On our first day in Iceland we were looking for a place to eat when I noticed a restaurant called MEAT on the map, I knew we had to try it! The restaurant itself it inconspicuously hidden behind a large black door. However, once inside the ambience inside is very cool and the staff are very likeable and chatty.
To go along with this, we found that despite being a bit pricey, the food was incredible - well worth every Krona spent. My partner said she didn't like Carpuccio but i forced her to try it, she ended up eating more of it than me! It was probably the best meal we had on the whole trip.

This is good wine for best price since the average red wine on the long list cost IKR 35.000 or €250.
Atmosphere was a little chilly al night long. Service was in a hurry but when I mentioned this I was penalised and had to ask for attention.
I suggest to take the 3 course menu at the back of the paper fold, only for hole table.
I think all meat is from the island since it is not very tender. Take the Tenderlion instead of paying extra for T-bone.
Char starter is some small pieces of salmon. The carpaccio is quite a plate.
The desserts were very good.
After dinner the Happy Hour starts to sell some digestive drinks. We were done.
Probably a popular place for the local happy few.

We arrive much earlier and we were welcomed with banter which we were off to a lovely start. Food was amazing. My boyfriend said “it was top class food” as well the atmosphere but the service could get better for example we noticed that there was only one waiter basically serving everyone. Maybe someone called in sick the last moment or they weren’t expecting it to be that busy but it would have been 5 star if there were more waiters working.

Originally booked for the day before at 6.30pm for 4 people, had hotel re-arrange for next day at 8.30pm. Personally heard the conversation so when we arrived and were told that we had booked for 6.30pm I was less than impressed. Nobody offered to take our coats, we were merely shown a cupboard to hang them ourselves. Maitre D then marches off with menus through the restaurant and proceeds to tap the top of the booth with said menus until we arrived at the table. We proceeded to ask a few questions about the different steaks and basically were told that the Sashi was marbled and thats why it was the best. We all ordered a version of the sashi, three rib eyes and I had the 300g Fillet. The starters were ok, my friends steaks were ok, mine was a disgrace. I was served a tail end piece of fillet that was over cooked and tough. This is supposedly the best piece of steak in the restaurant. I asked for it to be taken away and another served. After a 25 minute wait, I was again served a tail end piece of fillet that was cooked appalingly. I refused it and this was taken off our bill. The service was poor, the staff had little knowledge of the meats they serve and the Maitr d' is possibly the rudest I have ever encountered. I am amazed at the amount of good reviews this restaurant has received as in my opinion, having eaten in some of the best retaurants throughout the world, this was an utter joke. I have never posted a review on an establishment before but was so infuriated at the experience we received I felt compelled to do so.

Very poor service, the waiter was very distant and obviously had very little interest in being in the area. When the food was finally served on the table, it came in multiple doses, since all the guests at the table didn’t receive their food at the same time, but two of us had to wait 10 minutes longer for their food. When the last dishes came to the table then we had to wait even longer for the side dishes that should come with the food.
When we spoke with the reception about the service it was like a one way street, no interest at all and honestly he didn’t care at all and just looked away. Maybe we would understand this slow service if the restaurant was very busy but it wasn’t!
I doubt that I will ever step my foot in this place again.

Very disappointing meal from start to finish. I had the lamb and it was overcooked and over salted. Grilled romaine was over dressed and my kids each had tenderloins which were bland. Presentation was completely uninspired.
Most importantly, though the service was some of the worst I’ve had in a while. Inattentive and brisk when it did arrive. We waited nearly a 1/2 hour just to get drinks. It felt as if we were troubling the wait staff the whole way through. ‘Didn’t clear wine glasses of those not drinking, leaving an over cluttered table and at end of meal just left bread, butter and starter dishes on table.
All of this would be fine for a diner, but MEAT represents itself as fine dining which it was decidedly not. Save yourself some money and hit the Pylsur stand down the street.

