I cannot even begin to understand how people recommend this venue as the number 1 bakery for the famous Linzer Torte, and how the bakery itself abuses this reputation so blatantly. I ordered a slice of Linzer Torte and a slice of a layer cake, to go. As you can see in the attached picture, the Linzer Torte arrives pre-packed,... More

Konditorei Jindrak is famous for its Linzer Torte which is being made here since 1929. It is the oldest known cake in the world. It is a delicious Austrian torte made by confectioner Jindrak. We bought a small one for €7.85 to take back home. It was purchased from the Jindrak store at Landstrasse in Linz. Truly a good sweet... More

Recommended by a local friend, the cafe has decent (not amazing) coffee and is home to the Linzer Torte, apparently one of the oldest cakes in the world. A nice little place to start the day.

Great cakes, yes, terrific, tastes, traditional, alright. We kept buying them from time to time, for friends, customers, etc. Got one more today: approx 25 euros for the biggest "Linzertorte", comes in a nice carton alright. However: asking for a plain plastic carrying bag - so you don't walk around with a cake everyone knows right away what you are... More

I would not travel to Linz to have a cake and cup of coffee in the Jindrak Konditorei, but if you happen to be in the center of Linz, this cake shop and cafe is a good option. You can taste the local Linz Cake - The taste might be surprising at the begining, but then you find out the... More

A linz tourist website recommended the linzer torte here, so we stopped off after visiting the cathedral. I was a bit disappointed. The cakes were wonderful, and coffee ok, but bought the surroundings a bit basic and waitress staff rather unwelcoming. Not worth a special trip, but ok if you're passing. You can buy cakes to takeaway which looked interesting...

We ordered topfen strudel with vanilla sauce and 2 cups of coffee. The coffee came straight away but the strudel took 25 minutes (when all they have to do is reheat it). The people at the table next to us who arrived and ordered after us got their order (which also included strudel with vanilla sauce) about 15 minutes before... More

My first stop after checking in to my hotel. It's the house of the original Linzertorte & this original Jindrak opened in 1929 & is still run by the same family. The original recipe is from1653. The older room downstairs is quaint BUT it's for smokers! The modern room in the front is for nonsmokers. The older upstairs room is... More

I found this cafe by chance, not knowing that they were famous for their Linzer Torte cake. Going by the looks of the cakes and my chocolate craving, I settled for their chocolate mousse cake, and it was very, very good. Unlike the other comments below, there weren't tourists in the cafe. I'm not sure but I might have gone... More

This noble bakery, inventor of the Linzer Torte, has been swallowed by tourists arriving every few minutes by bus. They do make beautiful pastries and desserts, and they have a to-go counter, but perhaps you would be better served patronizing one of their many, many competitors in Linz.
