We had a very good dinner at Hereford. The location on Laugavegur is convenient, and they are open more evenings than some more exclusive places. Probably if we had done this review right after eating, we would have said five stars, but we later ate...at a few other places that were even better. (Sorry) Our service was quite nice with a personable waitress who helped us with their "fill out the form" ordering process. She was always prompt and attentive. The highlight of the menu was the whale, which tastes a lot like a beef steak. All of the desserts were quite good as well. Overall, a nice dinner. There are just so many great restaurants in Iceland!More

Very good food, both meat and tuna. They had a nice combo that kept the price down a bit. Good atmosphere and about half-full when we were there.

Our tour group went here for out farewell dinner. Had a delicious shrimp soup, bread and butter, steak that literally melted in the mouth , vegetables and a baked potato, theb chocolate lava cake with cream and fruit. The food was excellent ad service was...great. The were mobbed, it was beyond busy but they had enough servers to accommodate such a crowd. The portions could have been a little larger (I can eat), but overall, it was great!More

We opted out of the restaurant's whale and puffin menu, and chose instead some delicious fillets of Icelandic lamb with vegetables and french fries. The lamb was succulent and full of flavour, not fatty, and very tasty. The chips a bit overdone and dry. There...is a wide choice on the menu of both fish dishes and meat. The ambience is very pleasant, a good place to dine at the end of a day sightseeing. Unusually, customers fill in their own menu requests on a form, which is then handed to waiting staffMore

I expected this place to be far better than it was, for the money you expect hot food and the correct order. I would say average at best, but would not recommend.

Just walked in without a booking. Very quickly shown to a table and offered 4 different menus + a beer and wine list. Each item on the menu is numbered for you to pop your choice on a card provided at each setting, also on...the card add any extras. Attentive and polite staff. Expensive by UK standards but the best steaks we have ever eaten. So tender they just pulled apart.More

Had a nice meal here while on holiday. We had the lobster tails and a salad to start. These were excellent. Steaks were good, one was a little sinewy in places, never had that before with fillet, but the rest of it was very good....To order, you fill out a piece of paper and hand to the waitress what you would like, how cooked, etc., Works very well. Tastefully decorated with a pleasant ambiance and the service attentive. There are tables looking out over the main street, Laugavegur, which are nice to watch the world go by. You can have puffin or horse as a main - we stuck with the steaks! Will definitely eat here again when we return to IcelandMore

Best place to go eat out in Reykjavik. Me and my girlfriend went there to have a nice evening together and it was the best ever. Love it. So good lobster soup, perfect beef I had medium rare, and then the desert was perfect.

I wanted to try authentic Icelandic cuisine and this airy restaurant fitted to the bill. The whale steak was meaty in texture, tasted somewhat gamey with a richness and slighty fishy aftertaste, a good steak and one off the bucketlist. The smoked puffin tasted gamey...and was not over powered by the smoking, however it did not stand out as having a particular unique flavour. The dessert of Skyr yogurt was rich and after the meaty main was a challenge. The waitress was extremely knowledgeable and gave recommendations and insight into the local dishes. Not a cheap meal, however tasty and competitive considering the price I paid for average food in Reykjavik; recommended for a taste of local cuisine and a good meal.More

Service was okay, Food was okay. Would not recommend the beef filet, because the quality is not good enough. Meat could have been more tender. Beef tenderloin was very good though. Sadly my friend ate it, not myself.

Walked out when we saw whale and puffin menu. Whale isn’t even a traditional Icelandic dish and is just on the menu to serve tourists. It’s not even Icelandic whale.

I took my wife there and we both ordered a 3 course meal. Lobster soup, steak and a chocolate cake for dessert. Every thing was delicious and the service was great.

I was totally surprised and pleased to hear from the restaurant after I posted my initial review regarding our payment issues. They were shocked the issue had not been mitigated and took immediate action. Today I received a refund in the mail. Thank you so...much and I'm sorry if my review caused any problems. I now understand it was a matter of missed communications on your end.More

This restaurant is one of my favourites. I’ve been living here 3yrs and Hereford is always the first place to pop into my head. It was my birthday today and we reserved a table and I was so worried I was going to eat too...much before. Worried because I wanted to make sure I had all the stomach space for every bite of food. We were not disappointed. I ordered the surf n turf which was not my usual order, and my boyfriend got the beef fillet. We weren’t able to finish, but we took the rest home to enjoy (like right now). I’ve never written a review before, and the reason I am writing this is because the service we received was impeccable. The waiters personal service and attention made me both feel special and at home. I fully recommend this restaurant for anyone looking to dig into a good steak and to celebrate any special occasion. Their dessert is to die for!More
