Caruso restaurant is often celebrated for its enchanting atmosphere, with guests frequently praising the romantic vibes, live music, and the warm, candlelit ambiance. The food receives compliments for being delectable and satisfactorily portioned, despite occasional inconsistencies. Service at Caruso tends to be efficient and cordial, contributing to the positive dining experience, though a few visitors have noted rare instances of neglect. While most find the pricing reasonable, there are some concerns about value, as a handful of patrons point out smaller portions and pricing discrepancies.

We visited here on a Saturday night after walking around trying to find some form of English friendly food. (Yes I know it was Italian however it was more english than all the thai restaurants) I ordered the bolegnaise and it was very tasty. My husband ordered Chicken tagliatelle which he enjoyed. It came with a slice of garlic bread and we also ordered a portion of gralic bread as a side instead of a starter. Worth the money

Recent reviews are either very harsh food critics or just like moaning. We enjoyed an excellent lunch with a delightful waitress serving us called Natalia. To dispell recent critics; we had plenty time to choose from the menu, were given a basket of bread for 5 people, brought water at no extra charge and the portion sizes were extremely generous. Our party enjoyed, lobster cream soup, chicken noodle soup, roasted salmon, seafood risotto, rack of lamb and a really unusual take on a calzone pizza. With desserts, coffee and drinks all round the bill was very reasonable for the quality of food and service. Thank you Caruso, we will recommend your restaurant to anyone who visits Reykjavik.

Atmosphere inside was great, very comfortable. We were seated in the attic. Food was great. They were super busy and our waiter was reassigned, so we had to reorder our drinks, but that didn't take away form the overall pleasant experience. Staff was very friendly as well. Prices in general are high in Iceland, but this restaurant was on par with most other restaurants we visited. We would definitely go back if we come to Iceland again.

We booked a table for 6.30pm via the online form. When we arrived we were kept waiting a few minutes – they did not appear to be expecting us. When we placed our order the waitress was very careful to get us to point to the menu to make sure she wrote down the right meals. We ordered three starters and five main courses (for five of us). However, we then waited about 20 minutes before being given some bread for the table. Then we waited again; we were getting very hungry but tried to be patient and did not complain because we could see that the restaurant was very busy. Then at 7.30 a waitress tried to give us two of the five main courses. We then found out that for some reason the waitress who took our order had decided that we wanted all the starters at the same time as the main courses. It was completely bizarre – I have no idea where she got that impression from – certainly none of us said anything like that! We had to send three of the main courses back to the kitchen to be kept warm while we ate the starters. Fortunately the quality of the food did not seem to suffer too much from that, but I found the whole experience very disappointing. Also, I was supposed to get garlic bread with my Roasted Lobster (according to the menu), but I was not given any. I did not bother complaining because by then we were still sharing the cheesy garlic bread starter that we had ordered, so we had enough food between us. It would have just been good if the arrival of the courses had been spread out better so we didn't get full up so quickly. Considering that Caruso is the top-rated Italian place in Reykjavik, I really was expecting better service than that.

I can’t believe how much this restaurant ruined New Years Eve for my family. I booked this restaurant 2 months in advance of the date we were coming. I checked so many restaurant menus in Reykjavik and this was the one I chose because my children love Italian food especially pizza. I double checked the menu was suitable. We arrived in Reykjavik on the 30th December and I went to the restaurant to check the booking and AGAIN I checked the menu. We arrived on New Years Eve to find that there was a very small, limited and overpriced set menu. There was no pizza on the kids menu and we asked if they would make us some pizza and they said no. We left. We then walked the streets of Reykjavik with 2 small children looking for somewhere to get dinner with no luck at all because everywhere was booked. We couldn’t even get a take away anywhere. I really feel so upset that this happened and why could the restaurant not have showed the menu for New Year’s Eve when we booked?

I am so sorry for this, but our New Year´s eve menu had been in our home page for weeks, all restaurants have a special menu for this evening, we also had children´s menu but unfortunately with no pizzas.

I have nothing but praise for this quaint restaurant. Of all the options in Reykjavik I chose to take my girlfriend here for our anniversary. I could not have selected a better restaurant. The location was perfect, right in the heart of the city. I had a reservation, and despite how busy it was we were seated immediately. My girlfriend was amazed by the atmosphere. It felt like home dining, there were candles and red roses on each table, there was a gentleman playing soft music on the guitar, and the low level lighting made it a very intimate and romantic dining experience. The food was amazing!! We got the garlic bread as an appetizer and that may have been the best garlic bread I've ever had. For dinner I got the chicken alfredo and she got another pasta dish which included bacon and a cream sauce, I can't remember the name of the dish. Both were just incredible, we each finished our meals. The prices were reasonable compared to other higher end restaurants in the city. This is a must visit restaurant in Reykjavik, don't skip on this one!!

We have visited Caruso in the evening mid june 2021. We were running late and this was one of the last open restaurants. Alredy viewing the menu we got a bit suspicious. The ingredients of the dishes seened very odd and not really fitting each other. To be safe we have selected the simplest seafood dishes on the menu. The hope was that on an island with a tradition of seafood this should go well. I have ordered a lobster soup and the fish of the day. The soup was OK. However the fish was a disaster. I got 2 pieces of overcooked traut served with olives and capares(!?) togetger with patato ouree and sone random veggies. The entire dish was soaking with oil. Even the patato puree was horrible. Apart fron the taste the cook didnt even bother to properly nash the patatos so the puree consisted of pieces of unmashed patatoes and bit of ouree in between. My partber ordered pasta with shrimp. The shrimps were OK. However the pasta was dramatically overcooked nearly falling apart. The souce was so watery that it didnt stick to the noodles. On top of that it was so sour it was barely eatable. In total the pasta was more of a sour soup than actual pasta. We skipped the desert. The only reason i gave 2 stars and not 1 was the very polite and proffesional waiting staff. I was genuinly amazaed that a restaurant with such bad food can survive. Especially with the price for dinner over 100 euro... I regret not eating a kebab that night.

