A definite must go to place for the best pastizzi and qassatat in the Rabat/Mdina area. It’s very local, very cheap, and very fast. A pastizzi costs about 40 cents and a tea costs 30 cents. You will definitely want to order a few to go for all the walking and bus rides. I liked all 3, chicken, pea and ricotta.

Easily the best pastizzi in Malta, worth the trip to Rabat just for that. It's incredible that you can get such bad pastizzis all around the most touristy areas for like 2-3 euros, then this places sells the real deal, beautifully hot, crispy pastizzi with a creamy mushroom/chicken filling inside... To die for.. Just for 0.50 cents.

When you are in Malta do like Maltese do. When you want to have a bite of the maltese specialty, pastizzi or qassatat, you have to go in 2 spot on the island.
Is-Serkin in rabat is one of these 2.
You just enter the bar order the pastizzi, with ricotta or peas, or the qassatat, with ricotta Peas or inċova, and you get them Straight out from the oven.
They are simply freshly baked and served to clients.
They are crunchy and simply perfect to be eaten on the go or if you arrive in Mdina you can have them with a view of the countryside or the sea.
Definitely worth the ride till Rabat to have one of the best two pastizzi of the island.

This is really authentic local place to get the delicious pastizzi. Our favourite was the chicken which came piping hot from the trays in the oven. They seem to sell out as soon as they are ready which is not surprising.
At only 50 cents each, with a drinks at 50 cents too you can feast here for very little!

We were really looking forward to trying Crystal Palace as we had seen a couple of YouTube vids where they were recommended for pastizzi. As there are so many pastizzerias in Malta, you kinda think, well they have gotta be quite something! When we turned up after visiting Mdina, crowds had died down a bit, so we managed to get a seat indoors. Ordered a chicken and an anchovy pastizzi as well as a ricotta qassata, and a glass of tea. It was really cool seeing them grab the pastries fresh from the oven trays on the side. We arrived at the right time as it wasn't long before a queue of customers formed, some of whom were school children, and others getting bulk buys and frozen stuff to take away. Sadly, the experience didn't live up to our expectations. The pastizzi pastry was crisp as it should be but a bit hard and chewy in others, as if overcooked. They were also alot greasier than others we had tried. The fillings were also disappointing - couldn't really taste the chicken or the anchovy as they seemed to have been padded out with peas or other stuff. The ricotta qassata wasn't bad - it was very dense, well-filled and very filling. We paid €2.80 which was great value. Crystal Palace obviously has its fans and must be doing something right, but the pastizzi were sadly not to our taste which was a huge disappointment after the heightened expectations!

I had in mind that is Serkin was one of the best places to eat a genuine Maltese cheesecake. Went there last Wednesday but was really disappointed. The cheesecakes were literally dripping oil or lard or whatever was in the pastry.
Unfortunately it would have been better if the shop remained the same old 'hanut tal kafe' because with its modernisation and expansion it saw the downfall of its noteworthy cheesecake.
Apart from this people were not following the covid 19 regulations as there were more than 2 people inside the shop and no one told them anything.

Early morning trip to Mdina. Was walking and noticed this place was busy around 9am. Popped in and ordered a pea pastizzi, qaghaq ta’ l-ghasel, fresh milk Maltese tea and coffee for €2.90!!! Was definitely worth it.

We sampled the pastizzi here while walking around Rabat. They were just amazing. We had one filled with cheese and peas and some sort of meat and another with cheeses. It is worth seeking this place out (it is not far from St. Paul's catacombs). You can get them to take away or eat at the place. There is outdoor seating there.

“We had a fantastic experience at this bakery! The products were not only incredibly affordable but also exceptionally delicious. We tried a variety of pastizzi including the chicken, cheese-filled, and ones with anchovies. Each bite was a burst of flavor, and the freshness of the ingredients really shone through. The combination of affordability and great taste makes this bakery a must-visit. We’ll definitely be returning for more!”

Went on a recomnendation. Unbelievably cheap. Lovely pastizzi- we tried the chicken filling and the ricotta cheese filing. Pastries were straight out of the oven, very hot and flaky. Yum. Seating in and outside, and plenty of shade. Great snack whilst waiting for the bus.

You must stop here for your pastizzi fix! 50 cents each; you can afford to indulge in many of these delightful morsels! Pea, cheese and chicken. All fresh out the oven. There is seating inside and outside. There is also a great ice cream place next door too.

Basic local bar selling fresh from the oven pastizzi and qassatat (peas, ricotta, chicken or anchovies fillings). Delicious and cheap. Couple of teas and cisk beers. Perfect snack break. Continuous stream of locals and tourists.

Some tasty flakey pastry parcels filled with ricotta, chicken, peas, or anchovies. Cold drinks available and a gelato shop next door. Best pastizzi on the Island. Cheaper than chips.

We went here for Maltese Ftira (Tuna roll) and a drink. It is a local institution by the look of it - we liked being amongst the locals. The prices are cheap. We visited during the day and at night (it was the only bar open close to 12pm). An old fashioned and genuine place.

Heard about this place and couldn't wait to try it out. Boy, it was and is amazing. Pastizzi with cheese and peas are awesome but for me qassatat with cheese or anchovies is the real deal. It's so good and unbelievably tasty. My kid loves the cheese pastizzi.
