This is the perfect place to end your explanation of the island fortress of Suomenlinna. The surroundings are quite nice, the food is some of the best local food I have ever had. They use premier local suppliers of fish, cheese and so on. The...food is made to perfection. Note that the 3 times I have been there the portions are quite big, so we have not had room for desert yet. What really sets this place apart,is the quality price ratio of the wines. I used to like the Savoy for top quality lical tastes, but their mark-up on wines is insane. I really suggest trying Lonna instead. IMPORTANT. The restrooms are located downstairs, and you will have to go outside to get there. Not so nice on a windy and rainy day. My suggestion is to take the JT Line Island hopper boat from the market square every 30 minutes . If the weather is good explore first ValliSaari, and/or Suomenlinna. If not, just get a feel for the area from inside the biat, and have a great meal at Lonna.More

We had a state of the art lunch here. The starters the main dishes as well as the desserts were all near food with many new ingredients never tasted before. The service the setting an island was just fabulous. Having been in the hospitality business all...my life and travelled the world I did not realize that just a short boat ride from my home there is a restaurant that can match any restaurants where ever they may be! Thank you for a great experience...will returnMore

Wonderful and innovative chef's 5-course dinner. Excellent service. Worth a trip in itself. Haven't visited the sauna yet, that will be left for the next time.

Lonna is located on a small island with the same name. It can be reached with a boat, starting from Helsinki market place harbour. The island is very small historical gun powder storage, now converted to a restaurant and event location. It’s worth visiting by...itself, but eating in the restaurant is an experience one shouldn’t miss, while on the island. The menu is contemporary fine dining, but not too fine, to be enjoyed in holiday attire. In the summer time they have tables also outside, and you can enjoy the dinner while watching the beatiful scenery of Helsinki archipelago and boat traffic passing by. The food is excellent and well prepared and service is friendly and professional. During our visit the speed of service could have been a bit faster, so it’s recommended to reserve enough time and warm clothes, since the wind on the islands is always cooler than on the main land. Table reservation is also recommended since the restaurant is not that big and it’s very popular.More

Fifteen minute boat ride from Helsinki Market square you will find a cool but not too cool restaurant. They'll tell you where the ingredients come from, but in a manner not too eager. So, service is fine, and our dinner was great. Main course for...my partner: baby lamb. For me: pike perch. Both with seasons vegetables, really fresh. Lovely, robust Italian rose. Not for shoestring budget, but still worth the money and "trouble".More

High quality local / Finnish ingredients combined with fine dining. Nice selection of wines which you can choose from a shelf. Great service. You should book ahead as the restaurant is small and if you can’t get a table there is not that much to...do on the small island while waiting for the next boat. Hidden gem due to its location even though well known by local food lovers.More

It's a cool overall experience I'd say. If the weather is good, the boatride here is fun and it's literally one minute walk from the pier to the restaurant. If you can eat outside, then awesome. Inside tends to get cramped with too many people...and even rather noisy. Is this one of these places where four out of five customers are female and half of them wear Marimekko stripes ?? I've been here twice and seems to be the case, I guess I better get one.. The food is good. No printed menus indicate the menu is changed often and is likely to contain fresh and local stuff according to the current season. This was a memorable experience - mostly due to Putin's visit in the nearby Suomenlinna, the sky was full of copters and the sea was full of fastboats... But we had a good time nevertheless.More

We visited Lonna to celebrate a friend birthday. The whole night was a beautiful experience. The restaurant is located in a small island just "in front" of Helsinki city center. You can take public boat there or rent a boat if you are many and...have a nice trip around Helsinki before arriving to the island. This island used to be a military base for mines deactivation, demagnetize boats and things related to mines in the sea. The place is super cute and works in the old base premises, no mayor changes can be done. The food was really good and they buy everything from local producers so everything is fresh and from the season. Service was great also. Totally recommend Lonna Ravintola, specially if you want to go somewhere different and nice.More

the menu was really short 3 items which were quickly defrosted lamb, arctic char (though the 'waitress' told us white fish and some vegan friendly cauliflower dish- there were 3 starters too herring on toast (very small), zucchini & tomato (very refreshing) and a chicken...mousse croquette (quite tasty) So the starers were ok but the mains and expensive sides were swimming in butter and cream - there was good technique shown by the kitchen, destroyed by some lazy execution. the service was fractured and haphazard - sloppy really - getting the menu and wine wrong etc - and expected a tip -some hope - big frown from her The drinks were really expensive 10€ for a small bottle of average 'craft' beer 58€ for a bottle 13€ plonk rose.. Beware of sitting outside as the seagulls will dive bomb you -so be careful- hide under a huge cover that blocks the view. overall with 10-13€ for a starter and 25-30€ for a main , in a restaurant with no view- it kinda takes the fun out of things . the ferry ride was fun , but the consensus of our party 7 people srong was .... be vegan and drink waterMore
