Great service, tasty food and plenty of variety. We had both lunch and dinner here and both were excellent. A must if you’re visiting Akureyri

We had a stop in Akureyi on a recent cruise and we had lunch here. One of the best Fish & chips we've ever had!

The meat quality is good, we had lamb chops, burger and chicken wings. The number of lamb chops is a little low: 4 chops are scarce, 5 would have been more fair for the price but also for calling it a dinner. The spirit of...the place is a little commercial: french fries are everywhere and dishes have a catchy taste. Overall is a good place though. Prices are on the norm with Iceland.More

We ate here tonight and can honestly say the food was terrible, I ordered the fish soup and figured you really can't screw that up but they managed, nothing but nothing but mostly watery crap. My wife had the burger and enjoyed it, I sent...the soup back and had a side of fries, but they were lousy and obviously old and re-heated. Save your money,More

We had to wait for. 15 min outside until we finally got seated. Note, we hadn’t reserved before. When you enter Bautinn you get hit by the smell of the BBQ - and you will smell then same when you exit;) We had RIbs (fell...perfectly off the bone), fried chicken (loved it), Fish & Chips (really good) and Lamb chops (not bad). The deserts are heavy and yummy, too. Nothing fancy, but a heaven if you like the heavy stuff.More

On our way around Iceland we made a stop in Akurerey for dinner. We had one fish soup and two fish & chips. The fish soup was just OK for the price (just over 2000 ISK)... at least there were fish in it. It was...way worse with the fish & chips, which were 70% breading and 30% fish. It cost nearly 4000 ISK/portion. The fries were like elastic bands. Worst scam ever. We even had to wait 25 minutes for this. The single star is for the waitress only.More

They treated us in very rude manners without reason. The waitress was already in a bad mood, I understand that being busy can be stressful but doesn’t legitimate you to treat customers unkindly. Very upset.

Really old fashioned restaurant. A limited menu with Tex mex or whatever unrecognized variety to choose from. Didn’t enjoy the food neither the service.

Hearty portions. You won't go hungry here. Fish and chips with light batter was fabulous. Chicken tacos (5) were crispy fresh and delicious. Boneless chicken madness was just perfect. Lovely atmosphere and surroundings in the conservatory where we were able to watch the world go...by outside. Service a little slow, aloof and haphazard but we were not in any rush. We did not feel rushed to vacate our table even though it was a very busy Saturday evening.More

Service was good but place has gone stale over the years. Or maybe it always was stale, I’m not sure. Either way, me and my colleague were left unimpressed by the enchilada and burger we got for lunch. Ingredients tasted preprocessed and bland 😕 Would...not recommended for anyone who’s looking for a wholesome, made-from-scratch meal or a culinary experience. We had a hair-in-food incident but waitress swiftly offered us a new dish and kindly added discount for the inconvenience.More

We grabbed a quick order of tacos since we arrived late and we’re very pleased with the food quality. We decided to return the next night for a more normal dinner and again we were very happy. The fish soup was amazing and plentiful. The...staff was great and I would highly recommend trying this place.More

Visited for a late lunch with my husband on 14th May 2022 and we had the misfortune (or as it happened were fortunate) to be seated opposite the serving counter. We witnessed meals sitting on the serving counter for long periods of time, waiting to...be taken to customers. The 3 waitresses were not rushed off their feet just disinterested. We thought at the time that the food waiting to go out must be part of larger orders, but that wasn't the case. One burrito, which we ended up nicknaming Billy, sat on the counter for over 20mins. (we were particularly interested in it as that is what my husband had ordered) Billy the burrito waited alongside plates of burgers and fries, ribs, and tacos. A falafel salad then arrived on the other end of the counter (which is what I had ordered). 45 mins after placing our order and 10 mins after the falafel salad had been placed on the counter, a bored and unhurried waitress picked up Billy the burrito from one end of the counter and the salad from the other and brought them to our table. We told her we didn't want a burrito that had been sitting there for 25mins and to her credit she didn't bat an eyelid and swapped it for another one on the counter (which had only been there for 10mins). My salad was OK, as was my husband's burrito, but nothing special. If we had not been sitting in that particular table, we would have just thought the service was extremely slow, but to witness the food being ready and just not taken to tables was unacceptable. I repeat, the staff were not rushed off their feet, they just stood around looking at the food.More

Friendly staff, great menu choices, delicious, freshly prepared, hot food. We didn't feel even though the restaurant was beginning to get busy. Only complaint was tables on enclosed veranda were quite close together. Would definitely recommend eating here.

Did not have them a 5 just because we only had ice cream. Staff, very attentive, nice decor/ambience. Ours friends ordered chicken tacos and they liked it (notice she claims to be an excellent Mexican food cook).

We visited Bautinn in 2013 along our first road trip through Iceland and enjoyed some very traditional staples on their menu: Minke whale, lamb, and langoustine soup. However, on a recent return to Iceland, it appears their entire menu may have changed to be much...more generic and quite disappointing. Maybe there has been new ownership? Restaurant consultant? Or maybe they felt the need to cater to tourist preferences….(e.g., onion rings, Tex-mex, sticky Asian wings, etc). Unfortunately, we did not like the shift. We did try a plate of the Spicy Sweet Fries to be polite, and they were great. I don’t think the execution in the kitchen may have been impacted as much as the decision to shift to more “marketable” menu options; none of the dishes we originally had are in the menu. If you’re into an “Applebees,” you’ll probably love Bautinn; however, if you’re looking for some Icelandic staples, look elsewhere.More
