About
Welcome to Jómfrúin, the home of Danish smørrebrød in Iceland. It all began in 1888 with Oscars Davidsen’s highly praised smørrebrød restaurant in Copenhagen. Today, in Reykjavík, "Jómfrúin" stands for the best in Danish smørrebrød. An unbroken tradition of quality and Danish culinary culture for the past 100 years. Essentially an open-faced sandwich usually featuring rye sourdough bread, smørrebrød presents different combinations of seafood, meat, vegetables and condiments, and is typically enjoyed with a cold local beer and snaps (aquavit). Enjoy!

Dinner at Jomfruin was our least pleasant experience during a week of restaurant meals in Reykjavik. We were seated by a man with flat affect - not the least bit welcoming, and I felt like we were an imposition. Another man initially waited on us,...seeming to lose interest when I said we weren’t ordering alcoholic drinks, though he did return to take our food order. When the food arrived, I was served the wrong dish. A third waiter responded when I got his attention, and he actually somewhat redeemed the experience when he appeared genuinely apologetic; he soon brought me the meal I had ordered. The roasted potatoes dish I had was mediocre - the bread it was served on was dry. Overall, wouldn’t recommend Jomfruin to anyone.More

I work as a food guide in Iceland, I am a local, Iceland has a long and complicated history with Denmark. But this place….. is the best in Iceland. Its perfect in every single way, great food, drinks and energy. The vibes here are unmatched,...its for everybody, you feel like home but its also festive. If you have a bad day, then go to Jómfrúin, then your day is perfect. It is the best Iceland has to offer, my heart goes to this place. Breakfast, lunch and dinner juice.More

BEWARE OF SCAMS! We had beers there before our flight in September. They added extra zeros’ and my friend wasn’t paying attention. $361 for three beers. Pretended they could not refund, gave an email for communication but manager stopped communicating with us. Obviously they are...scamming tourists hoping we leave the country before we notice!!! Attend with caution.More

We just eaten at this restaurant in the Reykjavík airport. The atmosphere, the quality of the food, and especially the server could not have been more pleasing. We recommended it highly.

We came for couple of drinks and dinner. I asked the waitor for 4 Gammel dansk schnaps and he suggested that we all should have one. I told him very clearly more than once, we would only want 4 Gammel dansk. He still poured 9...shots of GD. When it came to paying he insisted that I should pay for all the shots. I refused to pay for more than 4 shots and asked him if he was joking, he asked if I was joking. He told me the manager was beside him who agreed with him. My friend paid for the extra shots. The manager got very stressed and asked for my details because he was gonna call me the day after. I told him I would not like to hear from him and that I would never come to his place again. He told me he was happy that i wouldnt come again. Incredibly rude staff and manager who obviously asks his staff to try to trick customers.More

I was at the KEF location for Jomfruin. I had a nice, pleasant late afternoon meal. The food was lovely, nicely presented, and the service was excellent. A great place to enjoy some 'sanity' from the airport 'busy-ness'.

Our only full day in Reykjavik and we spent the entire day on a tour; went looking for dinner options about 8:30 PM. We found this lovely restaurant not far from our hotel. The service was excellent as well as the food. My husband had...an open faced burger and I had salmon tartar with a cheese plate. Despite arriving near their closing time, we were not rushed at all, and in fact, were encouraged to take our time and enjoy the food. Would eat here again!More

Very good for airport food. Plaice and Shrimp Smørrebrød very good. Large portions luckily we ordered the 1/2 sizes. Service was friendly. They also had some electric outlets which was handy.

Didn't have a reservation but was seated and served promptly despite all nearby tables being taken. Extensive menu, difficult to chose from many delicious-sounding food! Chose 3 half portions that filled me up very adequately. Very nice to be able to choose a selection. Each...was interesting and tasty. Shrimps were slightly disappointing -- chewy and relatively tasteless. Overall a very good meal.More

Bad service, smelly fish. The waiter was initially ok until I ordered my food, which was the cured salmon and avocado. Then he was mostly in the back, I had to flag him down. The fish was very fish tasting and seemed raw. I think...they should warn people that it's not smoked. It too forever to get him back to ask about it. Then after waving madly and asking for bill he still made us wait.More

Lovely food, staff waiter was very attentive and kept us entertained even with a grumpy 8 year old. Jakobs Plaice was the best fish I’ve ever eaten. Steak was perfect and the schnitzel was delicious 👌

We couldn’t get into Messinn, the too popular Icelandic restaurant next door, so when we saw this place looking both cozy, elegant and filled with happy seeming people enjoying a meal, we decided to go for it. This was a good decision! Some reviewers bemoaned...that this is Danish food in Iceland. For us that was a saving grace. After two weeks of fish and chips, arctic char and lamb, we were grateful for a change. We split the “luxury” package which came with a large selection of the restaurant’s “greatest hits”. Everything was fresh and delicious. The service was friendly and efficient. This is a place that is easy to recommend.More

It must have been a wrong choice for us. The main attraction was bread in different formats that surprised us. People around us seemed to like it, but I left hungry despite a large and expensive piece of bread with some toppings.

f you want Danish smørrebrød in Iceland then this is the right place for you. However, I would get that instead of some other dishes you can get from all the other restaurants like beef and pork. This is a Danish inspiration and you should...indulge in that food. EnjoyMore
