Great place with excellent service and reasonable food

This is a fun place, with great service, quite large portions, without loud and annoying music. A portion of this is a classic dish with many types of meat, appetizers and even dessert. It comes out to about 180-190 NIS per couple (without drinks) which is definitely reasonable. The reason I didn't give five stars: the food is ok, nothing more. Too much salt here, too dry there, which is a shame. Because I really wanted to give five stars because of the experience.

If you think that you know great lamb, then come to the Meze Taverna Restaurant in Limassol City, Cyprus; this family-run restaurant will prove you wrong. I've eaten lamb all over Greece and Turkey, and in all of the states of Central Asia, and never had lamb as I did tonight! And before the lamb, came a great shrimp dish; and after the lamb, came a great orange pudding! What also made the dinner wonderful was that there was none of the usual pretensions; just a genuine make you feel like a local friendliness. For those not rolling in money, you need to know that the cost was exceptionally reasonable. One should also know that you need a reservation because the operation was run efficiently so that there was never a line waiting to get in, and never an empty table. I don't know what else to say about this family and their restaurant; five-star in every category!

We returned for a second visit following spending our first evening meal in Limassol at Meze. The food is excellent as is the service. Standouts for me were the house white wine, potato chips (freshly cut and made) the dips/ pitta bread, vegetarian keftedes and the egg and courgette. We tried both the meat and the vegetable which I would recommend as a great way to try lots of tasty dishes. Great value for money and if there was something that wasn’t hitting the spot you didn’t have to wait before something else delicious was brought from the kitchen. We had complementary pastries and coffee at the end of our meal which was a lovely touch. It is busy with locals and visitors so you really need to book. We did this prior to leaving the UK as previous reviews had mentioned this which was useful to know.

We ate well there but we did not feel we could take our time. The dishes on the mezze were served far too fast and the atmosphere was somewhat electric. In addition, we had wanted to book by 8:15 p.m. and their Reservation System indicated that there was only one availability left at 6:30 p.m. So we agreed. At 8:30 p.m. we were always present in the establishment and we found that several tables were available. Disappointing!

Super friendly staff. Very helpful, even our wine was always topped up. Super tasty food. Despite the large number of people, the food came incredibly quickly and was really tasty. I can only recommend it to everyone. Please make a reservation otherwise you have no chance of getting a table. The boss was extremely helpful and kept squeezing tables in between reservations, but there were soooooo many people wanting to eat that he had to keep putting people off. Absolutely a must-be restaurant in Limassol

Atmosphere buzzing, mix of local and multinational languages. Food service prompt and food was plentiful - too much, we shared the meat Meze - seemed rude not to. Sausages sadly though tasty were verging on inedible - too dry and crisp. However we got a taste and there sadly was way too much to eat.

Why so terrible ?

As a long time Trip reviewer I always read carefully all restaurant comments. I have rarely experienced a meal so bad OK, the baby calamari were lightly fried, but then the lamb cutlets, overcooked to the consistency of shoe leather. My colleague had Moussaka, a reheated dried up dish that he returned to the kitchen. The bill was reduced but no real apology or explanation How can a recognised restaurant get it so wrong ?

A great find!! We were wandering around looking for somewhere to have an early lunch and didn't want to eat on the seafront. Came across Meze as we were walking through the streets and decided to give it a try. We were a little early but we were allowed to sit inside and order some drinks. Soon our order had been taken and we opted for the meat meze for the four of us. It was a substantial meal, and various dishes arrived at the table in a timely manner. Everything was well presented and well cooked, it was a struggle to finish all the food. Service was really good, professional & polite, very attentive. The place was quiet when we arrived but when we were leaving it was really busy. I think to eat late lunch or dinner would recommend booking to be certain of getting a table! Wouldn't hesitate to return to Meze, meze for 4 with drinks came in at just under €100 whih was really good value.

Fantastic taverna and amazing for gluten-free

We called in here on the way from Paphos to larnaca airport as it had great reviews for gluten-free food. Totally lived up to our expectations Friendly staff who were so helpful Even though the meat meze wasn’t indicated as GF the waiter advised my wife there was only 3 thinks she couldn’t eat so she was delighted to be able to join us. The staff clearly fully understand what gluten is and can advise accordingly

Absolute Gem of a Place

Went here for lunch on a day trip to Limassol from Peyia. Service was great, very friendly and a good mix of people arriving at the restaurant. Portion size was large, we were both completely stuffed so o could not manage dessert! Owner was chatty and very helpful when we asked for advice, he recommended us a beach to visit as we wanted peace and quiet, his recommendation was spot on and made our holiday so thanks! In fact we liked the beach so much we went back for a second visit. If we go to Cyrus again and are near Limassol I will definitely eat here again. Amazing - thank you so much

We happened to pass by. Although it was low season, the restaurant was almost fully booked. The friendly gentleman at the reception desk in front of the restaurant offered us a table for 1 hour and 20 minutes. We thought it was OK for 2 people. What luck! A really great restaurant with quick, very friendly and professional service. Great dips as starters. Then baby calamari and kleftiko (oven-cooked lamb). I have rarely eaten such a good kleftiko. We can recommend this restaurant without reservation. But be sure to make a reservation - we were also advised to do so again, as it was full every evening.

Not just any port in a storm

I have to confess we did no research on the evening we chose to dine here. Having spent the day in the Troodos Mountains we dropped down into Limassol during a thunderstorm. Hungry and tired I summoned Siri’s advice for somewhere to eat. Luckily for us Meze Taverna was roughly 200 yds away. Even luckier we were able to get a table without having made a reservation. It became clear that this was a popular establishment, very busy on a Tuesday night with a good mix of nationalities. The staff were attentive and friendly. The food was excellent. Salad in the UK is generally served as an aesthetic but here it is a main event, very fresh as if it had been picked straight from the garden. We even indulged in a dessert and there weee a couple of freebies brought to the table. I only wish we had a Meze Taverna in our home town I don’t think I would eat anywhere else! Thank you.

Fantastic service and great welcome on arrival. We had the meat meze which was all delicious, such a wonderful selection and everything served piping hot when appropriate. Lovely to try different dishes and amazing value. We ate far too much but it was all too good to leave! My husband had been here before but this was my first time in Limassol so a great introduction to the cuisines of the area

My husband and I shared a divine meal of mixed grill, village salad and moussaka, in this quaint and attractively decorated taverna. Fresh top quality flavours! We couldn’t help but finish every last bite. The staff was so friendly and attentive, The nut-filled lady finger pastries offered after the meal were truly divine:
