We came after the lunch specials, and ordered a la carte from the menu. But there were so many dishes to try that had been on my "to-eat" list, that we got carried away. Luckily our server, helped us out, and in some cases brought smaller versions of the plate we ordered (and at a reduced price). The local sausage that came with the bigilla was terrific. And the avocado salad was not only tasty, but huge, and beautifully presented. But our favorite was the hobz biz-zejt, it's essence being a flaked tuna sandwich with no mayo. It was too much food, and we had to take the rabbit stew home with us - it was quite tasty the next day.

Frankly, I don't know how they did it. Brilliant buffet food, a great wine/drinks package, entertainment and service with warmth to match. Value for money par-excellence too! I have been here before and always been impressed, and this time the buffet food and huge choice was a similar Maltese sensational. I stuck to soup, fish, cheese and loads of wine. My wife tucked into about everything (sorry about that Ta Marija!), while father in law, aged 92, enjoyed a similar menu, but with oodles of meat and desserts too. House wine is excellent too. I say that I don't know how they did it. We arrived at around 12.15am and within seconds were at our table. Already getting busy, this large...ish restaurant was heaving a few minutes later. Every member of staff knew what to do, how to deal with arrivals, those at tables and those who had enjoyed their lunches preparing to leave. No detail was missed, including most importantly the spacing of tables and their occupants on what was a massive luncheon occasion in Malta. Bear in mind too that the team were all there until 3am in the morning following New Years Eve. Yes, the food was fantastic; probably the best buffet food we have ever eaten. The venue is delightful and I just hope there will be room for us again next year.....but will certainly be back well before then! Many thanks and a happy 2020 to you all at Ta Marija.

Dear Martin What a great pleasure it was to host you and your family again, especially your dear father in law at the admirable age of 92 years enjoying the beauty of life, family and a healthy lunch on a special occasion like it was on New Year's Day. I am blessed to have a great team of dedicated staff, who we call part of our family. They are proud of their efforts be it our kitchen chef team who prepared the wide array of Maltese food from the early hours in the morning, and our service team who deliver with warmth and pride service to all our dear clientele. May 2020 bring you and your family great health and cherished memories in great company. We very much look forward to hosting you again in the future. Warm regards Ben & the Ta' Marija team

We pre booked a table at Ta'Marija restaurant on our holiday and can only say this was well worth it. We were celebrating (quietly) our 25th wedding anniversary and had a wonderful time. All the staff were exceptionally kind and considerate, especially as my wife is a Celiac, there knowledge far out weighed our expectations and they went out of their way to make sure we were satisfied, even going as far as supplying non menu items. We feel we've made some great friends on our visit who we will remember for their kind hospitality and for the traditional dancing. Leonie the manager who looks 100% Maltese (but is he... is the question) and made sure everything was perfect from the setting out of the cutlery to the serving of some of the most delicious foods we've eaten. Also Ben the owner who after numerous short conversations ended the night with song that reminded him of this mother..... he was sensational. WHAT A NIGHT to remember. Ta'Marija is on the top of our list when we return to Malta and comes with a super hire recommendation. Dean Borg

After visiting the Mosta Dome we went to Ta'Marija. It had great reviews and was only a few blocks from the dome.It appeared popular so we made a reservation. We arrived at 1 PM and found the restaurant had only two tables occupied. Our waiter, Leoni, was very pleasant and seated us promptly. We ordered several starter dishes to sample the Maltese cuisine. The smoked horse meat reminded us of ceviche. The mushrooms in a cream sauce were great! The snails were very simply done with the actual flavor of the snails in full effect. The rabbit stomach sliders were disappointing. It appeared a few stomachs were chopped up to spread them around on a large bun to disguise the paucity of meat. The rabbit livers were over-cooked to chewiness. The bragioli were tasty with a Maltese sausage sauce. Then we ordered the seafood platters that came with razor and littleneck clams, mussels, prawns, and baby lobster. This was a total fail! Everything was overcooked to toughness. The prawns' shells had been reduced to crepe paper with the heads empty of any of the expected goodness. We ate politely. After the meal we had to pay with cash as the internet had broken. We were VERY surprised that a restaurant of its reputation and reviews would allow such a dish to even leave the kitchen let alone be presented to a customer. When mentioned to Leoni, he assured us it would be brought to the attention of the management. We left wondering if that would actually happen.

