About
A five story concrete building that once housed offices on the upper floors and a metalwork company on the ground floor, now is the home of restaurant The Steakhouse on the ground floor, the four floors above are now apartments. The old harbor area of Reykjavik has in the last couple of years, changed in to a real gem where various cuisines, museums and arts and crafts have replaced the metalworks and fisheries. The newest addition is STEIKHÚSIÐ, which simply means „The Steak House”. The name is a deliberately this simple and descriptive, the aim is to be the only steakhouse you think of after the first visit. The heart of Steikhúsið is the coal oven from Mibrasa and the soul is our own way of tendering meat for at least 28 days. Those who seek for something purely Icelandic won’t be disappointed, Steikhúsið also caters to those who want the best of Icelandic lamb and fish.

Amazing steak dinner. My husband got the dry aged angus rib eye, and I had the horse tenderloin. Both were incredible, cooked perfectly, very juicy and delicious. I got fries and he got mushrooms, tasty. Neither of the sauces we got tasted very good (red wine glaze and chimi churry) but neither were necessary, the steaks were so good the sauce only spoiled it. So don’t spend the money on them (around 500kr each) I highly recommend this restaurant for a great dinner!

We wanted to go out for a good steak at a nice restaurant without spending all of our money.
We went for a deal of the month which was a three course meal. Only thing I didn’t like about it was that served french fries with the steak except serving a real potato... but I’m expecting that it had not been any problem changing it. :)
It was a nice little restaurant with good food and lovely staff.
Our waitress Kristín was super.. she was always ready to serve us and did a really good job even though the restaurant was completely full.
Would recommend and would go again.

Visited for my son's birthday during our amazing trip to Reykjavik as he likes a steak and everything about this restaurant made it one of many highlights of our trip. Superb service, friendly chefs from their open kitchen and at the centre of it all the Tomahawk steak for 2 - the best steak I have ever had, Premium black Angus beef cooked to perfection and fried broccoli and sautéed garlic mushrooms complimented it so we. My wife had the tenderloin, also delicious.
The ribs to start - faultless with a lovely puree and not over facing so meant we somehow finished off the Tomahawk.
I was pleasantly surprised when the bill came, around £200 which also included a nice bottle of red and dessert. For steak as good this I would say excellent value for money. We have eaten at Hawksmoor which I would say is an excellent steakhouse in England... but this surpassed it.
Well done and thank you to the team at Steikhusid for a faultless meal on our last evening in amazing Iceland.

Even by Iceland standards this place is expensive for frankly pretty average steak., The cuts of meat we were served were pretty average and very fatty. Side orders of chips were average and asparagus overcooked. Desserts were all style over substance with too many different tastes on the plate. Impressive, but very expensive winelist. The service was very hit or miss, with several items forgotten about. Staff were ok, but kinda lost interest halfway through and did not even say goodbye at the end. Overall, disappointing as we were high spending customers at over £450.00 US on a dinner for four!!!!!

I went there 2 days ago and the service was terrible.. They refuse us to have a table as apparently they're full by the time we want to get out they want to offer us a table.. The food took ages and it was too pricey.. I ordered a steak thats well done but they gave me a rare one and when I complained they were being funny with me.. For the price of the food it is completely crap.. The service was not good enough

I have eaten at this restaurant couple times before and got a great steak, but this time was an exception.
It was an extremely busy night and the place was packed and a little space between tables. We had to wait 50 minutes for 3 steaks and 1 chicken breast, which is a long time for a place this size.
The steaks were cooked wrong and starting to get cold when they arrived. The quality of meat was poor, and even the beef tenderloin was chewy.

The Steikhusid (The Steakhouse) delivers on ambience and food. We had the 3-course Christmas Day Menu. Beef tenderloin was grilled as requested and tender. Service was good. It was an expensive meal (even without a bottle of wine); not sure if pricing was the usual to be expected or higher due to holiday. Not saying it wasn't worth it, but be forewarned.

Having a lot of króna left from our holiday on Sunday evening (01/03/2020) we decided to try this excellent restuarant after seeing the reviews. I chose T bone steak (medium well done) it came back 2 stages rarer than that which is one of my pet hates (why can't otherwise good chefs follow basic steak cooking instructions) anyway I digress, in Iceland you order the rest of your meal individually and are charged individually for each added item, I had chips, sautéed root vegetables, mushrooms and pepper sauce my partner had 2 marinated chicken breastswith baby potatoes and a mushroom and vegetable garnish, I had a glass of lager and my partner had a small red wine food was truly delicious. Bill was an eye watering £107 so cheap it ain't but highly recommended.

Pre-booked as it was Christmas eve and there was no other way, few restaurants were open on that night.
There was a "fixed" 3 course menu which was emailed to us in advance.
The food was tasty, but the portion size was average. Service efficient but impersonal (in all fairness it was extremely busy). It is too expensive (219 pounds for a couples' dinner with only beers to drink) for what is offered (could not appreciate any ambiance ourselves) and will not be returning.

Excellent dinner, perfectly prepared. Was very happy to see fish on the menu as I wanted something lighter. Steak was amazing, too. Waiter was especially charming, friendly, and professional and we thoroughly enjoyed our dinner. Nice ambiance and appreciated that they wore masks. In a very expensive city for dining out this is a good deal with a 2 course dinner for about $40. Highly recommend!

What an awful place!
It's quite expensive so one would expect the food to be decent but almost everything was terrible!
My husband ordered some full menu and he was happy with the starter and the desert (that's the only positive I can give). Our steaks were so overbearingly seasoned that we couldn't even taste the meat. Seasoned with something that left a bad aftertaste. The fries were terrible, no taste except of oil - I have my doubts they were new. The bread served before the dinner wasn't even good and the butter had licorice salt on top so all you can taste is salt, the creaminess of the butter is just lost behind that.
The staff made us really uncomfortable more than once. I made the mistake of answering honestly when we were leaving if we had been happy with the food and the waiter got really upset at me and scolded me for not having complained during the meal so they could have fixed it.
First of all, don't tell your customers off like they are little kids. Second of all honey, how do you plan to fix things when it's everything that's bad.
We had a similarly rude reaction when we had asked about the desert when ordering.
There are other immensely better steak restaurants in the city, I advise you find another one and avoid this place.

The restaurant located near the old habour is pretty well decorated with bar and also has beef dry aged fridge.
The service is top notch.
The whale tartar and short ribs are tasty and full of flavours. Slightly on salty side.
The Tomahawk Angus steak is done to perfection, tender, juicy and yummy.
4.5 Star for me.

We ordered different dishes to get the real taste of Iceland and we we were not disappointed. Fabulous whale and horse steaks, lamb better than even one could imagine. All cooked to our request. The whale starter is something that we will never forget - AMAZING!!! Side orders of spinach, asparagus, sauces...also great. Everything served in a fashionable but not over the top way. Very respectful, courteous but also friendly and cheerful staff.
Obviously it could be cheaper but it's well worth the money.
THANKS :)))

I've been in this restaurant for a business dinner. I have to say that all the food me and my clients ordered were very good tasting, from the appetizers to the main courses.
The restaurant had also a wide choice of foreign bottles of wine, which were suggested with the meat we ate.
Elegant style of the interior accommodation.
I would recommend such a place for a good tasting dinner.

A chef that really knows how to cook a steak! My steak was just perfect! My husband had the lamb and our daughters the tuna and chicken. It was all cooked to perfection, the chicken was juicy not dry and the tuna was really 'a point. It is indeed quite expensive but every Króna worthed. We will definitely go back!
