Our small group enjoyed a very nice dinner of tradional Icelandic cuisine, but with a modern touch. The food was very tasty, good-sized portions and flavourful. The service was friendly and efficient, and the tradional aspect of some dishes was explained to us while we explored the menu. The restaurant is relaxed, comfortable and friendly.

Our hotel recommended Matur Og Drykkur for dinner in Reykjavik because 'that is where the locals go.' I have posted a picture of the Ling special that evening prepared by Chef Richard Gerwain. The picture does not do justice nor can it reflect the sensational flavors of this entree. We have eaten many times at Le Bernardin in NYC and, in my opinion, Chef Gerwain's talent is on par with Chef Eric Ripert on this dish. Dinner was sensational. The ambience, service, and fresh cuisine from beginning to end was amazing.

My wife and I visited Matur Og Drykkur for dinner on a recent trip to Reykjavik. This is one of those places that you need to make a reservation at least a month in advance to guarantee a seat. During our visit the restaurant was only offering their Six Course Menu. The meal started with complimentary Cumin Bread that was soft, savory and paired with flavorful fennel butter. The first course was a Platter with homemade cheese, crisp crackers, tender cured lamb topped with tangy pickled radish slices, and melt in you mouth salmon which sat on a crisp cucumber. The Platter was a five star appetizer. The second course was the Tempura Seaweed. This was phenomenal and unlike anything I have tried before. The seaweed was briny and juicy and covered in a perfectly crisp tempura. The third course was my favorite of the night: Salmon Soup. Super flavorful milky broth was filled with tender salmon, juicy trout roe, sweet dried raisins, and juicy apple. The fourth course was the Icelandic Lamb. The dish was good but I was a little disappointed because it did not share the same amount of creativity and flavor as the preceding dishes. I also ended up having more flavorful lamb on multiple occasions through the course of my Iceland trip. However, the lamb was juicy, gamey, and topped with a red wine glaze and salt. Savory roasted potatoes and soft sauerkraut were paired with the meat. The last two courses were desserts: Goat Cheese Shaved Ice and Rhubarb Skyr. The shaved ice was paired with creamy goat cheese and candid barely. The skyr had a nice rhubarb flavor and was topped with crisp oats. Overall, we had a nice dinner with some exceptional dishes.

I had read really good things about this restaurant and I was excited to visit. When we arrived my first impression was that the place was quite cool, stripped back and low key - in a good way. Service was good and the drinks list was both interesting and full of variety. The food sounded great as well and we tried a handful of different plates, all of which were a bit underwhelming in all honesty. Reykjavik is full of really good restaurants and in my opinion this one needs to work much harder on the quality of the food, as it is not cheap here and in fact we had lower cost meals elsewhere which were far superior. Perhaps we chose badly or were unlucky on the night we arrived? In any case I wouldn't go back.

I have eaten at many Icelandic fine dining restaurants and this one just didn't do it for us. The food was ok, drinks under par, service was extremely slow and not attentive ...(they forgot to give us the restaurant intro explaining that it was a tasting menu and that we choose fish or lamb, and they forgot to ask us if we wanted to order drinks) It was all just ok because we have had these dishes at many other restaurants, using the same flavors and preparations, nothing really stood out as being unique, different or great. Sadly the lamb was mostly fat and the fish was overcooked. The 2 desserts were the best of the meal but again the same preparation as other restaurants like FossHotel, for example. Finally, the price tag was WAY to pricy for the total experience, and the food and drinks quality. The ambience was nice but again not worth the price tag of the meal. Sadly it felt like a rip off when we left the restaurant.

Cozy restaurant serving food cooked to perfection with an outstanding appearance - simply looking extremely appetizing. Allegedly the restaurant uses old Icelandic traditional recipes, this is a picture that I cannot recognize at all - on the contrary food (set menu / chef's choice) is very modern and experimental. Service was a bit messy; we were served by at least 4 different persons with VERY different skills. Many different waiters could be OK to make the principal of serving the same at the same time work, but if M&D have ambitions to replace Michelin Plate with Bib Gourmand or a Michelin star, they seriously have to step up on staff - they are certainly not all professionals! Even for Iceland prices are in the high end.

