Cold burgers and lukewarm soda - taking 90 minutes to get food

Once this was our favourite restaurant when we were visiting Akureyri. Last summer we had a bad experience but we decided to give it a try again during our visit this week. We had ordered a table but it was not ready - but it was only a short wait. When at the table, we got our menus and ordered. The sodas arrived quickly. They had no ice and were "still" (no bubbles). The three different types of burgers we ordered arrived 45 minutes later. The starter we had ordered to share and asked to get it at the same time as the main did not arrive. We asked for it and were told they were just about bringing it to the table. After we had eaten our burgers we asked again for the starter. We were told it was about to arrive. Twenty minutes later, we asked again. The waitress said it took 20 minutes to prepare, but we told her the main course had arrived 40 minutes earlier! She left again and came back and told us, it really was in the oven and about to arrive. They would not charge us for the starter. Finally, it came and was really good. But we had finished the soda and were not really in the mood for a starter which we had ordered 90 minutes earlier. We just tasted it. About the soda, when we got it, it was flat and without ice. When the food arrived 45 minutes later, it was not very tasty and then the starter arrived 45 minutes after that, it was not drinkable. The burgers looked great, but they were really thin, completely cold and the cheese so cold it could be broken. The fries were tasty but lukewarm. When we got the bill, it turned out we were charged $ 3 for changing the type of sauce with one of the burgers. We had planned to have a bite there before continuing our trip. It took almost two hours to get one main and one starter. We were charged $85 for this (excluding the starter). When we left, we were feeling disappointed and robbed of time and money.

Relaxing dinner

We enjoyed a relaxing dinner at this restaurant. It is clean, spacious and nicely decorated. Menu is extensive offering pizzas, burgers and local dishes. We had a salad and salt cod. Both were very good. Salad ingredients were fresh. The salt cod was moist, tasty and nicely prepared. Portions were generous. Cocktails were good as well. Chocolate cake & ice cream were well worth the extra calories. Service was friendly and attentive. Staff warmly welcomed us as soon as we walked in. They checked to make sure we were ok throughout dinner. A nice place to have dinner after a long drive.

Lamb steak which was melt-in-the-mouth!

We visited the restaurant on a busy sunday evening and had popped in and booked a table the day before. The staff were welcoming when we arrived and showed us to a bright and airy table in the middle of the restaurant. They provided colouring pencils and a small puzzle booklet for our little treasure. We had Mexican tomato soup and lamb soup for starters then we ordered lamb steak, which came with buttered new potatoes and roasted vegetables. Other half had burger which was large, hot, and it came in a potato bun which was soft and pillowy. Our little treasure had pasta which came with lots of pasta sauce and was very good. It was a large portion and it came with garlic bread. The meal was relatively expensive but, the food tasted and looked gorgeous with every dish being well presented and the staff were courteous and friendly with a couple of questions that we had. It’s very homely in atmosphere and it deserves to be one of the better rated restaurants in Akureyi as it was slick and professional yet friendly.

Unacceptable quality for price and faulty facility

I used to go there while living in this town over 20yrs ago so I looked forward to bring back some memories but the strong old pizza menu was pretty lame compared to what used to be so me and my friend went for the steak menu. The price was moderate, looking fine from the menu but the quality was just average or slightly below but what bothers us immensely was the heat in there, we were sweating horribly because there was obviously no air conditioner running but this was after a hot day in Akureyri. The service was rather quick but on "fast food quality level" so overall it was just not worth the price.

Overprized place for fast food quality of food. Completely unacceptable!

While looking at the menu, the prices were quite high so we expected high quality of food but instead, we got some fast food that was not even tasty and on top of that quite cold and we needed to send the food back. None of us was happy with the food, and we were of a group of 10 people. It was such a disappointment in food for way too much money. Don't recommend going there. The place does not even have a nice atmosphere.