We visited here to celebrate a wedding anniversary and birthday. It was recommended to us. I couldn't be more disappointed, the waitress was miserable, and really did not want us to stay for long, she made no conversation and made us generally feel unwelcomed. The restaurant is very dark and hard to see what you eating, the food is overpriced for what it is, quality is very mediocre, had much better food in other cheaper restaurants in Iceland

Ordered the lobster soup of their lunch menu and ordered a beer. They had one mediocre beer on tap, which was disappointing. The soup was served so you could see the amount of lobster you got. Four small pieces the size of a dime. The waiter then spilled the soup, which was a portion too small for my cat, over the “lobster”, it was very mediocre. So poor beer, minuscule amount of lobster and poor service. All in all a bad experience, would not recommend.

The place is so dark that customers were reading th menus by the lights on their phones.
I drew the curtain back a bit in order to read mine and a waiter hurried to pull the curtain so that the light was cut off again.
This was the only time during our "meal" that a waiter hurried and I never got one part of my order because the waiter had forgotten to enter it in the computer!
Nobody came to ask my partner how he found his food (I was hoping that I would b able to get their attention hen th customary stop by would occur). I was totally ignored.
I saw plenty of the backs of the waiters' heads but when I finally gave up and walked to the servant's station they infomed me that my order was not in the computer. Hm, was that my fault? I would have been asking about it if I had been able to get their attention.
They offered me coffee or a desert instead of the dish I had wanted because it would take time to make it and my partner had finished his so, so steak.
This was a special evening which I had come into town to celebrate with my friend. It was not ruined because we decidd to go home and relax. And fry a hamburger.
This place with this bad service in the dark is not even as good as a hamburger stand.
Fool me once. NEVER AGAIN.

Ordered from a very limited, almost laughable “steak” menu. Starters arrived with lightning speed and our wine hadn’t arrived so we waited to begin. A fair amount of time passed, trying to catch a waiter’s attention from the ‘gaggle of waiters’ congregated around the kitchen area. No one came, so my partner got up and we asked for our wine, again. We got an apology and began our starter.
As soon as my knife and fork hits the plate upon finishing my starter the main courses we beside us! They couldn’t put the plates down as our starter plates were in the way! We complained at this point and asked to speak to the manager, which they attempted to avert by offering us a free drink. We had barely had any of our wine! After the manager arrived we complained to him, to which he just nodded and smiled and although he offered to cook the meal again for us, the poor experience along with the prices they charge forced our hand into leaving. I decided to give him one last chance and ask how he might resolve this terrible experience, he replied ‘Well how would you resolve this Sir”. I smiled and answered “by getting up and leaving. We are not paying for this meal. Shame really, as it was my birthday. This is the first time we’ve ever walked out of a restaurant, in our lives.
Weirdly there were two quite well dressed gentleman sitting diagonally behind us that were there before we had arrived. Their places were set but they weren’t eating or drinking and considering how ridiculously quickly our food arrived, it’s our belief they were just ‘there’. Watching us intensely from the moment we sat down down, we found this quite intimidating and uncomfortable.
Avoid.

