The food was pretty good, except for the whale which was really disgusting. It was sort of fatty and gritty. I have eaten and enjoyed camel, reindeer, and alligator, so it's not as if I'm a squeamish eater.
Have a sandwich before you arrive. The...portions are miniscule. My brother got the Char sushi. It consisted of 6 quite tasty strips of sushi for around $55 and nothing else. He wound up quite hungry.
Service ranged from nearly nonexistent to just plain bad. A waitress brought out my entree first, then there was about a 15-minute delay until my brother’s entre came out. This was bizarrely then followed separately by my entrée, and finally his appetizer. When I questioned the waitress about this unusual sequence, her response was “the food is cooked in different places, and we just bring it out when it's ready”. ???
We did have a pretty good bottle of wine, it might have been an Alberino --- I forget. However, once it was poured the waitress never came back to refill our glasses or even ask if were enjoying our meals were going. Then, a male waiter then put the bill on our table before we were even halfway through our meals. After I looked at him quizzically, he took back the bill.
Bottom line, the young ladies who first greeted us and who was running the upstairs bar, were consummate professionals. Everyone else we interacted with acted as if they had been hired that afternoon with no previous restaurant experience.
FYI, Two nights later we ate at Restaurant Geysir (about a 90-minute drive) which was totally amazing.More
