Fantastic. Traditional Viennese coffee shop with people debating, others reading provided newspapers, tourists like us, all enjoying the nice atmosphere. Nice to give a positive review. Hot chocolate on a cold night delicious. Warm and welcoming. Friendly staff. Watch out for the vast quantities of cream served with the cakes-have to walk miles to walk off. Had a few meals... More

Authentic atmosphere of a Viennese coffee shop, nice coffee and chocolate. Our favorite morning place in Josefstadt.

Just around the corner from where we were staying in Vienna we were sorry not to have discovered this excellent cafe earlier. We had gone in to the City Centre not realising it was a Bank Holiday and most places were closed. On our way back we saw this cafe was open and gave it a try. Obviously popular with... More

The waitress is overloaded and had all her anger from management put on us spiced with prejudice since she is very friendly with German speaking customers.

The food is average, nothing was tasty. The service was not good. If you don't speak German it is very difficult to communicate in English. Although most of the waiters did speak English, one of them was refusing to speak to us in English. Will definitely never visit this place again.

Delighted with the cheery service and good food which was fully explained by our waiter. Always leave room for their excellent assortment of cakes - apple strudel was brilliant! It was obviously well supported by locals which is always a good sign

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
