Amazing dinner. The entire menu was great and growing up in a Lebanese family, the spices were nostalgic. I did not have a single bad item on this menu. I high recommend the oyster mushrooms. The drinks were fantastic as well.

Sumac Grill should be on the top of your list of restaurants to book if you are planning to visit Reykjavik. It has a lively dining room with open kitchen and excellent staff. We shared three small plates and one larger main, the lamb ribs....If they are on the menu, you must try the oyster mushrooms: amazing flavors and textures.More
Wonderful place! Service was on point, nice open kitchen where you can see the chefs preparing the food. The food it self tasted amazing, well deserved Michelin platte 🙌 Credit to the chef 🙌
This is a lovely place. Great food. Server was very informative. I didn’t eat anything since had a big lunch but “snacked” off everyone else’s plate. The lamb was delicious as was the fish (don’t know what kind). Potatoes were good. As were the chicken...wings. Overall a very nice dining experience.More
Absolutely delicious food, complex flavours and makes a very traditional/typical middle eastern dish extraordinary.
We have been to this restaurant before in past years of visiting Iceland. We are at travelling in this country having come to Iceland multiple times. food was very good as usual, but we encountered a few issues that we did not experience in past...years. The first and most problematic one was related to the ventilation of the restaurant. When we left the place after two hours of being there, we were quick to realize that our clothes and hair smelled terrible. We smelled like smoke and grilling. It was very difficult to remove the smell from our clothes, but we managed to do so, because we had some laundry detergent with us at the hotel, and we did laundry in the sink! It was difficult to conceive of going back there again, knowing that we would be faced with the same exact problem. There was one night where we considered the idea of going back to Sumac to eat there again because we liked the food. The service was very good that night that we were there in July and since we were still in Iceland, in early August, we thought it might be an option to reconsider this place, because we did have generally a good meal there from the point of view of the food. We walked back into the restaurant one evening to see if they had place at the bar. We do not have a reservation, but we know that they do take people at the bar whenever they have space. The first thing that we noticed when we walked in was that the smell of grilling and heavy smoke hit us right at the door. We told ourselves to ignore this, and to see if we could manage to eat at the bar. We went to speak to the hostess and asked her if there was a space at the bar available. We noticed there were many places set with napkins plates and glasses, as well as cutlery, located towards the back part of the bar. We proceeded to walk to the back section of the restaurants towards this part of the bar area, thinking that we should sit where the table settings were. The hostess noticed that we were going to sit down towards the back, and she rudely told us that we could not sit there because this was the “reserved” section of the bar. She then pointed to the area that we could sit at which was towards the front of the restaurant. There were no table settings in this section of the bar, and it was only covered with dirty glasses and empty bottles from the bar itself. She threw the menus down rudely, and it was at this time that we proceeded to walk out of the restaurant. It is unlikely that we will go back there again because the attitude was nothing short of hostile that night, and they’re certainly not fixing their ventilation problem anytime soon. I should note as well that the back section of the bar where they have reserved seating is right next to the grilling area so this would make for a pretty unpleasant night if you had to sit there instead, because there is smoke coming from that area while they are cooking the food. On the whole, this is why I am giving it a one star rating. Given the cost of what you were paying for this kind of food, the service should be a lot nicer, and you should not be walking out of a place smelling like the food that you ate.More
Everything about my experience here was wonderful. We had a short wait for our table, but were able to order drinks while we waited. The restaurant itself is beautiful and thoughtfully designed. The meal was incredible. This was far and away the best meal I...had while in Reykjavík. The service was impeccable.More
Freaking amazing!!! Go!! Sit at the food bar if you’re a foodie!! This was by far our favorite restaurant while in Reykjavik… loved the food and experience so much!! I wish that i could give this more than 5 stars! Was one of the best meals I’ve had in my life (and would consider myself a foodie!). I’m gluten free and traveling can be tough, but the staff was amazing with recommendations and everything...that i ate was absolutely wonderful. My friend and I recommended this to almost every person we interacted with. Can’t wait to go back to Iceland and eat here again!!!More
We actually really liked the food and the place, but all of our clothes and hair smelled SO bad of smoke and grill when we went home! It was so hard to get rid of this smokey smell! Very unfortunate…
This restaurant did not disappoint. The location was perfect, we arrived about 6 pm as it was our first day in Iceland. It was a great time right before the restaurant totally filled up. Our service was amazing and the food even better. We tried...the special sampling meal and were able to eat food we would not have ordered. It could not have been better. The flavors, pace and presentation were flawless.More
Extremely delicious food in a trendy setting. Especially loved the oyster mushrooms and the cauliflower. Lots of flavor!
4 days in Reykjavik and we did not discover this place until our last night here. Strangely enough it was less than a block from our hotel as well. I did find it in an online search and saw... wow it is just a one...minute walk away. We dined here on June 1, 2023. We had no reservation, just walked in and the very lovely hostess greeted us with a smile as we were seated immediately at a table near the bar. We did not get to see the dining room in the back, but we were happy where we were because we had a view through the large windows in front and we could see everyone coming and going from this spot. A lovely couple from Vancouver, Canada (we are from Minnesota, USA) were seated next to us, so we had a great conversation about our mutual experiences in Iceland. Upon entering the place, I was enthralled by the sweet aroma of food cooking on their woodfire grill. I knew the evening would be fine. My wife and I started with an appetizer of Fried Halloumi and a bottle of Rioja wine from Spain. Then my wife ordered the Roasted Cauliflower - with pomegranate, almonds & tahina yogurt. I had the Chicken Shawarma - with zhoug (a Yemini hot sauce), pickled vegetables & Toum ( Lebanese garlic sauce). From our orders, one can easily gather that this place specializes in Mediterranean dishes, They were oh so good and had the special grilled flavor. We were well served and enjoyed our fabulous meal. We finished with a dessert of Dulce de Leche for my wife and Coconut Ice Cream for me which had tahini and apple pieces. We really liked this place. I recommend it.More
Good food, nice atmosphere, and diligent service. I can’t say anything bad about Sumac. Worth a visit when you are in Reykjavik
Saw the cookbook in a local bookstore and was intrigued. Then realized that the restaurant was right around the corner from where we were staying and they had a reservation for our last night. We were delighted with our experience and meal. The food was...fabulous and we wish that we could have tried more items. Really liked the cauliflower, and all the vegetables were very interesting. Great drink menu, I think we amused the wait staff because we tried almost all of the drinks. Bought the cookbook and have already been using it. Highly highly recommend. Might go back to Iceland just for that meal.More