Completely ruined the day

We went to Greifinn for dinner with our five kids, my parents in-law and two uncle to have a nice evening out. Our 5 year old happened to have won a big pizza and 2L soda that he was going to invite his brothers to share with him. When taking our order the waiter told us that we couldnt have the soda on the table because 2L was only for takeout. We were surprised since the gift card did not say it was only for takeout. After little discussion it was solved that we would get the big pizza but we had to buy sodas in glasses and take the 2L soda with us home. Little bit stupid but Ok and bit funny. Then after reasonable waiting the food started to arrive to the table. But then a second waiter came and said that we could not have the big pitsa to our table because they couldnt serve it to us in a paperbox or on a plate. We were very surprised and asked why and she said that our sons gift card was only for takeout (nothing on the card says so, only that you can not use it for homedelivery). She even asked to see the gift card ( we had already showed it two times before when we were ordering) to point us out that this was only for takeout but it didnt say so on the card so she looked kind a stupid when she returned it. We argued that this was not acceptable and if they were not going to give us the pizza then what should the three boys eat then? She said they could make small pizza for them and we could take the big pizza with us. But all others on the table had already gotten there food so they would then have had to wait for their food for who knows much longer. The waiter that was saying this all to us was incredably rude and offended us so much that she completely ruined the evening. We even talked about just leaving. Then we could finally convince the rude waiter to bring the pizza in slices on three dishes. We then ate and every body were in a bad mood. No waiter came after that to our table. Nobody asked if the food was Ok, if we needed more drinks or water or if we wanted deserts or coffee. We were left completely alone in the side hall of the restaurant. We ate and then left. The waiter that I paid at the register was the only good thing at this restaurant. She was sorry when I told her how we felt, she offered a discount of the bill and free cheese sticks to take home which we did not want (the sticks). We are not going to Greifinn again especially since this is not the first time it is not Ok. Once we got live bug running over one of the plates, it came from the salad. And one time we got an red onion in a burger that had not been peeled. But we have been returing customers because even though the food has not always been perfect the service has been good to excellent until tonight. The angry waiter at Greifinn destroyed my five year old happiness about winning a gift card for pizza and soda. She ruined our nice family evening with my parents in-law. All because the waiter suffers from "computer says no" syndrome, no will at all to assist and make the best out of Greifinn own mistake. You can see the gift card in attachment.

Go and experience what the locals are doing...

This restaurant seems to be serving mainly locals, and being fully booked it was turning a lot of people away. The food was generally good, although my pasta was overcooked. I noted most of the families around us were eating Pizza. Service was good, and the establishment kept up with the high turnover of patrons so is clearly well run.

Worst burger of mi life captain!!

Man. This place is a trap. Traphouse of mediocre food. Literally the worst burger of my life. Plus the most expensive too. Dry. Sour. Cold bun. Sauce from store. Bun from store. Meat ( not sure beef/chicken/hamster) but they do serve it on a fancy plate. Everything insanly high priced concidering the quality. Everybody on our table hated everything about it. There was one waiter though that was nice. Just that one though The most basic food you can find in all iceland with fine dineing price

Hidden Gem Family Restaurant at Akureyri

After eating at "tourist" restaurants during our travels in Iceland, we were very happy to have stumbled across this hidden gem in Akureyri. Located a little north of downtown on Hwy 1, Greifinn is anything but a "Grief Inn". Great menu selection, with bar service. A family restaurant frequented by locals, we felt very welcomed here. A nice respite from the tourist restaurants in downtown Akureyri. The happy staff here indicates that good food and service in on its way.

The food was great and the staff were so helpful. Me and my family went out. Also i am a bit of a Scrooge so that's why we went there because it has a great price range and it was not that expensive. Overall great experience highly recommend that people go there

Not worth it

What a disappointment. The place looks good, they have a nice kids corner and the service is friendly even though they were very busy. We were a party of three. One of us got the wrong order and did not get the right one until about half an hour later. I got the crispy chicken burger which was cold, not crispy at all and didn’t taste good. The chicken was probably reheated, bread crumbs were soggy and it really looked as the ones we buy from the freezer at the store. The chicken itself actually tasted weird. None of us finished our burgers since the were nothing special, this was 11 thousand ISK down the drain.

Good staff, ok pizza

Last time I was here with my family two years ago, back then staff was very rude and unfriendly, but this year that change! Staff was really nice and kind, helpful with our kids, really big change! Pizza is still just OK, if this place is in south Europe with this kind of pizza then will not be successful at all. Bad quality of mozzarella, bad dough… very typical pizza for icelandic food standards.

Best meal in Akureyri

We had the best dinner here while in Akureyri. I had the beef, my son had the risotto, and my daughter the pasta. The service was great as the waitresses were always ready to take care of us. The place is clean and everything was up to par. Highly recommend.

Another bonus to our Icelandic experience

Our host of the guest recommended this restaurant among others. We had the Chicken Pasta and the King Prawn Salad. Both dishes were really nice. Quickly served and plenty of food. The pasta could have been a bit warmer. Restaurant was crowded, not too romantic, more a family restaurant. All in all a good experience.

Unacceptable service

Please be advised if you want á sloppy service, inappropriate attitude and money wasted, then Greifinn is your place. Asked for a service for my son over the phone and the incapable staff blew it big time. As he was leaving, 2 hours after he had arrived, and one phone call from me someone at the “restaurant “ woke up but then my son was leaving. Crappy restaurant, crappy service. Be advised.
