I just returned from a magical trip to Reykjavik which was made all the more memorable having visited Loa almost every day during my stay. Firstly, the location of the restaurant / bistro on Laugavegur could not be better, it is centrally located within very easy walking distance from all the main sites you would hope to visit during a stay, and also to all the hotels (my hotel was very close, the restaurant was attached to it). Secondly, and most importantly, the restaurant was exceptional, at least one of the dishes I ate (the lamb) worthy of a Michelin Star in my view. The waiting staff are friendly and welcoming and very happy to offer advice about the items on the menu (as well as about travelling throughout Iceland). I recommend the lamb soup, the salmon and also (if you happen to be in the area between 7-10am) the self-service breakfast. The food is reasonably priced (bearing in mind that all Reykjavik restaurants are more expensive than those in the rest of Europe / the US), if you prefer to eat a starter rather than a main meal / are on a budget they are also all really excellent. Loa is one of the most amazing restaurants I have visited, I will definitely return in January when I next visit Iceland and I hope anyone reading this review will visit it too! Warmest regards from London Dominic

We enjoyed our meal here so much we went back. The food was delicious. The Icelandic Meat Soup was so tasty with just the right amount of heat from a chilli. We had to have fish for mains and both the Ling and Cod were beautifully served and tasted delicious. Unfortunately there was no room left for desert. The prices were in line with other restaurants in Reykjavik and the service was friendly and unintrusive. The restaurant is next to Bus Stop 9 and just off the main streets so a little less busy than others.

This restaurant was right next to our hotel and we’d researched places to eat in advance and already marked this as a top favourite. On our arrival the bus dropped us off right outside it so we popped our heads in and reserved a table for that every evening. The server was great as we were going on a northern lights tour that evening so they helped us work out the best time for our table reservation so we had time to still get to our excursion. On our arrival we were welcomed and offered a table by the window (always my preference) and given the menu. Either a la carte or the tasting menu. With it being our first trip to Iceland we opted for the tasting menu for some local dishes and chose the wine flight to match. My husband doesn’t drink red wine though so they took the time to discuss the menu and alternative wine options for him. We did ask to change out a couple of dishes so we could both have different options and share each others for more food experiences which they allowed – again very friendly and helpful. The food was amazing, beautifully presented and so tasty. We had fresh bread rolls and a herby whipped butter before the main food arrived and wow that butter was phenomenal I could just eat it raw, it was so light and full of flavour. I’ll attached some photos of the dishes but there was so many little surprises within each dish that every mouthful was a different wonderful flavour sensation. The wine was perfect with each course also. Service was brilliant and to be honest there wasn’t a single negative about the experience. Everything in Iceland is expensive and you need to go there understanding that, this restaurant was more on the pricier side but it was fine dining so again to be expected. We thought for the service, food, location and all round experience it was more than reasonable. We would absolute recommend a visit/meal here and if we were to return to Iceland we would definitely come back here ourselves.

I had the pan fried ling. Not the style of food I typically go for but I finished every morsel on the plate and thoroughly enjoyed every bite. Iceland food is generally expensive and this wasn't at the cheaper end but you should definitely consider eating there at least once. I got a discount as a hotel guest.

On a cold evening had a warm welcome by staff into this smart looking restaurant. My husband ordered the beef tenderloin which he was completely happy with. I ordered the fillet of cod. It was beautifully presented and the flavours would have been enhanced even more if the meal would have been hot - unfortunately it was lukewarm. The young lady waiting on asked if everything was alright with our meals before we had even started eating so this felt just a formality. A large party then arrived so I couldn't get anyone's attention. By then anyway, I'd already quickly eaten it before it became stone cold. I should have been able to eat the meal slowly and savour those flavours. (We ate again at another restaurant later in the week and I had arctic char and again it wasn't hot enough so maybe this is how the fish is served here. The meal would have been perfect if my food would have been hotter.

Great location, EXCELLENT FOOD, excellent service. For starter we had the salted fish tartare, that was spicy and good. Than for main course I had the lamb fillet and my husband had the beef tenderloin, everything cooked to perfection. For dessert we had chocolate pannacotta, that was very good. We will definitely visit this restaurant again.

