hospitable staff, and reasonable prices. I was in fact very lucky, because I was... More

Grab a window-side banquette if you can. Lovely big room, arched ceiling. The food is pretty basic, cheap and large helpings. My ravioli was a huge plateful but nicely done with olive oil, parmesan and pine-nuts atop. My spouse's pork schnitzel was thick coating thin meat, though plentiful; salad accompaniments were rough and ready. Puddings were good, moist 'house recipe'... More

My wife and I popped in one evening during our stay in Vienna as we were not terribly hungry but needed to eat. It was cloae to oyt hotel. The ambience is very "Vienna" albeit in need of some TLC in terms of decor. Service is friendly and efficient, and the food was simple, tasty and inexpensive. My wife had... More

We were staying at Hotel Graf Stadion and this place was handy for a nightcap and piece of cake. They did run out of gin, one night, which I found strange but the staff were friendly, the cakes were delicious and just a lovely place to spend the last hour of the evening.

Thanks a lot of enjoying our Cafe Eiles. Next time we will manage that the gin won't run out, but as you know nowadays Gin is very popular and we are not used so much in a coffee shop to sell spirits. But next time............ More

We had a very good meal here on our second night so went back later in the week. Very pleasant staff who took time to explain the food in an old world feel cafe.

Nice enough coffee but a bit sole-less with staff who seemed a bit bored with their job. The cakes were not the best we had in Vienna.

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
