A mid-week evening visit with friends

Went for a meal with friends. Parking not a problem. Food was great. Several starters available, even to share. For mains the meat was cooked as desired, everyone was happy with what we got. Varied menu with lots of meat selections and some other types of food. Food was served at the right moment too. Great desserts and coffee followed. Service was great, however the music was a bit too loud.

rushed to order as kitchen closes

great food but mid week kitchen closes at 9.30pm ! this country really needs to act all modern not just say it, i expect kitchen to stay open atg least till 11 on a weekday and 12 on the weekend....what is it WW2 days ???

The noise levels ruined it

Saturday evening, We just couldnt have a normal comversation because of the music levels and bad acoustics. There was nothing to dampen sounds (curtains, plants, carpet), probably made worse by the huge blackboard and it was just awful. My corn on the cob was still frozen and even the replacement was cold. The meat was excellent, nice crusty Maltese bread.

Disappointing

A disappointing experience from the moment we stepped inside the restaurant until we asked for our bill to pay, in my opinion caused by insufficient staff members unable to cope with the number of guests on a busy Saturday evening. The service was rushed and the waiting staff were absolutely not friendly at all. It all started with the order of our shared starter which included sausages. I asked whether the sausages were spicy and the waitress replied: "Yes, a little bit!" I told the waitress that I could not eat spicy food, so she promised to check with the kitchen and let me know, but she never came back with an answer! Eventually the starter was served to us and the sausages were not spicy at all. Then the main course followed. My daughter and I ordered two ribeye steaks. My ordered steak was supposed to be cooked medium but instead the waiter received a medium-well steak, while my daughter's steak was medium instead of the medium-well steak she ordered. Unfortunately, we did not realise immediately that we were served the wrong steaks, and none of the staff came to check whether we were satisfied with the food. When we did manage to show our dissatisfaction, no apology was offered but just "it was a mistake!" We enjoyed the desserts and I must say that the selection was quite extensive here. I asked for the bill but yet again we had to get up ourselves to ask for the bill at the bar. Disappointing!

What ever happened to Chukkas ability to cook amazing steaks and food?

Chukkas has been the family go to restaurant for many years now and was always much looked forward to highlight of a visit to Malta to visit family. So we were gutted when we visited on the evening of Thursday 15th September. Pretty much all ordered a steak dish and everyone got steak that was not cooked to their liking. Even the roast potatoes and veg side dishes were poorly cooked and sub standard. Had it not been so long in arriving, (we waited over an hour) we’d have sent it all back! In the interest of balance, the one party member who had salmon said it was excellent. Giving them the benefit of the doubt and believing it to be a one off bad night, we went ahead with a second booking we had made on Sunday 18th September, this time a lunchtime booking. We had booked to sit outside as we had a toddler with us. When we arrived we were told the garden was closed! We sat inside and ordered our food, it was as disappointing as the previous time. Sorry to say that I e won’t be rushing back! Having spent more than €650 across the two visits, this was not money well spent. Clearly someone has forgotten how to cook steak: something Chukkas always used to excel at!

An overrated place which does not deserve title " best stealhouse"

We tried Chukkas Mosta based on the reward "best steak house" in Malta. Well frankly I would rate it 2/10. We arrived there at 1400, ordered immediately. At 1445 food had not been served, we realized there was a mix up the order so they offered a free bottle of wine which I did not drink of course as I was driving. Anyhow the food arrived after some time ... steak from medium rare to well done (32 euro). For a steakhouse I DO NOT expect this mistake. The manager did offer to change it but I refused. I did not have all day at it was already past 3.15pm. In addition order was incomplete, no sauce and sides. They ran out and did not even bother telling us. I paid my 100 euro bill and WILL not recommend this place , in fact they do not deserve the title of best steak house. People are overrating this place.

Would like to praise the owner, management and staff especially a particular foreign waiter, unfortunately did not ask for her name. Although they had a problem with electricty, the service and food was still impeccable and apologized over and over. They made sure that our evening was still great. Will definetly visit again.

Good choice of starters and also of meat since they also offer uncommon cuts. The meat was cooked to perfection. I have to mention the service: precise, attentive and extremely polite and nice (we had an infant with us and she was spoilt by the staff). Highly recommended. Only unpleasant thing: they charge for side dishes - definitely NOT necessary. The customer sees it as a way to make some (way too easy) extra bucks

Impeccable service, Divine food, good value for money, nice atmosphere, and most of all one of the waiters even though he is not Maltese he was speaking to us in Maltese. Well Done. However, the other waiters, can speak very good English so communication was quite easy. Well Done to all. Our favourate restauarant to celeberate our speacial occasions. Will keep on visiting for sure. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

Disappointing night

Very sad experience, the place turns into a nightclub apparently and unfortunately we did not know this. Very loud music, unable to even talk properly. Waiters had 0 interest- rushing to the table and leaving before everyone had even given the order (happened twice). To top off ending the night on a bad not, i went to the bar to get the bill as waiter was obviously nowhere in site, gave it to me and he asked the barman to go offer a drink on the house to our table as it was one of the persons' bday which was great, sadly we waited around 20minutes he never came. Meat was good and well cooked however one of the few places to arrogantly charge you extra for a side of veg or potatoes to your steak. Surely never visiting again.

The usual Chukka's meat in a different location

If you are used to the restaurant at Marsa racetrack in here Mosta you will find a better ambience as the table are set into a garden at a great distance so anyone could not be bothered by the other guests. The offer is as good as the one in Marsa with the meat that is the central character of the plot. We went for the appetisers to share which comprises bruschetta, fried cheese and two types of sausages, one sweet and the other one spicy. Then we went for the meat sizzlers cooked on the rare side and the meat just melted in your mouth. Definitely worth the price and for the location in the countryside of Malta. Reservation strongly advised and recommended.

An excellent restaurant

Chukkas at Mosta is a relatively recent offshoot of its parent at Marsa. On my recent first visit with 2 friends, we thoroughly enjoyed delicious calamari and superb steaks with a reasonably-priced bottle of Maltese wine. These were first-class, as also was the service in all respects. The restaurant is a little way from the centre of Mosta and it was easy to park close to it. With a bar on the way in, it has a spacious room for diners, with one part separated; and the furnishings are adequate. We arrived a little before 8pm, which is early by Maltese standards, but despite our going on a Tuesday, it was almost full by the time we left. I strongly recommend this Restaurant and suggest booking in advance, as it has become very popular, though not inexpensive.

Best steak !!

10/10 - delicious steak! The steak was tender and cooked to perfection. The mash, roasted vegetables and the amazing peppercorn sauce topped off the whole meal. Service was great and staff were friendly and kind. The icing on the cake is the view! One small con - hard to get to.

We really liked the place. Food was delicious and the service was fantastic! We had a small issue with one of the plates and it was dealt with professionally, and in a really short time even though it was a busy Sunday lunch :) We will definitely visit again!

A big shout WELLDONE to owner, management, and staff at this restaurant, especially one foreign lady (blonde hair) that we did not manage to get her name that have managed to turn a huge problem they had into a great evening like nothing has happened, excellent food and service always with a smile. WELL DONE, especially being the first time there. See you very soon 🙏