Let's use your own delusional affirmations to answer you. Given that your level of self-entitlement is such, that you gave yourself, the right to be blatantly judgmental and rude. We will retrieve the favour as we also have such rights.
1. "Inexperienced restauranteurs."
Do you even know who are the restauranteurs you referring to, or you just assuming?
2. "High prices. Very limited, almost laughable “steak” menu"
Well we have 8 proposals 3 of them beef, we have lamb, chicken, fish and tofu as a vegan option . The definition of steakhouse does not convey that we need to have all the cuts you find appropriate, but you had your time to look at the menu and leave.
This only tells us you know very little of the reality of restaurants or you acted in intentional bad faith.
The prices were always there at the menu, and we actually went against the market in January 2023 when we made our prices around 20% cheaper then they were in December 2022. But ok still expensive... Again you had all the opportunity to just leave.
3. "Awful service ."
Well it is quite difficult to properly serve someone that doesn't even know how to place an order or communicates properly with the waiter. Or should all waiter be sidekicks also and realise that when a customer orders a full meal first and only then a wine, that same customer wants the wine right away?
And being the prices so awfully expensive as you claim, it is odd to say the least, that you ordered one of the most expensive Burgundy bottles (that by the way you left without paying also after you ordered, we opened and you drank from it).
We made 2 mistakes, with that we can agree. The main course should have never have come without asking you if you were ready, and we promptly assumed that mistake and offered you to dispose of it and do everything again.
Which you declined and left.
3. "Weirdly there were two quite well dressed gentleman sitting diagonally behind us that were there before we had arrived."
Rather weird is the length of your social inadequacy. These two gentleman were customers, enjoying a meal in our restaurant, just like you, with the same right to look, order and be out in a public space just like you were. Did they in come talk to you or invade your personal space in anyway? They did not, for a fact.
They simply were surprised with the whole bunch of drama you were causing and commented on it with the manager in the end. They felt you were intimidating and rude which made them uncomfortable.
At least they paid for what they ordered.
So you don't like to have people around you, well you have two choices:
Book the all restaurant for yourself or stay at home.
So close off this we just want to say that we are very sorry for a number of reasons:
a) Having accepted your booking. Nothing could have prepared us for the amount of non-sense.
b) We agree with you, people like you should avoid places like our restaurant.
c) Not having called the police on a con-artist like yourself.

We had dinner there last night. First, it's extremely dark. Second, I did not like the music, perhaps young people would like it, but most customers were over 40. Third, the lamb did not taste lamb: the marinade was too strong, so strong that I wondered whether the meat was of good quality. Further, it was very salty, and overcooked. How could it taste lamb? The french fries were extremely salty too. Avoid that restaurant.

Lights and music are part of our strategy and are part of the experience, little we can do for those not pleased with our approach, but fair enough.
The lamb is always icelandic and changes everyweek, sorry you didn't like the marinade.

Ambiance/decor is nice. Food not great - quality of the meat cuts was really poor (worse than you would get in a normal supermarket in most Western European countries) and the meat was bland. Relative to other local alternatives which are 20-25% cheaper, it really is poor in comparison.
They also had a go at trying to overcharge us once they realised we didn’t speak Icelandic. We mentioned how shocked we were about this given our general experience of Icelanders being very honest to the barman at our hotel who said it was infamous for this and a complete tourist trap which locals avoided. Lesson learned!

Most of our Meat is actually from Western Europe. We would like to know what places are 20% to 25% cheaper, maybe the ones selling pizza or burguers. Steaks we strongly doubt.
About the overcharging, must be our detector of non icelandic speakers that detected your presence.
Specially because we don't even have prices standing on the Menu, and we also don't deliver receipts to customers when they ask for the bill, so they can confirm their bill.
About the bartender in your hotel, sure he knows a lot about what goes on in our place, since 80% of our customers are actual locals.
We rest our case.

😡So dark you needed a torch to read the menu and see your food. We were not alone!
My steak was one of the worst I’ve ever been served. Couldn’t cut it even with a steak knife. Absolutely awful. The waiter gave the impression he couldn’t have cared less.
Not recommended
The response from the restaurant leaves a lot to be desired. I cook rare ribeyes at home without them being tough and inedible

Everything about our visit was phenomenal from the service to the food & drinks. I got the 3 course meal (beef capriccio, beef tenderloin, snickers caramel ice cream dessert). It was all so delicious. My husband also got the tenderloin with a side of deluxe potatoes, which were also delicious! Rahul was our server and he was so kind and professional! Would highly recommend this place!!

Hands down the best meal in reykjavik! After 4 nites of over priced underwhelming meals, we came to reykjavik Meat for the 3 course menu. Let me say that there was nothing on our plates that was not delicious! Artic char app. Insanely good. Filet, lamb steak to die for. I would fly back to Iceland just to eat here again! Amazing flavor and 5 star service!
