Gyosai has received mixed reviews which is understandable as the place is quite unconventional: there are five seats, the place is decorated with Japanese paraphernalia, and Japanese TV shows are constantly on. The person running the place is also quite unusual as it's quite hard to evaluate his customer service. However, I'd say the place is worth trying, for 8,80... More

This small long standing Töölö area favorite is still the best place for sushi in Helsinki. Owner is a real character and joy to watch and listen while you wait your food. Only two tables so not a place for dinner but brilliant sushi for take away.

Very funny place, I enjoyed my stay while waiting for my take-away. But the sushi was no good at all, it looked nice but was probably old. I do not recommend a visit here, other than to enjoy a Sapporo or two.

Not in the middle of city but if you're anywhere around Töölö district and love sushi you should pop into this quirky, tiny sushi bar. I have had lunch here twice, including very fresh sushi, delicious miso soup and green tea. The selection is pretty much the same as in every other sushi joint but the sushi made by the... More

I love sushi and have been to many places. Last Tuesday I went there for a quick lunch. It was unfortunately one of worst I ever had! Not fresh, tastes really bad. If you are in the area, avoid this place. There are much better options close by.

Excellent authentic sushi set made a la minute for lunch. The owner has 15 years practice for runing the tiny little place decorated with japanese staff. Sushi was great and fresh. Certainly will pop up another time for picking up lunch.

Quirky little bit of Japanese soul in downtown Helsinki. Better sushi and cheaper than most places. Owner is a handful, but full of heart and seems to love his craft. Some people might not appreciate the banter, but I tend to find it entertaining. Sushi has flavour, the little shop has atmosphere and the prices are definitely competitive. Too bad... More

Tiny restaurant with two tables, handwritten price tags and loads of old Japanese posters doesn't look welcoming from the door, but don't turn back. The sushi is great and the owner adds charming touch to your experience with different, hilarious and almost a samurai-like serving.

This place must be the opposite of 'fancy', but you still have to love it. It's small, authentic, cozy, the owner/chef is a personage in his own right and the sushi feels a lot more real than in any of the other sushi places around (I've visited quite many of them). The owner really is what makes this 'restaurant' what... More

Small, but cosy. Visit Gyosai and it´s almost like visiting Japan! :)
