We had great fish. We absolute loved the fish. Also the waitresses were friendly. Free water. We can recommend this restaurant.

We enjoyed a relaxing dinner at this restaurant. It is clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Menu is extensive offering pizzas, burgers and local dishes. We had a salad and salt cod. Both were very good. Salad ingredients were fresh. The salt cod was moist, tasty...and nicely prepared. Portions were generous. Cocktails were good as well. Chocolate cake & ice cream were well worth the extra calories. Service was friendly and attentive. Staff warmly welcomed us as soon as we walked in. They checked to make sure we were ok throughout dinner. A nice place to have dinner after a long drive.More

Traditional tourist restaurant and menu. Soup of day, salat, pizzas and burgers. Position is a bit outside the centre, and not worth the trip as such. Overpriced but you can eat as you like from the buffet.

Before this visit, I had not eaten at Greifinn for 15 years. I remember coming here with a group of friends in 2004 and I remembered I was not too happy with the experience. Why exactly was forgotten. I'm a resident of Reykjavik but regularly...visit Akureyri and I kept seeing recommendations of Greifinn as a good family friendly option, and knowing there aren't so many restaurants aimed at families I decided I'd go there with my 9 year old son during his winter break from school, thinking whatever bothered me 15 years ago was surely fixed by now, especially because of all those recommendations. However, I was only reminded of what put me off originally. First of all, the prices are ridiculous. To pay almost 33 dollars, ISK 4.090, for a 12" pizza is crazy. That's just a fact. We did not order pizza though, but in total three burgers. Which cost from 24-28 dollars each. The time between ordering the burgers and receiving them was suspiciously short. And it turned out my burger, with bacon and an onion ring, was not nearly as hot as I would normally want my food. My mushrooms on the burger were cold and so my fries were lukewarm at the best and so was the bacon and onion ring. The top bun had probably been sitting out, as it was very dry and felt stale in addition to being cold. My patty was pretty tiny, it looked like a 90 gram burger and not a 120 gram and had no taste whatsoever. The "spiced ketchup" unfortunately added no taste, perhaps because there was only about a teaspoon on the top bun. So to sum up; dry, lukewarm and tasteless burger and fries. My partner was not satisfied with the quality of his steak sandwich (ironically named "indulge" sandwich), though his fries were at least hot. I award the two stars to the staff, the atmosphere of the place and because the food was good enough to the standards of my 9-year-old. The staff was warm and welcoming and as we were paying (a total of 75 USD, 9.350 ISK, for 3 burgers and a box of juice) we did say that our food was not up to par and they seemed sad about it and offered my son an ice cream which made him very happy. They hinted we could have gotten new burgers, but to be honest we didn't really see the point because if the burgers are tasteless like they weren't even seasoned, it just feels like a quality problem instead of a one-off mistake. Everything is overpriced in Iceland and I feel especially in Akureyri, maybe because there is less competition. And more difficult to get quality meals in restaurants, probably because of the same reason. However, I will not be overcharged again in Greifinn as I will unfortunately not return and now for good.More

Everything we ordered was decent, not fabulous but decent. i will say that the garlic bread was wonderful. I would have been happy with just soup and the garlic bread. A few of us ordered the lobster soup, again was good but not great. Others...ordered the fish hash which they enjoyed. The menu is large and varied, everyone should be able to find something they like. The prices were average for Iceland. The service was fine and the restaurant was fresh and modern.More

My daughter had the potato and bacon soup, delicious and chunky. Huge portion. I had the mushroom soup. Very good but would have liked larger mushroom pieces in it. Good flavor. Both came with delicious home made bread and olive tapenade. My son like his...chicken the mushroom pasta, a good size portion and my husband enjoyed his seafood salad. For Iceland, the prices were reasonable. The service was very good.More

Not long ago I heard someone saying that when you visit Akureyri you don’t leave without eating at Greifinn. Having already been there twice before while travelling on summer vacation I thought to myself, how come I have never enjoyed eating there? It admit it...has been a while since my last visit so I couldn’t remember exactly why I was unhappy then. I am a fairly easy person to please, service wise, and I don’t even mind when people screw up my order as long as the food is decent. So, when driving through AK City this weekend I decided to give this iconic place another chance. I even checked the menu online beforehand, noticed that the prices were a bit high for this type of “burger/pizza” joint but went anyway, determined to leave with a smile. Well, I’m sorry but this was so not worth it. When glancing through the menu I saw lobster soup. Then I remembered that (being a major lobster soup enthusiast) I had the soup last time and it was not good. If I remember correctly it was bland and way to floury. So I went for the pizza this time. Our order consisted of three pizzas, a burger and a kid’s meal. The kid was extremely happy with his dish (Hot Dogs & Fries) but the rest of us were really disappointed. The burger was an overcooked little piece of meat that should have been categorized as a kid’s burger. The pizzas were 10” pre-made crust and you could feel that the quality of the ingredients just wasn’t there. Also, they were put together in such a messy way with the cheese sprinkled on top which resulted in burnt cheese and dry tasting pizza. They reminded me of the frozen pizza section in a British convenience store. The pizzas cost around 3000-4000 ISK each which I am still trying to wrap my head around! Not even the best italian pizza places in downtown Reykjavík charge this much! Honestly guys, what the hell?! The service, however, was fast and the people that had our table were really nice. But I’m afraid this is my last visit to Greifinn. Totally overrated, mediocre food and ridiculously overpriced.More
