About
The restaurant is named after Sumac, a deep red berry that grows along the Mediterranean coast and throughout the middle east. The smell of our coal grill will greet you as soon as you enter, where we cook a mixture of meat, fish, and vegetarian dishes. We are also gluten-free, dairy-free and vegan friendly. Our menu can be described as a narration of pristine, Icelandic seasonal ingredients, submersed in exotic spices influenced by mediterranean and Middle-eastern flairs. This is Icelandic cuisine with luscious and inspiring influences mainly from Lebanon and Morocco, while the bar includes wines and spirits from Lebanon, Morocco, new world and old-world wines including organic options, plus

I love Middle Eastern food. Let’s start there. I got the chicken shawarma plate...which was several small pieces of chicken on a skewer, covered in mayo. They call it tahini, but trust me...it was Mayo. That’s it. Nothing else comes with it. Just greasy chicken...More

We went on a whim, and the place was packed (always a good sign on an evening). We had to wait for a table, which was no problem, and the staff were attentive and friendly. The atmosphere is buzzing, and the restaurant has an open...More

Oh my goodness. We stumbled upon this. A little pricey. But the food and drinks were first class. We sat at the bar and were served by Leo. An absolutely amazing and first class experience. Thank you.

We really enjoyed the tasty, well spiced and seasoned skewers. Salad with pomegranate seeds was lovely. Good service. A very reasonable price in incredibly expensive Reykjavík. We thoroughly enjoyed this middle eastern-slanting restaurant.

We had a great anticipation of eating at Sumac as we were visiting Reykjavík for only a few days. The ambiance was fantastic and service excellent especially the sommelier. Our first course arrived and tasted amazing. The main seemed to take a long time to...More

The flavors of Sumac are excellent, everything has a lot of spice, but not too hot. The flatbread with Zatar and pepper dip was awesome. Main dishes were really good and the eggplant dishes were great as was the lamb. On a main street in...More