We dined 4 times at Lóa Restaurant, testament to it's staff and quality of food. Once in isolation and 3 times when staying at it's attached hotel (Center Hotel Laugavegur). The staff at the restaurant took our gluten and dairy free status to the chef and he/she was able to cook our meals accordingly. My wife had Lamb ($A60) the first time we visited and I had Tenderloin ($A63) with a bottle of Pinot Grigio ($A69). Our second meal after we had settled in to the hotel for my wife was Pan Fried Ling (with mashed potatoes, fried pak choi, romanesco broccoli, spring onion, pickled shallot and wild mushroom with port wine sauce). I had Meat Soup (lamb & vegetables) and it was the most filling meal I had had in a long time, and so delicious. Lóa Restaurant were very accommodating in terms of our allergies (gluten & dairy). For our third meal there I had Beef Tenderloin (with mushroom puree, confit baby potatoes, roasted brussels sprouts, mushrooms, shallots and burgundy sauce) and my wife had Traditional Icelandic Meat Soup (lamb & vegetables). We shared a dessert called Coconut Panna Cotta (toasted coconut flaked, coconut, passion fruit ice cream and passion fruit coulis). For our final dinner in Reykjavik we had Ceviche (Artic char ceviche, shrimp mousse, lime gel, wasabi mayonnaise, mango-wakame salsa and puffed rice biscuit) & Cod Tartare (with paprika puree, crispy chorizo chip, olive mousse and tomato crust). The quality of the meals was exceptional and the staff were very helpful and accommodating. Highly recommended.

An amazing find on our first night, the food was amazing (we were also given amuse-bouche of salmon and something and it was one of the best things I’ve eaten haha) and the staff were lovely. Perfect level of making you feel like you were dining somewhere very nice, but without being in your face and pushy! I am gluten free and they knew exactly what was in their food and I felt safe ordering knowing it was safe for me. Really recommend!!

Attempting to do a Reykjavik break on a budget isn't easy. But for our final night we splashed out and booked a meal at Loa. We chose Loa due to its high rating on Trip Advisor, its location close to our hotel, the ability to book a table online, and also I knew there would be a vegetarian option for me. So had pretty much decided on our order even before we arrived. Staff were welcoming and very attentive (almost too much so when they check back the moment you've a taken your first mouthful). The decor a modern take on 70s casual and the food was presented beautifully. It was probably a bit fancy for my usual taste as I had to ask what the strange pip like berries on my parsnip dish were (paprika I found out - who knew?). Other half had the lamb and demolished the lot and then a chocolate cake. For Iceland prices it wasn't bad, just don't convert it to £ as then it seemed like a crazy expense.

Our experience at Loa was amazing! The food and service were exceptional. It’s a warm, inviting atmosphere with delicious menu items. Our waiter was Julian. He was very attentive and made sure we were more than happy and satisfied. I have a food intolerance to one of the ingredients in the dish I wanted, and Julian said I should still go with ordering the dish, and he will ask the chef to come up with an alternative, which I genuinely appreciated for such a meticulously planned dish. The dish turned out to be phenomenal. Thank you for the wonderful tastes and service! I have a few pictures after I had already started eating :)

Wonderful restaurant with charmingly attentive staff. Excellent cuisine. From the amuse Bouche, right through the seafood soup, utterly delicious and then melt in the mouth roast lamb fillet. My bouche and belly were happily amused! 😊🙏💕

The restaurant is connected to a hotel so were it not for the ratings being so high we’d never have considered dining here! Both my husband and my meal was good but it was the server was tied it all together. He took the time to really understand any food allergies, make food and wine suggestions based on our input and interact with us. Overall, we were surprisingly impressed with our experience.

We visted Loa on the 2nd day of our three day trip to Iceland. We had been on the Golden Circle tour and only had a short period of time before our Northern Lights trip - so when we asked would we have time for a meal -the waitress was lovely and said it would be no problem at all. The quality and presentation of the food was exceptional and we were provided with an amuse bouche prior to recieving our meal The restaurant has apparently recently come under new management/been relaunched so they are working hard to build their reputation. If they keep serving food the way they do - it won't be a problem!

This is a very busy restaurant with a limited menu and average priced for Iceland. It is a bit noisy probably because it is normally full. The service is good, the décor average, the food good but not exceptional and the same goes for the presentation. One salad (shared) plus a large burger and a pan-fried ling came to about KR$10.000 or CAD$100.00 including the 11% VAT and rounded it off. The fries accompanying the burger were too salty.
