The atmosphere is always pleasant but different from elswhere. You enetr the restaurant and the portier asks you if you are going to have dinner. Than you are seated and showed to a table usually by a waiter who is not very friendly. After a while comes a waiter who in turn is friendly and you start. I have had... More

Sea Horse is a classic. They also have their classic dish on the menu, but at lunch hour there's a changing offer. No pea soup today, that's for Thursdays. Today, working at a customer nearby, I decided to revisit this old familiar place for lunch. There was plenty of room, compared to the other newer places nearby. Good for me!... More

Went here last summer and planning to go back as soon as I am back in Helsinki again. This is the place I would take a visitor to taste the real quality Finnish food. As soon as I spotted the liver on menu I had to tasted and it got my approval, it was really good and there were plenty.... More

This restaurant has tasty traditional Finnish food and the portions are not too small. It would be a nice place to go again if they didn't have an obligatory cloak room fee (2 euro) that you have to pay to enter the restaurant. It is a "service" that nobody needs and you feel kind of cheated by it.

A little like stepping back in time to the 1950s or 60s, Sea Horse has quite a formal feel to it, but is, in fact, very relaxed, friendly and one of the less expensive meals we ate. The food is all traditional Finnish food, and is excellent. Portions are generous, service is efficient, and a large group of us that... More

The food was average but I thoroughly enjoyed having a good meal with nice Finns. I was especially impressed with how friendly and helpful the staff was.

Starter and main cource were like a eating in work canteen. Basic food without any taste. Dessert, cheesecake was at the same level as others.

The place is a legend in Helsinki and so everyone who visits it has a reason to do so. We went for a mid-week dinner with friends and from the start the service was really good. The servers knew their products like the back of their hands and could recommend dishes even as one of our party was last weeks... More

We were looking for some classic Finnish comfort food and were guided to the Sea Horse. It was an easy walk from our hotel in the Design district. The staff spoke English and had helpful suggestions for us. The food was expertly prepared, the pickled beets were the best I have ever eaten, and the atmosphere was unrushed and comfortable.... It is like going into a time machine. Very minimalist interior with a mural of sea horses. Menu is in multiple languages. You think it is another "tourist" stop that has lost its charm, but it hasn't. Lots of interesting menu choices. There are a (very) few vegetarian dishes including the mushroom rolls (in cabbage). Like eating at grandma's! Service... More
