Fantastic experience with lots of surprises and attention to detail. Waited 2 years to come and try and it’s well worth a visit

We have always argued that lunch is even more important than dinner and, should be given more love and attention than it currently merits now. My wife insists that our physical and mental health will both thank us. Not many restaurants on the Island open up for lunch so choosing a good one is no mean task. The inside at Noni Restaurant is clean and gorgeous which is quite a welcome shock because the outside does not indicate anything of the sort! Situated at the far end of Republic Street in the City’s Capital, the area is more known for the legislative, judiciary and commercial purposes. The place, which was once a residence, has been converted with gusto retaining various memories from its ancient past. Practically all the dining tables are downstairs and one has to take to stairs to reach his/her table as no lift service is available. Chef Jonathan Brincat, also known as “Noni”, is the founder and co-owner of the restaurant with the same name. The menu is very limited with some extras of the day. From the Starters’ section, we ordered two different types of carpaccio, one of Sea Bass and the other of Ox Tongue. The presentation was visually appealing and creative but scarce on the plate. Same thing with our main order of Stonebass for my wife and local Pork for me. Both orders were served with one side bowl of roasted potatoes and one bowl of roasted pumpkin. Only one dessert of Vanilla Cheese Cake which we shared. We both admit that we did not feel stuffed but the experience was satisfying not only to our appetite but our eyes and our emotions also. Can’t say the same thing to my wallet though as the total bill ran up to €120. This one drives me nuts. I rarely eat in so-called fine dining restaurants simply because they offer appalling value for money and the claim that they use much more expensive ingredients simply does not add up. We are sure that many would complain silently that they never asked for the “kid’s menu”. However after criticizing the shady side of the cost system we still insist that if you like food (which is different to liking eating) then it is worth saving up to discover a good quality restaurant at least once. We are sure you will end up with a great and memorable experience. Other extras included in the bill were 2 bottles of water, 2 glasses of prosecco and 2 Espressos. Service was 100% perfect and helpful. Free bread plus olives and a sip of Pumpkin soup were graciously given for free prior to our food.

Although Noni has a Michelin star, the restaurant’s decor and staff are informal so it fits very well with a relaxed vacation vibe. The tables are located in a nice cellar. We opted for the tasting menu (75 euros for 6 courses plus appetizers and petit fours) with the wine pairing (45 euros for 6 glasses). The food was excellent, with the nosotto as the highlight but all dishes were good. 9/10 for the food. The wine was even more surprisingly good. The pairings were all perfect, which rarely happens even at three star restaurants. The staff explained that they taste the dishes with the wines together to decide on the pairings, and that approach really pays off. And apart from a good pairing, they were also great wines. The only thing that could be improved is the serving temperature of the red wines, because ambient temperature in Malta is a bit high for reds. I am only talking a few degrees here. 9/10 for the wine. The service was very good as well. The pace of the menu was just right, and the service was flawless. The service was very friendly (and not too formal at all, as I already mentioned). 9/10 for the service. These are marks that I would usually give to restaurants with two or three Michelin stars, but they are very well deserved. It was unexpected that we were going to Malta, and more unexpected to eat at a Michelin star restaurant. But even more unexpected was how good this was.I would not be surprised if Noni were to get a second star within a couple of years. It is not only good but also outstanding value for money, so don’t miss eating here if you go to Malta.

I appreciate that one visits Noni for an experience above anything else. The decor is exceptional and I would consider it to be perfect for a winter night, the staff to guest ratio is above that of other restaurants but the service is to be desired, if one is looking for an experience, I do not expect a QR code generated menu, non-clothed tables and waiters who cannot memorise an order. Nor do I expect being told that we need to wait 45 minutes for the main course, just after ordering. The tables are cramped together with less than a meter between, we could easily join the conversation next door. The food is good, however not the best I have had, the octopus seems to have shrank in size, judging from the photos, and the prices have been hiked (not sure if it is due to Covid or the Michelin star). This said, the second star in this rating is being given the the petit four, which at least lightened up the evening. overall if you are looking for an experience there are much better restaurants in Valletta and are able to deliver better food levels, atmosphere and service. For sure if you brave this one you will definitely need to find another restaurant soon after to fulfil your hunger. Noni I was disappointed at best

