It is so sad that one of the most iconic cafe houses in town is, one of the bad ones. I went in today to grab some coffee for myself and a friend. One latte & americano for myself. I was quite surprised when I...saw the americano; half a liter of dark hot water smelling burnt. I asked if the barista was sure of what she gave me and she started arrogantly explain to me what espresso and americano are. I couldn't believe what I'm hearing. How can you talk down to your customer?!!!!!!!! By the way, this wasn't the first time I got arrogant, bad service and horrible food/ drinks from this place. Every time, I promise my self never to go there again but then I do, because it is next to my workplace and usually nothing else is open at that time.More

I used to visit frequently but it's just not worth it anymore. The recent makeover was not a success and I miss the staff they used to have. Last time I visited they were downright rude. They refused to serve a cup of coffee 30...minutes before closing time. There is so much competition in the area - one wonders whether the cafe can survive.More

We went there for breakfast as it is across our hotel. Not very crowded in the morning. We ordered cinnamon buns and cappuccino. Would say the food was average at an above average price.

We went for Sunday brunch with friends. We were hoping for a nice, relaxed get-together with delicious food. We got a major disappointment instead. The place was very overcrowded which caused huge lines to get food that was constantly running out from the buffet table....The tables were so close to each other that it was hard to even get to our seats. It was noisy and the atmosphere was busy and tense. The overall experience was stressful. Some people even gave up and left without eating - that would have been a better idea than staying. When you finally got food it tasted fairly good but that did not save the experience. The waiters were also trying their best. The critique goes to management and owners. They shouldn’t try to maximize profits by cramming in too many tables and too many reservations at the same time. That was the root cause of the problem. According to the waiters, one of the chefs couldn’t come to work which probably made the problem worse but it was not the sole cause. You shouldn’t book a table here or go here unless you know it won’t be crowded that time.More

Sunday morning at 11:15 the place was totally crowded and very noisy. This was emphasized by the fact that the setting is very greedy: there’s way too many customer tables, which makes moving around very difficult, and there’s a constant queue at the small buffet...table. What was on offer at the buffet was mediocre and did not match the reputation. There were some excellent elements, especially on the dessert side, but overall the menu is very limited and mundane. Friendly service, special diet needs were looked after.More

Ekberg is a very traditional cafe, and obviously something of a local icon going by the stream of people waiting for a table for the (very reasonably-priced) brunch on a Friday morning - how the staff manage to keep track of orders given the continual...game of Tetris they're engaged in to rearrange tables to accommodate different sized parties I have no idea! TBH the food and drink are OK but nothing exceptional, while the service is excellent. It does feel a little like they're trading on their long-standing reputation; amongst their pastries I'd pick out the Alexander, which is dense, sweet and doesn't taste of anything much at all, as being well past it's retirement date. Overall it makes for a bit of a "tea at the Ritz" visit - an enjoyable experience from a previous era.More
