All reviews octopus fries salad polpo white wine worth a trip whale museum place to eat quick service recommend this restaurant bolo do caco lapas madeira portions locals island preto
A very simple typical Portuguese restaurant, the server very nice and good worker. We order Lapas, "black"octopus and a "bolo do caco" swordfish.
The Lapas were so good that we order a second time.
A must go place to go eat.
at harbour cancial if you do a excursion to the end of madeira with its amazing landscape. by the way, the weather can be amazing too, we had in 1/2h all waters possible. so we came back to this restaurant we found some years ago....same enjoyable time and nice inexpensive food. so far as like at our first visit. now with big choice of wine, much more as many restaurants in Funchal(for that an extra point)! Inch top labels. i recommend a vino verde like murals de moncao, the bottle for 11€(!) a nice fresh crisp white wine and typical for Portugal fits perfect with the fried fish dishes.
so see you next time with pleasureMore
Perfect. Great service, great recommendation on food from The staff. The price is more than reasonable and The food was The best we had during our visit. Try The tuna with fried corn porridge, grilled musells. Outstanding.
Despite some negative reviews here I must say that I have been in this place for two times, and I was never disappointed. My standards are not too high, but I was positively impressed, both by the food and by the staff. I shared almost...all of the plates on the menu with my friend, and I wouldn't know what to recommend: you should try everything!More
Service was good. The quality of food was bad, but we might have taken the bad parts of the menu. Tuna was dry and bad, cod was cold, tasteless, and fried in bad oil. French fries were similar to frozen fries. I am unsure why...other reviews are good, so maybe restaurant had a bad day, and mussels taken by others looked good.More
A great lunch spot in the South East of the island. Good, friendly, affordable and I'm told by locals, very reliable. Very quick service. Chips come with most dishes which was a bit much... I think we should have asked for chips on one of...our sharing dishes to be replaced by salad. Portions generous so fine to share a couple of plates between two.More
Service really bad. We waited more than 1,5 hours for the food. The picadinho polvo preto, lapas nas mexilhões was really nice. The pregos and picadinho de lulas was not good at all!!! I would not recommend this restaurant. In the area there are much...better restaurants!More

Hello Paula,
We´ll answer to your comments but almost for sure that this is not a real review. Nonetheless here goes:
It´s impossible for someone wait 1.5h for the food even being the busiest day of the year. On the busiest day people can wait...More
After a visit to the whale museum, we were looking for a place to have a lunch, and Muralhas was well ranked by another search engine, so we gave it a try. Grilled mussels were really tasty, but the grilled octopus was simply superb, so...tender and full of flavor! Well worth a trip!More

Great food, and great staff! What else could we ask for?
The mexilhões and camarão à muralhas are simply the best!
The staff is so so great that they could notice we wanted to change to a different table without us asking to!
It's a...must visit!More

We went to madeira, and Muralhas was advised by a local. We went there 2 times and both were amazing! The food is tasty and the staff so friendly! Best “mexilhões” i ever tasted!

Four of us went during the pandemic. The place for really fresh and tasty Lapas but everything else we ordered was mediocre. French fries were cooked from frozen, food was just ok. Not bad but not great either. Good service and yes it was cheap....The home made Passion Fruit dessert (only two left) was very good.More

Muscles, snails, octopus, you name it. Everything is fresh and tastes like fresh. The location itself is very simple and you don’t have a view to the sea, although the sea is just 20 m away. But the food is just amazing and the price...value ratio is just excellent.More

Delicious seafood on a budget
This restaurant doesn’t look like much, but we had the best seafood - would highly recommend for a lunch visit. The limpits were our favourite!

We tried variety of seafood on our 2 visits in this place and everything was really great, especially espada. Also, the portions were really big. What's even more fantastic: this place has the best value for money ratio in Madeira in our opinion. If we...stayed little bit closer to Canical we'd eat there almost every Day!More
