Very nice atmosphere with the piano music playing. The food was very good - fish soup was outstanding (very rich). Portion sizes were quite large and probably the best value we received in the city.

We ended up having lunch (Grilled White Asparagus, Langoustine Salad) here one day and dinner (Arctic Char, Fried Flounder) another. No complaints about any of the food, wine, or beer. The staff was wonderful, as well. The lunch was an especially nice experience, as we...had the place much to ourselves. For dinner we also walked in early and were able to snag a table, but I would definitely make a reservation if arriving after 5pm.More

Subterranean means cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. Great cocktail list. We opted for a Moscow mule and a yummy soft pretzel (how did they know I'm from Pennsylvania?!).

Excellent meal with the kitchen not disappointing. Meals included lamb, seafood, and chicken/lobster. All well executed The price point was very high, so be prepared Setting was nice and staff very helpful The visit didn’t end well as I had sticker shock with the bill....I eventually figured out that 3 entrees were added to the bill. This took a while for me to figure out with language and currency issues. I’d have to say I was extremely disappointed with this as the original bill was nearly twice as much as it should be. I would think the waiter should have some insight into this when ringing through the bill. We then referenced what we ordered and were charged, and took two different reviews on my part as they still missed something a second time. Although they were very apologetic, I would have thought they might provide some kind of recognition for this. None was forthcomingMore

Best creative cocktails in Iceland. Ambiance is good and service as well. Cod and fish of the day (linge) both delicious!

We were able to eat here due to a no-show reservation, and what a bit of luck that turned out to be. The restaurant is beautiful, with live piano music providing an elegant background. Every bit of food we ate at our table was excellent,...and the waiter's recommendations were spot-on. Both the small plates and entrees are generous and delicious. As with most places in Iceland, the fish dishes are wonderful!More

We were visiting Iceland for few days and We decided to try eating at Matarkjallarinn. The food was so good. Each dish better than the other and our waiter Anna Luisa did everything to make the evening a unique experience for us. Recommend!

We were really pleased that we'd booked this very popular restaurant for my husband's birthday. The ambiance was superb with several small cellar rooms. The pianist added to the almost nightclub ambiance. The food was outstanding. As there were six of us, we chose a...variety of starters to share tapas style. The main courses were all excellent and, although I don't usually have a dessert, I couldn't resist the Lion Bar which I loved. The restaurant is expensive, even by Icelandic standards, but well worth it. The service was friendly and knowledgeable. We had a wonderful evening, just slightly marred at the end by the expectation that we would vacate our table thirty minutes before the time given on our booking, which could be seen on our mobile phones. Just one small point that the staff might like to consider – my husband had to brush off quite a few crumbs from his seat before he sat down and it was only on leaving that we noticed that my daughter, who had been sitting on the banquette, had sat on some chewing gum.More

Small cute basement place with a live piano. Food is good and has shades of creativity. Does not have the ambience that this price point should strive for. Decent place nonetheless.

We did extensive research before going to Reykjavic and picked the top restaurants to try for dinner. We ate at them all, and Food Cellar was by far the best. The food was flavorful, the staff friendly, and the restaurant's atmosphere welcoming and enjoyable. If...you like good food, make sure you eat here while in town.More

Very nice restaurant, well located and cozy inside. Food was some of the best we had in Iceland (set menu although the a la carte options looked yummy too). Very friendly and honest staff too. They also do decent alcohol free beer and wine. Definitely...recommend if in Reykjavik.More

We did the 6 course secret menu with wine pairing as an birthday celebration, and what an experience it was! When arriving we was met with smiling and service oriented staff. The dishes was delivered without delay, and information about both the dish and the...wine was given. We got 3 fish/seafood dishes, 2 with meat and 1 dessert, all delicious with exciting combinations and complex flavors. We enjoyed this delicious meal in 3 1/2 hours as we had to take an extra pause to make room for the dessert. You should expect at least 3 hour and be very hungry to go for the 6 course menu. We didn't manage to have all of the last meat dish, so you shouldn't be afraid of not getting full. There was also a piano player who gave a nice atmosphere in the restaurant.More

Hello there are many wines there but wines are very expensive. Beers are probably a better option and the sizes are not too big and able to finish everything.
