My husband and I stopped into this town to see the lighthouse and the lighthouse keeper told us about this restaurant. We were so welcomed as we walked in. The menu is on the wall and it’s almost a Buffet… just a beautiful beautiful lunch...we cannot see more about this place!!!! I had creamy mushroom soup and a salad bar but the salad bar had many different choices a cold broccoli salad which was delicious, A red cabbage salad with sesame oil a regular green salad and so so much more!! My husband had a hot lunch which was three slices of Icelandic lamb in a brown gravy with probably four different sides if he wanted them. If you are in this town please please do not miss this restaurant it really was one of the best meals that we had of our entire trip in Iceland!!!!!! And by the way dessert comes with your meal as well , chocolate mousse , we were too full so the friendly server packed it up to go for us!!!!More

We dropped in after hearing about this place from friends. We were made to feel very welcome as soon as we came in and given details about the menu and specials. We both had the daily special, which was very nice, with a salad buffet...and optional soup and coffee. Everything tasted very nice, I tried the soup which was very well seasoned. The staff was very friendly and the establishment very cosy. We’ll definitely return!More

Due to blizzard conditions we had to take a detour and what a gem we found! The drive, the tunnel, the countryside was enough to fulfill an other-wards disappointing trek. This restaurant did not disappoint, great service and the food was meticulous. Rare to find...the passion that went into the details of every dish. Highly recommend anything on the menu. The service was spot on.More

The bistro is easy to get to and convenient if you are visiting the lighthouses of Akranes. in a nut shell: excellent food and selection with wonderful service staff. The bistro was also very clean with special attentions being given to disinfecting surfaces since it...was during the very beginnings of the corona virus pandemic. There were four of us (three women and one man, myself) so we were able to get a variety of dishes from a wide selection. Be aware that the portions are very large. Two could easily have split each serving. In addition to the wonderful fish, lamb. and lobster dishes, the vegetable options were very delicious. Lobster bisque was rich and needed some good wine to cut the richness- this was easy to do. Salmon and cod were prepared to perfection.More

We had a late lunch, the restaurant was open and welcoming. It was 10 out of 10 lunch. The food was great, wild mushroom risotto followed by pan seared salmon. Fantastic service and amenities.

We were staying not far from Akranes so decided to stop here for a late lunch. The food was so delicious we decided to come back the next night for dinner! There are some very interesting, tasty flavor combinations. For lunch my husband had a...burger and I had the cod, which was outstanding. The next night for dinner we both had the lamb - so flavorful! The staff was very friendly and attentive, too. Highly recommend!More

We have visited Iceland before and so one of the days on this visit, we took a route less travelled towards Akranes. We were amazed to come across this superb restaurant. Not only was the food of the highest quality, a warm and welcoming atmosphere...but also the person who served us was so helpful and answered many of our questions about life in Iceland. She as passionate about her culture and so very interesting. She even gave us some typical Iceland 'delicacies' to try such as dried fish with butter and sheep head. It was more than just a dining experience. I cannot recommend it enough and hope to visit again one day.More

Wow! A truly excellent meal at a very reasonable price. Full of locals. Always a good sign. Better than many higher class eateries in UK, like the Ivy, this food was better. We were getting fleeced in Reykjavik for eating out, then you travel out,...through the tunnel to a small town with 7000 people (first inhabited by the Irish) and find a lovely people so polite and friendly, Joseph, Selma, really looked after us. My wife's 50th. Big gamble but really pleased we did it. Northern lights are better here too!More

Spending a couple of nights in Akranes there's limited options for dinner. Night 1 was Gamla. Arrived at 18.00, and was the only person for a while. Service was very friendly, and efficient. I chose the asparagus soup, and Shut Up burger. Both were good,...especially with the Christmas beer. There's quite a lot of soup, so unless you're really hungry I'd go straight for the burger. Lovely food, just a little quiet, but it was a Monday.More

This was a very good restaurant. Probably the best that we went to while we were in Iceland. They had a large menu. Each of us had a different entree in each of us was very impressed. It was a nice setting. There were free...appetizers. The prices are a little expensive, but that is normal for Iceland. It was so good we wanted to go back again! You will not be disappointed.More

I had the cod in cream sauce. Cooked with potatoes, bacon, apples and blueberries - baked crisp salted kale garnish. A combo I never would have tried but it was absolutely incredible. Definitely stop in this small town and try the food here. Worth every...penny.More

We went to Iceland last week, and 'found' Akranes as a great spot for photographing the Northern Lights, due to the lighthouses there. Arrived about 8:30pm and very cold and dark with not much happening so we decided to go have something to eat. Googled...restaurants and the Gamla popped up as being within a mile. We found it, and went in. Was quite busy but they found us a table and we had a superb 2 course meal. The lobster soup was excellent, then the Tuna with Fennel and Dates was gorgeous .... Staff were very pleasant and accommodating and gave us some advice of where to see the lights which we did later). Well worth the stop for a delightful evening.More
