My hotel's breakfast buffet costs €18 per person...no thanks. Luckily next door, Cafe Eiles has breakfast plates €6.50-13 each, which includes coffee, or even champagne. The €8,70 "English" Breakfast is interesting, because its nothing I've seen in America, Ireland, or the UK...two fried eggs with bacon and chives cooked into it, served with toast and coffee. Pretty good regardless! (FYI:... More

My husband and I were on our way back to our hotel to ready ourselves for dinner when we stopped at this wonderful spot. We took a table and dinner plans were made. The service was fantastic and friendly, the food delicious. Dessert and coffee were a bonus. In fact on the following evening, our last in Vienna, we returned... More

I like this place for its good coffees and cakes and its authenticity. it is not a typical place for young people to go but every now and then I would like to go there and enjoy a Viennese cafe in a typical Viennese cafe in the beautiful Josefstädter street!

We had walked past this place for three days en-route to our hotel. It was always full of locals which I think is a good indicator. If it's pulling in the Viennese it must be good? We weren't disappointed. I had the gulash with dumplings and mum had the ravioli. Both portions were generous, the gulash was gorgeous. Very hearty... More

We made several visits to Cafe Eiles because it was close to our hotel. The food, while not gourmet, was quite good and the service was always friendly. There's a great variety of food, from a snack to a full meal and their desserts are not to be missed. The prices are reasonable in a city known for high prices.... More

Well, the soft-boiled egg was hard-boiled but this is not why a visit in a traditional Viennese coffee house is a must for residents and tourists. It is the special atmosphere, difficult to describe. Anyway, the Café Eiles is one of the best of its kind, and it was the "home" of one of the best actors ever, Oskar Werner.

Cafe Eiles is the typical coffee place in Vienna. It has a great coffee, strudel and bratwurst for a very good price. Very efficient waiters with a fast and good service. Also has free wifi, in case you are looking for that also

We enjoyed our breakfast here very much. The cafe was very lively on a rainy Friday morning. The food was well prepared, the portions were pretty large, and the price was reasonable. There was only one waiter, but he managed to keep up with everyone, and was very friendly and helpful. We will go here again.

Excellent service and nice food. Highly recommended for a nice lunch with the family, or go alone. The service is very good and the sausages and Sauer kraut excellent. I really enjoyed it. And they had wifi!

Staying in Josefstadt

Neighborhood Profile
Josefstadt
The eighth district is an older generation’s Vienna at its finest: and this is what makes it popular with locals of all ages. Josefstadt has theater, small independent shops, romantic passageways, neighborhood cafés with regular clientele, church squares, town palaces and shady communal gardens. Trendy hangouts have conquered distinctive places such as the Old General Hospital (Altes AKH) and the vaults of overground U6. Theater in der Josefstadt on Josefstädter Strasse is the district’s cultural epicenter. Even if your German isn’t good enough to watch a play, you can marvel at the typical Biedermeier building and take a glimpse into the foyer. Lange Gasse houses an iconic local restaurant at its corner, as well as a legendary sweet shop and a bustling neighborhood market every Saturday. For small palace atmosphere and a different view on Vienna’s history, make your way to Schönborn garden palace (Palais Schönborn), which houses the Museum of Folk and Folk Art (Volkskundemuseum). Maria-Treu-Platz, with its summer outdoor cafés facing baroque church Maria Treu, and the historic passageway of Lerchenfelder Strasse 13 hide top spots for insiders.