Went there to celebrate my birthday. Booking was made online and there was a place for comments where the purpose of visits was indicated but this was never acknowledged at any time during our visit. Service was good but nothing special. Several tables are crammed into a small place and no privacy is afforded. We enjoyed the amuse bouche and our starters but we were disappointed with our main course which was beef on the rib. The portion size was generous but the quality was not great. We have had much better quality beef in much lower prized restaurants. The bread was very average. I have a ferry sweet tooth but failed to be impressed by the desserts served to the tables next to us so we opted for the cheese board. Sadly this was disappointing too. We very not given any information on the cheese served. Biscuits were very basic which included pieces of what appeared to be ryvita. I write this review having been to a couple of Michelin star restaurants in London. On those occasions we were very pleasantly surprised and impressed with every single aspect. Bread was basket of 4 different types of homemade bread, a birthday card was ready and waiting at the table and a small gift presented as we were leaving, cheese came on a trolley with a huge selection and waiter explained each and every type of cheese on offer and guided us to choose. The accompaniments for cheese were varied. So we were expecting a little more than what we were offered at Noni even when compared to other top restaurants in Malta without a Michelin star. Sorry Noni but this is an honest review. We were most disappointed with our visit as we had much higher expectations than was on offer.

Nice dining room in cellar of an old house. Cold soup (onion, etc.) as amuse bouche was excellent. Tuna slice in first appetizer was too thin, and melon too hard. Potatoes were fantastic!. Stone bass was a little bit too dry, it tasted good though. Pork was absolutely too dry also, while taste was rather good. Dates as pre dessert was very good. Frozen yogurt was okay. Petit fours was petit three, and quite standard, raspberry tasted good. Service was not first class, some wines in wine pairing were not poured before the dish was served. Pace was little too fast.

Eat out a lot and this place is well decorated and should be a great place to eat. The soup as a pre starter was delicious and the starter of chicken and quail terrine was really nice too. However, the main course was completely spoilt by very obviously over salted side dish of potatoes with ‘burnt’ fennel (not sure it was supposed to be burnt!! We’ve now been home for an hour or so after the meal and my lips still feel as though I’ve taken a long swim in the ocean! Really not what you’d expect from this kind of place. We didn’t stay to try any desserts so can’t comment on those. There was a very odd raspberry jelly given with the bill which tasted like a Haribo sweet! Very odd!! The two waiters were really attentive but the female maitre d’ seemed disinterested. Wouldn’t recommend this place based on this experience and won’t go back to give it a second try. Plenty of other lovely places to go in Valletta.

Do not let yourself be lured in by the Michelin award of this restaurant. The food is basic at best. The menu selection is extremely limited, the dishes are very small despite the detailed description and the service is cr*p. The tables are crammed in an underground seating area - a nightmare for a claustrophobic. We were pushed in the corner seating with the toilet door constantly being flung open and closed. The prices seem to have inflated since we last visited last winter, but the food portions have shrunk. There is nothing special about this place and given the limitless choice of restaurants in Valletta, we would definitely be not visiting again.

Space is in a basement, not providing the best environment, much less the safest, given the pandemic situation. We chose Noni to end our holiday in Malta, after fifteen days of fantastic experiences. Unfortunately, it became the worst of them all. We both opted for the octopus and it was not edible because it was like rubber and all the dish had no taste. The employees tried to save the situation, but everything they brought later did not compensate, nor justified the prices we paid in this restaurant. We understand and pay the prices in some places when there is effective quality of ingredients and exceptional confection. It's not the case. I just can’t recommend this.

