We enjoyed the food here, like beef tartar, fish, cordon blue. Desserts are pretty unique too. It’s not inexpensive and it’s not the best atmosphere but it’s a pretty original and unique.

Very cozy place and a wide range of seasonal menu.
Pumpkin soup and risotto were just splendid.
Will definitely visit this place again.

Only at Seidl Gasthaus you can try the best “Wiener Schnitzel“ in Austria.
Cozy atmosphere and very friendly owners.
I would definitely recommend you to visit this nice place in the centre of Vienna.

The food was excellent. HOWEVER, I would never go back to Gasthaus Seidel, and would STRONGLY recommend that YOU AVOID this restaurant, altogether. WHY? 1) On the Internet, the restaurant indicates that credit cards are accepted. When it was time for us to pay, we received a handwritten note on a small piece of paper with one word descriptions of what we ordered, a corresponding number and a total amount due. We were then abruptly told that we had to pay cash. We were surprised, to say the least, but we didn’t argue and we had to go to a bank to withdraw some money. 2) We were overcharged for a small piece of bread and butter (4 euros) a 750 ml bottle of still water (5 euros) and a small dessert (14 Euros). 3) The man who served us, who I believe was the owner, walked into a chair and knocked it over as he was leaving our table, and he let go of a menu that he had given guests at another table and it flew under our table, which led me to believe that he had had too much to drink.

They have a limited card but everything on there is worth a try. The ‘Rostbraten’ was delicious and the chocolate mousse desert even better. Highly recommended for traditional Austrian food with a twist.

My cab driver told me I had to try the Seidl. He had not yet visited himself but had read newspaper stories that is was the best Austrian restaurant in the city. As I checked into my hotel, I asked their thoughts and they agreed on the great Austrian food but no longer recommended to customers due to complaints about rude wait staff. That meant we had to try it. We found the food great (especially the potato salad that comes with your Wienerschnitzel,) and the wait staff disappointingly lacking in rudeness. However, points of warning: 1) menus are in German, don't expect an English version, 2) our waiter spoke only a little English, 3) payments are cash only, no credit cards. Luckily, the 4 of us spoke enough German to read the menu and interact. Maybe they're more rude to English-only speakers?? I cannot comment but suspect folks are off-put that the world is unable to speak English for their convenience. My recommendation: get some authentic Austrian food from the Seidl even if you need to just point at a menu item that you hope will be good. My bet is that you will not be disappointed.

not easy to find a restaurant open on mondays and get a good response visiting for the first time on short notice. one of our best friends - a professional food guide - has known the chef for some time. trust turned out to be a very good recomendation not only for an excellent schnitzel and boiled beef but very rare and excellent wine list. easy to really recomend to anyone who loves viennese food and goid wines!

Inconspicuous restaurant with very good food. As with another reviewer, we are staying at the Imperial Riding School Hotel and wanted to get something close by. We’re glad we did. I had the beef shoulder - Wow. So tender and the sauce was exquisite. Served on a bed of root vegetables- tender and wonderful. My girlfriend had salmon (which she has everywhere) and said it was scrumptious. Served on a pea purée and loved it. Both Herren Seidl (father and son) were very pleasant and attentive. We speak no German and they both speak fluent English. I read about the review where the reviewer was upset about no credit cards. Fortunately, that was not an issue since we were not intending to charge our meal. Note that while most places take cards, most also prefer cash. We recommend Seidl for very good simple food, and we do not mean simple to be derogatory.

The Gasthaus Seidl is a few yard from the entrance to our hotel, the Spanish Riding School Marriott, so we tried it our first night in Vienna. To our surprise, the place was packed and we were lucky to get a table. The schnitzel was wonderful, as were the soups and sausages. Fantastic evening.

I took a group of colleagues here and I will not be back. Despite their good food (both taste and appearance) their bad service makes the experience not worth the trouble. The owners dined in front of us instead of serving us. Final drop was the unapologetic communication that they don’t take credit card and the resulting scrambling for cash.

We had a chance to visit through a recommendation. The food was amazing. If you want a true feel of Vienna cuisine. This is the place. Not far from the center of the city.

The weal schintzel is magnificent. Nice waiters, cold beer, good choice of wines and a classic Austrian restaurant.

We took our guests to Gasthaus Seidl for a genuine Viennese meal.. wanted our guests to enjoy a authentic Schnitzel. The food was good, but the service is a desaster! I dared to order a "housewine" and the rude service lets you feel you are not a good guest Very unfriendly and we were SO ASHAME! And this was not the first time we got bad service in Seidl so we decided it is the last time! There are so many nice locals in Vienna.. you don´t need to PAY to get unfriendly service.

Went in after seeing the reviews and were pleased by what we got. The kids tried the wiener Schnitzel (both veal and pork), which were great. My wife tried a soup and I had a Beuschel, which is veal lungs. It was prepared with Riesling wine and accompanied by a bread dumpling. Absolutely recommended. The wine offering centered on local ones for a very good price, we paid 25€ for a good bottle of red.

Seidl is an unadorned, simply decorated place, with good, friendly service. I had a steak in pepper sauce, cooked exactly as I ordered it. It was very good. One of my companions had duck, the other chicken, and they were both pleased. One of us spoke fluent German, and that may have helped, as the level of English spoken there was somewhat basic. They do not take credit cards.
