We went on a Tuesday evening and it was pretty busy and certainly not lacking atmosphere. Contrary to some reviews I’ve read, we were shown to a table quickly and served both drinks and food quickly. Can’t say the food was awesome but for the very reasonable price it was acceptable “pub grub”. Beware the TV screens showing football if you’re not a fan of such bars.

This was a recommendation by a friend so thought with that and the... erm unique name we had to visit. Nice little place, apart from the lean too attached to the buildinh which we thought was a bit of an eyesore, however, this was made up by the interior and the food. Extensive menu and good choice for veggies and carnivores! We started off with 3 different dips with proper home made thin crispy flat bread, generous portions, delish. For mains we choose the burgers, they did not disappoint. I would recommend their Cocktails too! You can always tell when you find a good place to eat by the amount of peeps inside for a Tuesday night. Give it a go!

We found this place by complete chance and then realised that inside one of the free guides we picked up was a 20% voucher off food. We had the fat bastard burger which was lush. Not too badly priced for Iceland. Alcohol is very pricey so worth keeping an eye on that and just enjoy the food.

I went for the Bottomless Brunch with some friends. The food was not bad, the waiters were friendly, the atmosphere was good but I was unpleasantly surprised that you could only order plain coffee, not tea, with the brunch. Have not experienced that before. I sat in a chilly part of the restaurant and eventually asked if it was possible just to have hot water but got a sympathetic no from the waiters. So, for those who take plain coffee with their brunch, this is fine, but for others, not so much.

I won't lie the name is what first attracted me to this place, fortunately the menu was interesting enough that we didn't regret it. The place was deserted on the late July Friday lunch time we visited and we were shown to a table and given menus to peruse. I opted for two Tuna Tacos and my Girlfriend went for the Hummus. Both came quickly and were the perfect size for a light lunch and of course tasted fresh and had rich flavours. Not wanting to appear rude we also had a dessert each, Brownie bits with strawberries tasted great and were as described, but the hot caramel twist was the real find, a warm caramel cake with cream. A Pepsi max and some water each rounded off our order, this in total came to £40.98 which is about par for the course in Reykjavik so not unexpected. A solid recommendation from me and would certainly go back should we be in the area again.

Went here for our final night on a Saturday having seen there was 20% off food on the Iceland Coupon app (I recommend downloading!), when we first arrived around 6pm for happy hour it was packed with only seating available in the outside smoking area, so we went round the corner for happy hour somewhere else and then returned for food at about half 7 once happy hour had passed and was seated inside fairly promptly. From once we sat down our evening was pure bliss, largely thanks to the waiter Leon. We ordered the beer tasting which he then expertly described with a recommended order for consuming - end result is the Bastard Hazy was our favourite so we ordered an extra. For food we had the tuna & foie gras and the Korean bbq wings for starter, both delicious but probably preferred the tuna & foie gras. For mains we had 3 tacos each: fish, pulled pork and beef. All superb, the pulled pork being my favourite and the beef for my partner. We finished off with the caramel roll (which is like a cinnamon roll with caramel) and the white chocolate mouse (which is like a key lime pie flavour). Overall delightful, however Leon was really the star, from his attention and professionalism to his witty jokes and charm - a genuine asset to the restaurant!

The Bastard is pretty easy to see from the road. Not sure what it is that enticed us in but we found our way in to a warm welcome. Not sure about the whole putting people in their seats routine, it is basically a pub. Nice decor. There is a simple menu with some burgers, tacos etc. What they do is good. I had the fat bastard, a 150g burger which was cooked very nicely. A beer equates to about £6.20 and that's for 2/3 of a pint so astonishingly expensive but that's Iceland, as far as I can tell it's the same everywhere. I would have tried their Bloody Mary if it didn't cost a whopping £12.50, I guess that's just Iceland. There's a really nice little area out the back with heaters and blankets. Great if you smoke or vape or just prefer to sit outside like I do. The waiters even took the time to explain why the place had come to be called 'The Bastard'. Enjoyed our afternoon here. Thanks guys!