Visited Ta Marija once again a few weeks ago with my mum and auntie whilst on a short welcome break from the UK. Times are very different currently but this didn’t stop us having a fantastic meal served up by our very attentive waiter for the evening, Leone. Tables were spaced out far enough so as not to be on top of others, hand sanitizer when you entered and waiting staff masked appropriately. Menu was plentiful and food was fresh and full of flavour. Unfortunately we had to quarantine when we returned home, but I cannot wait for restrictions to ease so that I can book another lovely holiday on the Maltese Islands, my second home 💕💕

We visit Ta'Marija for one of its folklore nights, in december. It is an old family restaurants, passed from generations to generations, and you could have feel the family vibe. The restaurant manager is greeting everyone in a nice and personal way. There were also two musicians walking by tables and play a song of your choice, which was nice. On food: we tried the rabbit, which was a bit dry and not really impressive. The show was okish / nice, a bit shorter than I expected, But we had so much fun, especially after the show when they opened up the floor for a joint dance. In general, it was a fun evening .. Not for food, but mainly the vibe.

Ok, so I have been here before and have never been disappointed. This time, the excuse was for my father-in-law's 93rd birthday, and i did wonder how Ta Marija had coped with reopening after enforced closure a few months ago owing to Covid-19. It was obvious straight away to our party of three that apart from the mandatory face masks worn by staff and the reduction in tables to maintain social distancing that everything was up to the normal, wonderful standards that we have become accustomed to. Excellent appetisers, delicious soup and calamari starters, followed by two brilliant swordfish mains plus a bragioli dish that thrilled our elderly guest made the evening complete. However, the warmth of welcome and the superb service took our evening to even loftier heights. Benny, you are a tremendous restaurateur and I am so pleased that you are back with the right sort of bang. I cannot thank you enough for what was a very special evening for us all. I would add that you had two wonderful members of the team serving us that night, namely Salman and Netania, and our sincere thanks go to them both as well. As ever, Ta Marija is a truly great dining experience.

Dearest Maria How wonderful it is to have the pleasure to host you again, especially your smiling father in law with his interesting stories and jokes ! Covid is not the best scenario for anyone, however we are so glad that we can still entertain our loyal guests with our warm hospitality and amazing Maltese food. Looking forward to your next visit. After a busy day of filming, our crew decided to go to ta Maria Restaurant and it turned to be such an amazing evening. We got some Maltese traditional starters and we were served by an amazing and very professional waiter - Leone (He had an amazing style in both looks and profession, very friendly and very good energy!) we ordered the food after some amazing local wine and I can say that I really enjoyed it! I had some Ravioli and at first I thought I won’t be full.. but it’s amazing how good they were and how filling! I highly recommend this restaurant as it has a lot of Maltese traditional food, photos and the atmosphere is amazing! Keep it up everyone! ❤️

Firstly the best thing about thos restaurant is the hospitality. Belinda and Ruth were managing it own their own and were doing an excellent job. Nothing was too much of a problem. They went well above and beyond of their normal duties to accommodate us - even brought out a balloon for our 2 year old. They are great assets to the restaurant. It was lovely to see picture of Maria around the place as it elevates it from just a restaurant to being the legacy of a person who clearly loved Maltese cuisine. The food was delicious. We had the snails, fried ravioli, pasta with Maltese sausage, blue cheese ravioli and bragioli. Nothing to fault there and delicious. All 3 of us had the ta Marija Trifle because the menu really sells it. We were however really disappointed (probably heightened by the fact that this dessert carries Maria's name with it). The chocolate and vanilla custard had all melted and disintegrated the sponge (I presume, as I could not detect any soild sponge/biscuit) leaving a soupy texture behing with solid ice crystals in it, then topped with whipped cream. It will certainly not be something I'll order again. Having said that, given the very good main courses and excellent hospitality I would consider visiting again.

we booked our Sunday lunch, and I can say that it was an amazing experience. We were welcomed with such hospitality, as we were given our table. The menu is very vast and caters especially typical maltese dishes. Complimentary antipasto was served. It was delicious. We chose 2 starters to share, the snails, and the Maltese sausages with caramelised onions. Main courses we had the tagliata (cooked perfectly) and rabbit. Oven baked potatoes was served as a side dish. As a dessert we had dates and their special ice cream. The food was just wonderful. But the service and ambience were just perfect. We felt super safe at this restaurant because they were really careful and attentive to the restrictions in place at the moment. Will definitely visit again.