I had the 6-course vegan set menu. The portions were so small that even a 12 years old would not be full. The barley was still undercooked the second time when it was brought to me after complaining that it was far too hard to chew it. The 2 tiny thin layer of aubergine on top of the barley was more a decoration than actually having some vegetables. The main course didn’t consist of vegetables apart from some pickled onions. The dishes were nicely presented but the portions were nothing more than a joke. The service was super but the food didn’t satisfy a hungry vegan who had to go home to have a proper meal afterwords. The cook had no idea what veganism is about.

This place was cosy and ambient with an air of fine dining. Incredibly professional and helpful staff greeted us and offered prompt service. My boyfriend and I chose the seafood tasting menu, as it boasted local Arctic char and their signature of halibut soup. All ingredients fresh and flavourful, but the halibut soup really stuck out as it’s just so unusual, with flavours of fruit and dill. After the fourth course, we couldn’t go onto dessert as we were so full! We were given a discount, which we didn’t expect. The chef came out to chat with us at the end which was a nice personal touch. Would 100 percent recommend for the top notch service and the delicious halibut soup!

When we arrived, nobody welcome us at the entrance of the restaurant and took care about our jacket. We took the 5 dishes + wine pairing for 150 euro per person. Price is reasonable for a Michelin restaurant but at the end it is not worst. Our waitress with a piercing was not really friendly and was serving the dishes really fast without taking care of if we need a break or something. I asked for break to smoke and she was a bit upset. Every time she brings a dish to our table we can really feel on her face that it was definitely not a good day for her... It might happen but when you are Michelin rewarded, the service is as important as the quality of the dishes. Regarding the food and the wine pairing, it fits! We were surprised by the specialties and really enjoyed it.

The restaurant is located a little bit of a distance from the city centre but as Reykjavik is quite small is a relatively short walk. The entrance is facing way from the direction most would be walking from. The interior is a modern style but the decor has a retro slant. The plates are a random selection of nostalgia, the type of designs that your grandmother would have had! It is a set tasting menu which is on a large blackboard on the wall. You really don’t need it as you get what you get! The only choice is for the “main course “ between lamb or salt cod. This is good as many people are not fans of lamb as is the case with my other half. This course is quite substantial for a six course tasting menu. We also went with the wine pairings. Overall the meal was very good, well prepared, well presented and plenty of flavour. Though there was no real wow factor to any of the dishes. The food was €85 each and the wine pairing was €58 which was not expensive for a Michelin restaurant and definitely not Reykjavik expensive. Recommended

Firstly I would say that the waiting staff were great but the food simply was not. The only option was the 6 course tasting menu which we would have probably chosen anyway. I am not going to critique every course but none of them were good enough to warrant the price. A couple of courses were bland, the main course we chose lamb which was slightly under cooked so leaving the fat not nice and was served with a few dry roast potatoes! I also had the ‘beverage pairing’ which consisted of a glass of fizz, a small beer, a glass of red and two random small liqueurs. The cost was over £100 per head. There is simply no comparison between this place and Apotek where we ate a couple of nights ago and the food was superb. I rarely write restaurant reviews but felt compelled given how far off the mark this place was tonight

It’s a taster menu restaurant which you can pair with a drinks menu. (You can email ahead to ask for the current one). My daughter and I loved the variety. Started with a type of schnapps with the pickled herring tartare and onion bread, right through to malt beer to go with lamb croquette and Chablis with the pork and sugar potatoes. The food is really interesting and the staff take time to explain everything. We had a lovely evening and I’m shocked at some of the negative reviews. It’s not cheap (but nothing is in Reykjavik) but we felt it was well worth the money for a taste of Icelandic food in a really stylish and relaxed restaurant. There were lots of local people in too which is always a good sign.

Our group had the most amazing experience at Matur Og Drykkur. Our party of five experienced the Land or Sea Tasting menu and each dish was as beautiful as it was delicious. And the wine pairing was very well done. The service was also friendly and spot on.

This restaurant is named for the woman to create the first Icelandic recipe book. They take traditional food and put a modern twist on it. The cocktails are amazing - definitely try one and the food was delicious.

It’s hard to find a place to please both me and my pre-teen daughter. This restaurant hit the spot! The bacalao was tender and flavorful. My daughter loved the lamb and potatoes. Dessert was perfectly paired with a locally made digestif. One of the best meals I’ve had in a long time, with a simple, clean atmosphere and friendly service.