Amazing experience 🌟 We visited Noni last night, and we opted for the taster menu, my mother-in-law was a vegetarian so we called in before hand to inform this, and they were very helpful and thus created a vegetarian option for her, which we really appreciated. The food experience was definitely worth it, we had around 8 courses (as we had snacks and petit fours) and each dish was unique to its flavour. Me and my Partner wanted to be abit daring with the food thus we wanted to try anything, meaning octopus and rabbit as we don’t normally eat this, however the flavours were nice, altho if you were someone who loved seafood I am sure you guys would love it, for us as we were not completely used to it, the flavours were quite nice, I am not a big fan of raw tuna(sashimi sort of) so that was the least favourite dish I had, however as I mentioned, if you love seafood and sashimi I am sure it would taste amazing for you guys, the rabbit on the other hand, it was surprisingly delicious so I would rate that a 4/5. My favourite dish from the menu was the snack from kicthen as we had small hors d'oeuvres, the gozitan asparagus, the desserts, the local dates and the petit fours! And the rabbit dish itself i quite enjoyed even though i dint usually like rabbit Ambience was very nice and cosy, love the fact that they kept the traditional maltese style design, and the staff were very professional and love the fact that they explained to us each dish we had so 10/10, we were given enough time in between each course to just relax and enjoy, so it wasn’t rushed at all So overall the experience was definitely one I would recommend ❤️

Went there for dinner and ordered from the a la carte menu. To begin with, the waiters were very friendly, helpful and welcoming. The food itself had a variety of textures and flavours which you would not usually think of mixing together, but chef Noni and his team have truly managed to create an experience through the symphony of flavours in the dishes. Noni's creativity truly shows through the food, mixing various flavours together but still managing to capture the authentic taste and flavour of the Maltese dishes. The setting and venue itself is also top quality level - the music being played was very fitting to the atmosphere, and it helped to bring the overall experience to best possible level. Not to mention the wine selection. A great variety to choose from, and the server was very helpful when it came to deciding which wine to order. The only thing that I did not like was the fact that we had to view the menu through a QR code, but this is probably due to COVID restrictions (which the restaurant seems to be adhering to very well, the cleanliness was on point, tables were spaced properly, and staff were wearing face masks) Surely worthy of the star. Will surely visit again.

The driver who dropped us off in Valletta recommended this restaurant and we took a chance and went without a reservation. Even though the restaurant was busy, the staff accommodated us. Our dinners were delicious and the staff were very helpful. An excellent place for dinner.

Finally had the chance to taste the new experience at Noni and it was fantastic from start to end! We had the tasting menu and got to try a little bit of everything. It was an explosion of flavour and culinary genius beyond what you could imagine, right down to the smell, texture and look (it was full of creative surprises). So so creative and well worth its earned star! If you enjoy your usual favourite or like to try new things, you will be satisfied either way. My recommendation is to not skip any course because you will be missing out on A LOT. Each dish cannot be underestimated or taken for granted (the fresh ravioli with tomato water was to die for). The tasting menu was appropriately paced and portioned enough to leave you wanting more between each course and perfectly satiated at the end. Please note I was also respected of my wishes to be served dishes appropriate for pregnancy and felt safe and comfortable all throughout the experience. The staff were super friendly and very helpful to suggest different things without having to ask. My partner also got to enjoy the wine pairing with each dish and was blown away with some of the glasses he tasted and the manager was kind enough to note them down for us. EXCELLENT, excellent, excellent. We really had an amazing time!

The food is fabulous! The combinations that we were served (fish/seafood) all worked beautifully. The staff was very attentive and professional. It is a very casual environment so there are some who would question the “star” however it is earned and deserved. The wine list was rich and had options to suit all budgets. Get a reservation and go since you will not be disappointed.

We ate downstairs and were glad we had booked as it was pretty busy at 8 pm. We both thought the food was excellent especially the Sea Bass special dish. The service was helpful including helping us choose a local white wine. The best meal we had in Valletta, highly recommended.
