The food was amazing and the staff was super nice! Highly recommend! We ordered the premium tasting menu and they were super accommodating with dietary restrictions. Just when we thought we couldn’t eat another bite, they brought out an amazing desert tray. Save room for desert!

So far I didn't try many things in this restaurant and my plan is to definitely visit again because my first impression was very good!
For starters we had 'Starter platter' which is served and charged for minimum two people - it consists of 3 meals;
- fresh Icelandic queen scallops with smoked cod roe and champagne vinaigrette
- wagyu tataki in black pepper soya with truffles and spring onion
- yellowtail slices in truffle dressing and green chilli.
All of it was very fresh, full of flavours and soft! Definitely my recommendation!
For mains we had 'Volcano langoustine maki' and 'Sashimi on the rocks'.
Sashimi on the rocks is the highlight of the whole dinner and overall the best thing I have tried in my life when it comes to raw fish. Wonderful flavours, fresh, beautiful presentation and served on the ice which makes it perfectly cold. Just wonderful and my recommendation for everybody to try this.
Volcano langoustine maki was okay but nothing spectacular, probably because the sashimi took me over.
For desserts we had warm chocolate cake which tasted like regular lava cake - it was good, but nothing that stood up, and we also had white chocolate cheesecake which was a bit too sweet for me and I preferred the chocolate cake. It was fine, but nothing special.
Service is good, explains everything, professional, but what I didn't like is that they were bringing meals too quickly, they had to give us some more space between the courses.
Champagne that we had with our meals were good, a bit too strong for me as I don't drink usually.
Toilets were clean and tidy.
Overall perfect place if you are a fish lover like me and want to try high quality fresh fish. Food will leave you feeling very light but satisfied. Definitely coming again!

We ordered the premium tasting menu. Our server, Oddur was excellent! The wait staff was very cordial, punctual and provided great service. The courses were brought out at just the right time. Staff allowed a nice break in between the courses. The food quality and variety were exceptional! The dessert was the grand finale and just blew us away! This was our best meal during our 2 week stay in Iceland. We feel the premium tasting menu was a very good value for the quality of food, considering how expensive food is in Iceland. This meal would be hard to beat in the states. The next time we travel to Iceland, this will be on our to do list!

One of the best restaurant experiences I've ever had. Amazing ingredients, excellent preparation, beautiful presentation, perfect portions, more than enough. (I'm a pretty big guy, and I left stuffed.) Service was friendly and professional.
Seven courses served over approximately 2 hours. Premium tasting menu for 2 plus bottle of wine came to $340 USD, which included service/gratuity.

We were really looking forward to coming here having read the positive reviews and pre checking the restaurant online before coming to Reykjavík. This meal was booked for my partners birthday, we frequent a lot of fish restaurants back in Scotland and we had high hopes for this one.
On arrival we were greeted by a young lady who took us downstairs to be seated. We were sat in our seats without a menu or water for over 5 minutes. A waiter then noticed we didn’t have menus and came over with them.
We were recommended a bottle of wine and requested water. The waiter struggled to get the bottle of wine open then broke the cork. Although this didn’t bother us it set the tone for the rest of the meal. We had to request water again as it was forgotten about.
On to the food, we opted for the fish tasting menu. Ofcourse the first dish came out before the water did.
First dish was tempura prawns, very juicy but quite basic. We were asked whilst eating the first dish if we had received the second dish (scallops) yet. Very odd, it arrived just as we were finishing the first dish.
Scallops in champagne were beautiful but small.
Next dish was sushi, we were disappointed by this dish. The fish lacked seasoning and flavour. The scallop had no taste as did the yellowtail.
We then waited ages for our next course which was the most disappointing dish. This was meant to be the main dish. It was cod, mashed potato and cherry sauce. The dish was tasteless, again lacking flavour and seasoning. We eat a lot of fish and have had some very nice cod dishes at restaurants but this was completely underwhelming.
Our plates were then removed, we awaited the next dish. A waiter arrived with 2 plates of cod again (these were main courses), we mentioned we had already had this dish, the waiter then realised he had the wrong table, this was another service issue.
Duck dish next was lovely and the best. Our dessert later was strange, not only did we ask twice what it was nobody even bothered to ask us at the end of our meal how it was.
The meal in total cost 42,700 ISK. In our country this is £250. In our opinion we wouldn’t recommend Fish market to anyone, keep your money for somewhere that’s actually worth it.

Good food and nice ambiance. Price is higher than other places but the seafood quality is better. Shared a starter platter with hubby and we each order entree with fish. My cod fish was pretty tasty, albeit the mashed potato is a bit salty to my taste. Hubby’s three-fish combo was good too. Had white chocolate cheesecake for dessert, perfect closure for dinner. The Chardonnay we ordered was from 2023 taste fine but young and with elevated price tag, perhaps due to the import tax?
The server was Snorrin, nice young man, attentive friendly and polite, other wait staff were friendly as well.

