Dining is expensive anywhere in Iceland, so the service level is paramount to a fine dining restaurant. It was raining/snowing really hard that night and we lived in the hotel across the street. Perfect place to get something to eat. Initially trying JP food in Iceland was not our first choice, but Rub 23 did not disappoint us. Everything is nicely cooked and presented, and the service was very good. As JP food lovers, we are surprised that we could find this kind of quality JP food here, not authentic but full of Icelandic character. Make sure you make reservations.

We went to this restaurant due to great Google recommendations. We came very late in the evening without a booking. It appeared that this evening was some special day for Icelandic people, and the restaurant was full. However, they managed to give us a table and very quick service. We ordered various sushi rolls and sushi pizza. Actually we were very sceptic because sushi pizza sounded like some cheap thing for kids. It was very good and not like a regular pizza :) the sushi quality is high here, based on fresh and good quality fish. The sushi style is Nordic style and not Japanese. However, it tastes good! Service was excellent, and fair wine prices. A lot of reviews comment that this place is expensive. It is not. We paid around 140 Euro for a good bottle of riesling, 2 glass of riesling plus 8 dishes. Anything like this would be far more expensive in the other Nordic countries. Good quality fish is never cheap. If you like fish and enjoy quality food, you will probably enjoy this restaurant.

When I'm asked what is the best place for fine dining in Akureyri, I usually say Rub23. Now that I hadn't been there for quite some time, I wondered if anything had changed. But I was glad to find out that nothing has changed. The food and service was excellent. The young woman serving our table was professional and came with good suggestions regarding food and wine. Not all restaurants today have staff that know what they are talking about and are interested in what they are doing. My rib-eye steak was perfect, accompanied with fried vegetables, potatoes and gravy. My friends had really nice sushi and a brilliant wagyu beef that you fry on a hot stone by yourself. I don't have anything negative to say about our visit, but the owners might want to spice up the furnishing, decoration and atmosphere. Full house.

I have visited Rub 3x in the past year. Always hoping for something to change as some people recommend it. Charging Kr.6.000 for chicken with sweet potato and a pinch of salad says everything you need to know about Rub. Service is abysmal if they are busy i.e. cocktails arrive with the main course, appetizers arrive with the main course.... The reason why this is not a 1 or 2 star review is because the fusion sushi is not bad.

I went for a 3 course menu with a sushi dish as starter that turned out to be a pleasant ride for the tastebuds but when I got to the steak was hard to get trough, stressed beef there and hard to chew on, lacked preperation for the ultimate ride, the dessert was pleasant but small and the service was a bit like listening to a robot describing what was to come or "get it over with" description. Unprofessional for the price so there was nothing there that I couldn't find in Berlin for half the price I got there. They might be able to do better some days, obviously some talent there, but as often before, Icelandic restaurants lack consistency in quality and what I got was just an average meal, average service for a price that would on a good day pay a ticket for me to Berlin and Amsterdam. Wish I had done so this time...

Walking around town, having difficulties finding a restaurant without a reservation, Rub23 offered us a table for an hour, Plenty of time to devour the most amazing Japanese food. Had combo of the torched beef and fish, the Bubba No Gump, and some Nigiri salmon and tuna, together with a nice warm sake. Service was excellent.

The sushi served here are Icelandic styled. They primarily use local fish such as arctic chad, yellowfin tuna, and cod. They also make quite original and fun sushi such as deep fried maki or sushi with squid ink, or they even use mango. It’s very tasty and a quite fun experience. Great service. Price is very expected for a sushi place so quite steep but not overkill by Icelandic standards.

Sorry to say but we left this place feeling very disappointed after reading so many good reviews. The starter "smoke infused scallops" was ridiculous small (2 very tiny scallops with 2 very mediocre executed small shrimps for a €23,5 price tag). The main courses where average at best (Robata grilled salmon & Arctic Char magic pepper rub). We regretted not going (again) to the nice Strikid restaurant with an excellent salmon dish (and a lovely balcony view) or (for those on a tight budget) the excellent Pylsuvagninn hotdog stand (at 105 Hafnarstraeti) with a great selection of very delicious hotdogs (also vegan!) with crazy toppings (definitely try them!)

We went two couples. We ordered fish. The guantity of the fish was exactly like two small matchboxes. Can't feed a human. The taste is unknown because the strong sauce. The vegetables was good. The prices for each plate is around 37 USD. After the restaurant I went home and ate a toast with turkey and tomato. Delicious!!!

I got one of the "tasting menus" but found it a bit lacking. First, the appetizer portion sizes were smaller than what the waiter had told me they'd be. Although the appetizers were tasty, the main course was a bit unexciting. Service was lacking and the decor feels dated. Overall, it's inferior value.

While touring the wonderful country of Iceland, we had the good fortune of being treated to a fine, fine dinner at Rub23. Dining almost anywhere in Iceland is expensive so you can count on it here too. However, the food here was as good as I have had anywhere. We would definitely return.

Best place to skip, go rather to Centrum Kitchen & Bar. Ordered Icelandic ribeye at Rub 23 it was not well prepped, lots of tendons that was difficult to cut. The service in beginning was unprofessional but was saved by nice young server that took over service. I recommend you to go to other restaurants in Akureyri.

We went without a reservation on a Sunday evening and they seated our large party comfortably. We had cocktails and entrees with wine. Several had steaks (rib eyes) and were very happy. They were huge! Others had chicken, fish, and vegetarian options and all left happy! We did not try the sushi but they had a fairly extensive menu. We also opted to stop for ice cream on our walk back to the hotel rather than try the desserts.

Went with a group of four, my first time. The Sushi pizza was recommended to me, I was skeptical at first but decided to give it a go and was not disappointed! It was like a party for the taste buds! For the main course I had the "Arctic Char magic pepper rub" and it was also great. Somehow everything was tasty, even the cauliflower and the salad. The sushi pizza was indeed so good that two of us had another serving of it for desert. Can't wait to get back to Akureyri asap to have some more sushi pizza! Service was great, and even some special requests were accommodated that weren't necessary. The restaurant is slightly pricier than normal but nothing out of the ordinary..

Superb fresh seafood, the sushi options were every bit as good as you get in Japan. The fish platter was superb, everything was so fresh and the scallops were huge and perfectly cooked. Good wine selection. Not cheap, but this is Iceland!!