Cosy, warm, comfy seating and excellent food at a good price- nothing not to like. Great happy hour prices between 4pm-7pm. Food was so tasty.. we had the Camembert with flat bread and then a selection of Tacos which were all delicious. A side of crispy salty and hot French fries ( best chips we have ever had) finished the meal off nicely. Download the Iceland coupon app for 20% off. Meal for two adults and one child plus 2 rounds of beers was £61- great price for Iceland standards

Whilst we had researched our bars in Reykjavik this was the one we wanted to visit and weren't disappointed. We drank and ate here and both were excellent. The Ling fish was the recommendation of our first night and was very well cooked and flavoursome. The next time we visited it was a burger night with a fish burger and a Fat Bastard burger which my husband rated as a "top burger". The Angelica Gin was also very good and reasonably priced (for Iceland) but the beer recommendation went to Hazy Bastard. Overall, an excellent bar and lovely food. I would suggest pre-booking a table if you wish to eat as it did get busy.

Went here after doing my homework as usual, went with friends which made it worse, after I was praising the place so highly. We all ordered food as went mainly to eat. All the meals were a let down, but in particular the burgers, cold, raw and inedible, sent it back and the same one came Bach reheated, but raw and awful. The Tacos came and the pulled pork was stone cold. Such a let down for a nice place. They took the items of the bill, but when will these restaurants realise, that the damage has been done and you leave hungry, disappointed and left looking for something to eat still!!

Excellent bar with a great atmosphere. A good range of quality own brewed beers. We spent an afternoon here on our first day in Reykjavik. Met a fellow couple already there from our flight over, who were great company. Plenty of 80’s and British music playing in the background. The beers were superb, we worked our way through the range of own brewed beers I can highly recommend them “Amber Bastard”, “Hazy Bastard” all excellent. The food is also highly recommended we both had the “Fat Bastard” excellent! The only thing hard to get use to was occasionally popping to the bar to order more drinks to be told no need it’s full table service. If we return will definitely be coming back to this Bastard place! 7 x Beers, 1 x cocktail and 2 x “Fat Bastard” meals came to around £95.00

This place has fantastic food, an upscale but casual and fun vibe, great service, and really reasonable prices for Reykjavik. In my first visit to Iceland I discovered all the traveler tips are true - restaurant meals in Iceland are very costly (as is pretty much everything else). What I did not anticipate is how many restaurants have the normal high prices coupled with poor service and mediocre food. That discovery is what made this place stand apart. During a 7 day visit to Iceland this place had what I considered to be the best food and most reasonable prices. We also had superb service and really liked the cool atmosphere. It’s more of an adult oriented place yet somehow it felt totally comfortable and fun for my kids. Best dinner in Iceland - by far! The only thing I didn’t like was the number of smokers on the patio. We hoped to eat outside but abandoned the idea when we walked on the patio and felt overwhelmed by the cigarette smoke. After shifting to indoor seating we were very happy.

Just had a great meal at this charming place. Had two large tasty burgers, one Fat Bastard and a Double Bastard. And both were amazing. Luckily the Jalapeño sauce was on the side because it was a little hot for my taste. We also had a couple of large Gull Lagers to wash it all down with. The place has a great atmosphere and the staff were very friendly and attentive. It was Happy Hour when we went and I’d found a 20% off voucher from the local tourist guide. The bill came to about 6300 ISK, so roughly £40. Which considering the horror stories we’d heard about Icelandic prices, was more than reasonable. Will definitely go back and try something new next time.

Ambience, service, music fantastic. Best beef burger flavor I had so far in Iceland, The bun is perfect, order it "Not burned" A Pickel, Chunky tomato salsa and a green pepper on the side. Perfect. Ketchup was great, beyond average. The fries were, compare to the burger not really fitting. They were nice and crispy, but still average. I ordered blue cheese sauce in between, served immediately even it was crowded. The starter was tasty but kind of expensive compare what you get. But that's in many places, what is strange for me. Overall a fantastic experience. Thank you

By far our new favourite place to eat in Reykjavik this bar has lively staff, a welcoming atmosphere, great music and fantastic food. The decor is highly amusing and you feel welcome as soon as you walk through the door. It's reasonably priced, especially when happy hour is on. Try the Angelica gin, it's the nicest gin I've tasted. Loved it, and will definitely be back next time we visit.