Well given the covid situation we needed to stay at home and ordered a traditional maltese meal to enjoy with some senior family members. It was honestly delicious, everything was cooked perfectly and delivered in containers with extra care not to ruin any food. My horsemeat was out of this world. Prices are also very reasonable given the kind and amount of food.

Having a guest from Japan for the Carnival I wanted to show her the best of Malta. Mislead by the ads of Ta'Maria for the folklore dinner show I thought it should be great. Not at all. When I booked the table I kindly asked at what time the show starts. After telling me at 8 pm, I booked a table for 7.30. Actually there was NO folklore show at 8. Still waiting apologies for that lie from Ta'Maria. Two men playing mandolins toured the tables from 8 pm to 10 pm presenting evergreen songs as Maltese. From 10 pm to 10:15 there was something which hardly could be defined as folklore show. As for food, we ordered for main course traditional Maltese rabbit, octopus and calamari and all were over salted, unsavory and distasteful. Even they did'n have a sommelier to present the selection of wines.Huge disappointment and waste of time. Never again.

It being several weeks since we ate here before, the occasion of my wife’s birthday gave us the perfect excuse to return with her father, nearly 94, for Sunday lunch. As ever, it did not disappoint, and quite the reverse, in fact. Bean and pasta soup for father in law plus aliotta for the married couple, precede by nibbles, were followed by bragioli for him, fillet of sea bass for birthday lady, and, as a real treat lampuka, brilliantly roasted for me. All were accompanied by perfectly cooked vegetables. A true feast, delicious in every sense, with excellent wine to accompany it all. Desserts were available, but with bloated stomachs at the end, they nibbled away at a light pastry dish while I did my best to drink my way through a cognac or two. Just why I rate this restaurant so highly is easy to explain. First of all its Maltese food is terrific, served in substantial quantities and with professionalism. But in addition, the serving staff here are as warm as it comes. Leone has been here for yonks and is always the perfect gentleman, whose charm rubs off on all the rest. Belinda has been here not quite so long, but what a find she is. Her service is second to none while her welcome is a revelation and, despite being busy, she always seems to have so much time dedicated to making customers happy. The final part of this great team serving us on the day was young Ruth, a student who provided the same level of competence, professionalism and style, coupled with charm, boundless energy and attention to detail. She seems destined to go far. We were all truly impressed, and the sense of happiness among all three and the pride of working at Ta Marija was much in evidence. Benny, the proprietor, had an engagement similar to my own that day, but deserves so much credit for being able to deliver such excellence time after time. Thank you Ta Marija for another truly great occasion.

We took part in the traditional folklore evening which they hold on Fridays. This was a fun experience including pick up from your accommodation, a tasting menu of traditional Maltese cuisine, free flowing wine and water, and the dancing show. The service was attentive, and the owner will come around personally to ensure everything is ok. The food was nice, clearly an excellent example of traditional Maltese dishes. The fish stew contained more bones than fish, but the rabbit stew was great. The dancing was fun and interesting to watch many dances from the culture. A fun night for anyone wanting to go back in time and gain a better insight into traditional Maltese culture.

We had booked on the Folklore evening with the all inclusive package. Unfortunately the event was cancelled due to an electrical fault at the restaurant which also meant we weren’t informed of the cancellation so got a taxi there. I messaged the restaurant and they were so apologetic and explained why we got missed when they were informing patrons of the cancellation. They also reimbursed us for our taxi cost which was so incredibly generous and shows how much they value their restaurant and their patrons. I’d fully recommend this restaurant for that alone even if I wasn’t able to go during my time in Malta.
