We went to this restaurant in March just before Covid restrictions. The seafood lunch buffet was very good value compared to other places in the city. It had a huge variety of fish, salads and other side dishes. It was a great opportunity to try...local fish and fish I have not eaten before. Everything was delicious and you could go up as many times as you liked. The tables are well spaced out and the view is overlooking the harbour. Service was friendly and efficient. I would highly recommend this for lunch.More

You'd expect seafood eaten directly on the harbour to taste deliciously fresh. Sadly, this place will leave a bad taste in your mouth as you learn that they've refused to pay their staff during the coronavirus, leaving many without money for rent or bills. The...fish tasted old and the service itself was terrible. We waited a long time to receive our meal. So disappointing. We won't be back.More

I have been to Messinn on Granda before and loved it, but that was about three years ago. Our lunch yesterday was as good as the first one. At least six fish dishes, different kinds of fish each in their own unique sauce, salads and...vegetables. All good quality and very tasty. Usually, the buffet is self-service, but in these COVID-19 times, a glove-wearing assistant patiently served you with whatever you wanted, but you still felt you could ask for a second helping if you wanted. My companion really enjoyed his apple crumble which was constructed in an innovative way and totally delicious.More

I was at this restaurant about one and a half a year ago and at that time the food was very good, but the service was lazy. Now the food was bad and the service still lazy. Very Disappointing as the food was very good...and the location is very cice, down by the harborMore

After a excellent experience in FlyOver Iceland the family wanted to sit down at a restaurant to have coffee and cake. We went to Messinn at Grandagarður and got a table for 9. We ordered coffee, tea, chocolate cake and waffles with whipped cream. Three...ordered the soup of the day which was broccoli soup. The service was slow, some had finished their cakes when the last waffle was served. I had finished my coffee when my waffle was served. The soup was cold and tasted of fish soup (as if leftover fish soup had been poured in to the broccoli soup) The chocolate cake was ok but the waffles were gluey and tasteless. The service was slow and and passive.More

If you love seafood, fish especially, you will LOVE this restaurant. Their fish were so fresh and delicious, and the variety of how they prepared the fish were absolutely incredible.

This restaurant not only has a wonderful, delicious lunch buffet, it is by far the best deal going in Reykjavik! The regular Messinn restaurant is known for its "fish pans". This lunch buffet fives you a chance to try multiple of the fish pans (the...fish gills are awesome!), soups, bread, salads, vegetables and more. Next time, I will eat hear multiple times on my visit.More

We had our conference banquet there, and the food was really really good. Starters and fish dishes and dessert, even the wine, all excellent. And the setting was lovely. We had all a very enjoyable evening.

I went into the Maritime Museum to wander around and saw there was a restaurant. Checked it out and saw it was buffet style from the two people up there. Liked what I saw and walked up to ask the price - 2.800. Hum....OK. EVERYTHING...is expensive in Iceland. I decided this was going to be big splurge on my last full day in Reykjavik. Noticed several people came in and sat down but didn't figure out right away, that you just get up and go help yourself to the buffet. They will bring a bottle of water to your table. Coffee IS included - go help yourself. I don't drink coffee, so didn't get that. I am a very picky eater and normally never eat anything that I have no idea what it is. I caved here. Catch of the Day was NOT identified! I took one of all the fish dishes and tried eat one. Only found 1 that I didn't care for. Everything else was delicious and prepared in different ways - sliced almonds all over one, etc. This is down in the wharf area. Once done, walked up to the register and paid for my meal and then headed over to the whale watching trip area where I was off to for the afternoon.More