I think they were short staffed and very busy. We had a reservation and yet waited 15 minutes for our table to be set (and it wasn’t when we were led to it so had to wait a couple more minutes standing next to the table). Most likely the maitre d’ forgot we were waiting. We took the tasting menu and it progressed very slowly to the point where there was a 30-40 minute gap between clearing one plate and bringing the next. The gaps continued and after 2 hours (when we were about 1/3 thru the menu) they offered us a 30% discount - at least they noticed and apologized. The food was really very good so we marked it down only a little for the wait. Normally I would give a 2/5 for such slow and inattentive service. The food would get a 5/5. I hope this indeed was an abnormality.

I had dinner with my wife and a family of friends on December 31st. We chose the 8 course menu. Unfortunately the initial sushi was decidedly poor. The cod is good. Unfortunately then the big inconvenience: probably due to a programming error they ran out of desserts. After waiting for about an hour, they prepared a dish for the whole table (there were eight of us), collecting some fruit and a couple of creams. They are honored by having recognized the error and the discount applied to the final bill

This was my second visit and my sisters first. The last time the food blew my food palate and this time did not disappoint. Nothing compares to this place and I suggest not making this your first foodie spot but your last as most other places will not even remotely compare lol.
Upon arrival, we were greeted and one of the managers delivered 2 glasses of champagne to toast for my birthday. Not many restaurants even read the notes when booking reservations for a special occasion and they not only read it but added a special treat for us.
We had a variety of sushi such as yellow tail, tuna, salmon, scallops and artic char. Coming from the states, the fish in Iceland will ruin seafood for you and this place will ruin seafood for Iceland as it simply is the best. We had lobster soup, bread with whipped butter and salt along with a special birthday desert.
Hands down our fav place in the world to eat. Very surprised they don’t have at least 3 Michelin stars

Absolutely fantastic food! Beat seafood soup ever - served with real elegance as well as flavour! The soft shell crab was to die for, the black cod was a total food orgasm 🥰. Our server Ulfhildur looked after us beautifully and was very engaging and knowledgeable about all the flavours and pairings of the menu. 15/10!!!

As first-timers in Iceland and no knowledge of the restaurant scene in Reykjavik, my family stumbled into this place on a busy Saturday night with no reservation. The host was more than accommodating, getting us seated right away. Our wonderful server, Snorri, was very thoughtful and knowledgeable of the offerings from the menu. The food was delicious and well worth the price point. We will absolutely be coming back to this gem next time we are in Iceland!

An unforgettable dinner. I think their tasting menu is the best I've ever tasted in my entire life. One course better than the other. Very fresh and quality food, cooked and prepared divinely. Dessert is an amazing thing, which concludes an already exceptional and unforgettable dinner at the first appetizer. The staff was friendly, attentive and very nice. Don't be intimidated by the high cost of the menus: for me they were among the best spent money on eating (and not only in Iceland). We will definitely return on one of our next trips here. Highly recommended, it has become our favorite restaurant in town.

Magdalene, our server, was very attentive, without being overly pretentious or intrusive, to our requests. The atmosphere was comfortable and intimate.
The cod, halibut, and salmon were beautifully presented and delicious. I especially liked the salted cod. The meal was well worth the price.

Absolutely off the chart.
We are 'foodies' and take no prisoners when it comes when being absolutely honest with our reviews. Why pay good money for poor food and poor service? We all know how to cook nowadays and if we eat out, when paying good money, we expect a little better than we can do ourselves at home.
We opted for the Premier Tasting Menu and can honestly say, this was an experience we will always remember, so good!
Iceland is expensive, wherever you eat or drink, but this is value for money.
If you stay in Reykjavik, you must eat here.

I was actually really disappointed in this restaurant. First, it took us 45 minutes to get our first course. Our waitress was apologetic and said the kitchen was backed up, but we did notice that other tables continued to repeatedly get additional courses while we were still waiting for our first. I wondered if our waitress forgot to submit the order when we first placed it, but we didn’t make a fuss.
Food:
Extensive wine menu, but I was hoping for some sake. They had about five or six similar styles, but for a Japanese focused fish restaurant, I was hoping for more options, even in Iceland, for a high-end restaurant.
Wagyu buns: very bland meat and toppings on what was essentially a very over priced slider. I think they need to re-think this entire dish as it was severely disappointing and did I mention overpriced?
Squid: actually, pretty tasty and cooked well. Not chewy at all. Small serving, but not bad. Not the best use use sauce I’ve had, but acceptable.
12 nigiri: average at best. Portions of fish were small except for the scallop. The rice was a bit cold and dry, particularly on the outer grains. It almost seemed as if the rice was pre-made into balls and exposed to air for a bit and they added the fish right before serving.
Tuna tataki: fishy and did not taste fresh. Very small portions and thought about sending it back, but wanted to leave the restaurant at this point.
Lobster volcano roll: this was actually pretty good. I still have the same complaints about the rice, but it was masked by the flavorful lobster and toppings.
So the squid and the lobster volcano roll were the only things we liked that we got. My friend and I left hungry, disappointed,
and we ended up getting some tacos and a beer down the street at a pub a bit later.
