Our lunch at Solar do Farelo was absolutely delicious today. We decided to try after a recommendation from friends. Both the white and red white dispensed from barrels was quite good. We started with olives, bread, garlic prawns, melted garlic cheese, water, red and white wine, followed with Duck a L'orange, and Beef Cheeks and then had lemon sorbet champagne... More

We have been to Solar fo Farelo on a number of occasions for lunch. On the first, we hadn't booked and it was full. However, the owner, Fernando (great guy) managed to fit us in. Definitely, recommend you book. Although a large establishment, it is very popular. This is a restaurant with a difference. There is a basic price of... More

This is a regular eating spot but since the last time Fernandez has introduced a 2.50 euro a head for as much wine as you can drink. May I say this is still good value as the wind is pretty decent. The food is always top notch and Fernandez himself controls the restaurant superbly. It Is always busy and you... More

This is a must! Everything about it was great. The scenery, the interesting decor full of antiques for sale, the ample servings and excellent selection of traditional and authentic foods, the giant casks of wine from which you serve yourself all the wine you want, the friendly service - it was all above expectations. The place looks like nothing special... More

A choice of at least 10 main courses on the blackboard which is brought to your table, by quietly capable staff. You need to book in advance. Mainly European diners.

Well worth a visit, however book before to avoid disappointment. Amazing selection of traditional Portuguese cuisine, wine from the barrel surrounded by local antiques and produce. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Ideal for a long lazy lunch.....not ideal if you are in a hurry.

We booked the table for six that day and travelled 45 minutes based on a recommendation for this restaurant. It was worth it! The owner makes his own wine and it makes my mum and dad sing and dance! Everyone there is very kind. We ate prawns and venison and pavlova. It was delicious.

The service was good considering how full the restaurant was. The food was very tasty from a varied menu including items that you would rarely see in a British restaurant. Worth trying the wild boar stew and the Cataplana. Wine was serve yourself from large Barrels. The atmosphere in the restaurant was noisy and enjoyable probably helped by the wine.... More

Sunday lunch, did not book, mistake, very busy, well over 100 people in. Owner said wait 10 mins I will fit you in. 5 mins later sat down. Chalk board menu but must have been 12 choices. Very nice meal, cover, main, sweet and coffee, €14-50, plus €2-50 if you wanted wine which was self service from large barrels either... More
