Fabulous restaurant in old town Salzburg. Fine selection of locally brewed beers and traditional Austrian cuisine- plus some lighter fish dishes which my wife appreciated!
Always busy - important to reserve ahead.
First of all, definitely make a reservation. The place is apparently always packed and mostly with locals which is always a good sign in a tourist city.
Secondly, as others have mentioned...BRING CASH! They don't take credit cards.
We went here for dinner after Christmas,...so it was very very busy. Even though we had a reservation, the waitress misunderstood and told us we had 90 minutes to eat and be out before they needed the table. She didn't speak a huge amount of English, but once we showed her on our phone that we had a reservation.More
We attend Mozart Week every other year, and we always have at least one dinner at Gasthaus Zwettlers. The food is great, and we are always made welcome. And..they are open on Sundays, which is not true for many restaurants in Slazburg. Come hungry..the portions...are big, and the beer is great!More
We booked this restaurant based solely on the reviews it had received and it certainly did not disappoint. It is just off Mozart Square and stepping inside we were warmly greeted and shown to our booth at the back of the restaurant which is steeped...in history and old treasures decorating the walls. The waitress was so friendly throughout always stopping by to see if she could get us anything. The menu is very detailed I had the pork on a skewer which was so tender my husband had a traditonal minced beef and pork dish which he loved. This restaurant is a must to experience traditional austrian fayre in a warm and friendly environmnet. It was full of locals which is always a good sign!!!!More
We were lucky, we didn't have a reservation, but were able to get a table. It is advertised everywhere that this restaurant is cash only. My husband had the schnitzel and I had the bratwurst. Food was so fresh and tasty, great beer too. Service...was efficient, forgot one of our salads and corrected this as soon as we mentioned it to him. And finally the apple strudel was huge and delicious, all of this for under 50 Euros.More
This was the best place I visited in Salzburg! We wanted traditional austrian food and atmosphere and this was perfect.
Very busy but we had a drink and the bar before being seated. The food was delicious. My partner had the shnitzel and I had...some amazing meat mix with an egg.
The nockerl was way too big and sickly for 2 people, but Im glad I tried it.
Recomment this place to people wanting to experience culture.More
Fabulous Austrian cuisine tonight in a restaurant just off Mozart Square. We popped in earlier today to reserve a table for this evening. Staff were friendly. Beer was good and the food excellent. 6 vegetarian options. Salzburger Nockerl a soft meringue type pudding is local...and really best shared between 3 people. Please note - restaurant only takes cash payments. Would definitely return.More
Having made an impromptu visit to Gasthaus Zwettlers a couple of days earlier we were disappointed to not get in as it was so busy. We made a reservation there and then to be sure to get a table later in the week. This is...a traditional Austrian restaurant.
We enjoyed this restaurant very much. Every aspect of it was outstanding.
We sat at one of the high tables to the left opposite the bar ........ a great place to see everything that goes on.
The service was outstanding throughout; efficient and with a smile.
Our food was well presented, very tasty and good size portions.
Gasthaus Zwettler is well worth a visit but I would advise you to make a reservation.More
