I decided to pop in for brunch earlier today, the 11th of July, with my 80 year old grandmother and her friend. No one spoke to us when we walked in but it was very busy. I went to the register and asked if they...had anything free, she said just outside and ran off.
I saw a table inside was nearly finished so I went to the waitress again and asked if we could wait for this table since they were cold and did not want to sit outside. She just looked so confused and then ran away while I was in the middle of speaking and mumbling something I couldn’t understand, think she was trying to speak Icelandic. So I caught her again and asked what she said when she ran away and she just said in broken Icelandic “i don’t understand”. I pointed out how extremely rude it was to run off from customers who are in the middle of speaking to you but she didn’t understand why that was rude. Really horrible waitress so we left. Should teach their staff to listen and speak to customers and if they don’t understand Icelandic to say so because I could have easily spoken English with her if she had given me the chance. This was always the same waitress, short with short nearly black hair in a braid and with colored eyeliner, spoke no Icelandic. Only reason we left was her because they food looked good.More
Gooooood Food. We had the Taste of Akureyri as an appetizer and was a great way to sample some different foods. Whale, Seabird, Lamb, Smoked Cod and one other that I can't think of. Dinner was excellent also - Plaine fish dinner - thumbs up!
We were looking for a sit down breakfast locale here, and found the Berlin Cafe open in or near the town center. Eyeing the quiche as a breakfast item, at first we thought it might not be available as a breakfast item based on their...offering it on the lunch menu. We asked about having it for breakfast and they accommodated us. It was a vegetable quiche with salad, and was loaded with vegetables, sprinkled with grated cheese. The salad has a nice herbal garlic dressing. All was totally yummy, good for us, and reasonably priced (for Iceland). Service was friendly and cheerful. We felt lucky to have stumbled onto this cafe.More
I first had their egg and toast breakfast and was so happy with it that I returned for lunch where I had the Indian salad and my son, the arctic char, both of which we liked. This seems to be a reliable place to eat,...which can be a rarity in tourist spots.More
