We had a wonderful meal! The while the food was very good, it was our waiter that made the meal so marvelous. We are not big drinkers but we’re intrigued by the “snaps” offerings. The waiter poured the snaps expertly and effortlessly filling the shot...glasses completely. The waiter also perfectly selected snaps that complemented our meals. Based upon our observations, the other wait staff were equally exceptional. This was confirmed by the many regulars who came into the restating who greeted the staff like old friends. The meal was topped off by one of the best pieces of chocolate cake thatI have ever eaten.More

Friendly staff, a menu with many different options, focused on cold plates, which are very well made, good in portion as well as in look and taste.

Elegant Danish restaurant in the heart of Reykjavik. Fine dining. Excellent Danish cuisine including a herring menu. Great for a elegant dining experience in Reykjavik. Clean, well managed, professionally run, great service. Price is fair by Icelandic standards. Despite this, food portions are on the...smaller side. My liver main dish was by far the best of our group.More

What a delightful spot for a light meal. It’s the home of Danish smørrebrød in Iceland. Smørrebrød is a traditional Danish open sandwich which usually consists of a piece of buttered dense dark rye bread, topped with cold pieces of meat or fish, cheese or...spreads, salads and garnishes. We were taken to lunch at Jomfruin by someone in the know, an eminent local resident of Reykjavik. It’s the kind of place many tourists might walk right by, unsure of what it is all about and maybe not willing to try it. We had a delightful lunch here; it’s perfect if you are looking for something light and tasty. The restaurant is spacious, comfortable and casual. It was a lovely mild day in Reykjavik so we opted to sit outside in the spacious courtyard to the rear and side of the restaurant. The menu (in both English and Icelandic) is vast, with a huge array of open sandwiches. Each dish is pictured in the menu so you get a good idea if what you are going to get; in fact, it’s probably the only restaurant I’ve ever been to where the menu picture exactly matches what you actually get. There is something for everyone, with many meat, fish, and vegan / vegetarian combinations available. There are dozens of different open sandwiches for your selection. Our party of 5 enjoyed 4 different sandwiches - the Jakob’s Plaice (crumbed plaice with smoked salmon and caviar, shrimps and asparagus), the Lambasteik (roast lamb with mushrooms and mountain cranberry jam), the Honsesalat (chicken mayonnaise salad with mushrooms and bacon) and the Reyktar Kartofluer (smoked potatoes with avocado). The smørrebrød selections were fresh, tasty, and delicious. They are quite full meals in themselves; the serves were substantial. We had some freshly brewed coffees after our lunch. The coffees were robust and strong. Service was pleasant, helpful and unobtrusive. If you are looking for a light lunch or dinner, do not pass this spot by. You can’t miss its bright green and white colour scheme; it’s on Laekjargata, right by the Hard Rock Cafe. It’s reasonably priced. As well as the courtyard and inside seating, there’s also pavement seating at the front of the restaurant. With the sun shining, tables there were hard-pressed. Give it a try!More

This fine Danish smorgasbord restaurant is unique in Reykjavik and has been a favorite for decades. You can expect two things at Jómfrúin: beautifully prepared Danish open-face sandwiches, and surly, inattentive service. The dining room is fairly plain with framed posers of Tivoli Park and...simple paper-covered tables. The menu is extensive with sandwiches featuring fish, meat or vegetables. The prices are high - even for Reykjavik. With so much going for this kind or restaurant, it is just a shame the service is so appalling.More

We stumbled onto this restauarnt by chance as we were walking in the city center. The atmosphere was very appealing and the menu of open-faced sandwiches quite diverse. We had a crab salad and a roast lamb sandwich and both of them very delicious and...ample sized. Service at lunch time was friendly and prompt. A good experience.More

Nice place, good service but the sandwiches were rather average. Shrimps rubbery and the hot smoked salmon of supermarket quality.

This was mentioned in my Top 10 Iceland DK guidebook and we walked a long way to get to it and were tempted to give up but glad we didn’t. We had crab salad and prawn open sandwiches both super fresh and tasty. Friendly service,...reasonable prices.More

Food delicious, I have nothing bad to say about the food! Tablecloths weren’t the best but still ok to eat on. Five stars.
