Went based on Tripadvisor reviews and enjoyed it greatly. Whilst the decor is a bit tired, the food was wholesome and very filling, with friendly staff who speak excellent English.

We were given this recommendation by the hotel, and enjoyed walking through a different neighborhood that felt a bit more off the tourist path. I am sure there are a lot of tourists there, but it felt more authentic. We went on the earlier side...More

We had a decent (though not exceptional) meal here. Good pyttipanna, okay reindeer and pleasant atmosphere. The pickles, sour cream and honey appetiser worked well. However on the Saturday night I went they put the foreigners into a ghetto at one end of the restaurant...More

My first time eating reindeer, I told the waitress. She suggested the Sauteed reindeer with mash potatoes and pickles dish and told me I'll be fine as long as I didn't give it a name lol. It was the best meal I've had on my...More

My wife and I had an evening meal here. The interior decor is dark and woody but don't let that put you off. The food is really good. The portions are ample and the food is tasty and well presented. I had Pyttipannu (Scandinavian hash)...More

If you are looking for an authentic Finnish experience, not a 'themed' restaurant aimed at tourists, then this is it! The service was lovely and attentive and the food was extremely good. It's traditional Finnish food very well made. Be aware the portions are large!...More

We tried this restaurant after reading other Tripadvisor reviews are are very happy with the choice. It is in a non-touristy neighborhood and was a bit tricky for us to find. Some type of scaffolding for building repair was impairing our view of the exterior...More

I went there because the tripadvisor reviews were good but even though i ordered uniquely finnish dishes i found it to be good but nothing out of the ordinary. The atmosphere is nice with a piano player but with nice linens, a real napkin and...More

The story of Kolme Kruunua ('three crowns') began in 1952, when restaurateur Irja Örn (1910-1992) together with her husband decided to renovate their café and bar Liisan Baari and turn it into a restaurant. Many still feel that the restaurant serves the very best meatballs, "Pyttipannu" ('hash') and fried Baltic herrings in the city. The well-preserved interior of Kolme Kruunua was designed by artist Emil Ruokolainen (1895-1968), who was a renowned decorative painter in his time. His artwork can be found, for instance, in several Finnish schools and churches. In the restaurant, his craftsmanship can especially be seen in the beautifully polished mirror hanging on the back wall. The glass paintings decorating the windows of Kolme Kruunua were designed and painted by artist Fritz Hilbert (1898-1981), who later became the artistic director of the S. Wuorio decorative painting company. Kolme Kruunua is one of the few restaurants in Helsinki where the demographic of the customers ranges from twentysomethings to over 80-year-olds. Some of the elder customers who remember their fathers spending time at the restaurant, now, in their twilight years, enjoy the atmosphere of the place themselves. In mid-1990s, the old wine bar was replaced with a bar counter, but otherwise the original interior with its wood paneling, old lamps, glass paintings and glass decorations has been preserved.