Due to storms, all our plans changed. As we walked past, we saw the menu and said "lets see if they can fit us in". The atmosphere was lovely. The staff were accommodating. The food was absolutely lovely, and I was surprised by how cheap it was considering the standard. They accommodated my request for a change to printed menu, due to dietary needs, with staff ensuring the message was clear as to my needs. When we asked for the bill, I had to check that it was the bill for both of us, as I was so surprised at how cheap it was. Would definitely recommend it. The food was fresh and delicious

Came here with my friends. One of them having allergies to onion. After recieving his plate and eating part of it the waiter returned with the right plate without onion. My friend ending up half the time in the bathroom with and alergic reaction! We asked for the head waiter who said this was our problem since we switched seates even of we asked repetedly when the dish came out if it was without onion. We received 4 beef plates for 4 people even if one had asked for lamb. Only when we had started eating the waiter showed up with the no onion dish wich was then to late. We got no compensation only rude response from the head waiter and the staff. We were not happy with our stay and will never be returning.

So sorry to hear but as I understand two girls of your group appologize to the head waiter for the behavior of this person, as he was very drunk and people seating next to your table also complained about him,

We came here as a family in May 2021 with high hopes! We came at 19pm and they sat us on a table right away in the corner on the first floor. We had to wait for about 20min for the waiter to come take our order and the we proceeded to wait for one and a half hour for our food. We were getting really hungry and frustrated and when we asked about it they just told us it was on its way. Tonight we decided to give it a second chance and arrived at 20pm. We waited for 30min for the waiter to take our order and then proceeded to wait for one hour and a half (AGAIN) for our food. Now we knew it was not a coincidence. We asked a woman to check on it and she never came back to tell us, I had to go and find her. We had decided to leave in 10min if the food wouldn’t arrive before that. They probably heard us talking about that and when we all were getting ready to leave the food finally arrived. Terrible Terrible service!! Food is fine but they need to add more staff or changes it completely!! This is just ridiculous!!

If you want a cosy meal in traditional & charming surroundings, then this is the place for you. The place is easy to find (you need to enter around the back) and we were greeted with a warm and friendly smile. The menu is quite varied; anything from pizza to a steak & lobster meal, so there is plenty of choice which should suit all tastes and hunger levels. The food is amazing, cooked to perfection and served with care - you really feel welcome in Caruso. We enjoyed it so much, we went twice. Highly recommend - we don't think you'll be disappointed. Enjoy!

We were expecting a nice Italian meal and ended up with a very average meal and service. We ordered the Caprese salad as a starter before our mains. However Caruso’s Caprese salad ($19/€16/2390ISK) consisted of only 2 cherry tomatoes cut in half, 5 pea sized mozzarella balls, and a sprinkle of rocket leaves. It was so small and sad looking with very little flavor. Service was about the same. Even though we had a booking, everyone just seemed bothered to be working there. No one looked like they enjoyed their job. Our pasta mains were fine but not what I would call authentic Italian. I don’t think the pasta is house made. The best thing I can say about the evening is that the building had great character.

Very busy and glad we booked. Food was good and overall atmosphere ok, however, service was very impersonal and almost like being on a production line. Not typical Italian when it comes to the ambiance of this restaurant.

We were starting our 10-day visit to Iceland with a day in the capital and as it looked like the smaller towns on the itinerary would have more limited, fish-focused menus, we decided to take advantage of the great culinary options in Reykjavik and Brooke a table at Caruso. This quaint Italian restaurant is housed in a 200 year old historic building that has had many uses over the centuries including courthouse jail and seminary. We sat at a small table upstairs and enjoyed a fresh caprese and arugula salad to start and a rich and creamy pasta with langoustines for our main. The small wine list was more than adequate and the service was friendly. There was a great cosiness here that made of a pleasant meal.

We visited here on our first full day in Iceland, in the evening after a full day of exploring. As we hadn’t been sure what time we’d be back, we hadn’t made a reservation anywhere. The menu caught our eye and we enquired about a table. They were able to accommodate us, and the staff were very attentive and we didn’t feel rushed despite not having a reservation and the restaurant being busy (it was a Tuesday evening). We were seated at a table at the front of the restaurant looking out onto the Main Street, next to a window, which was perfect for us. There were plenty of options for both starters and mains (we didn’t look at the desserts). The soup starter was so fresh and delicious. My husband had the garlic bread, which he enjoyed, this was a massive portion and could have easily been shared (he managed the whole basket though!) I chose the marinated chicken breast main, which was perfectly cooked and again the portion of chicken was large, I felt I got a lot of chicken. My husband had the Alfredo tagliatelle, which he said was flavourful. We both thoroughly enjoyed our evening here. The setting is quite intimate, the tables are quite close together, the atmosphere was calm despite being busy. We noted there was outdoor seating, with heaters and a cover, which would be lovely to sit in. We would definitely return.
