Great Swedish lunch

We stopped here an hour after arriving in Sweden, and found Berzelius to be the perfect starting point. My wife had the pork belly, while I tried the meatballs. Both dishes were excellent, and were complimented by small but nice (self service) salad bar. It was quite busy for a Friday lunchtime, which indicates people know what they can expect from a visit here. Would definitely come here again.

Good old Swedish home cooking at its best

It was the last night of our holidays and we wanted some good old Swedish home cooking and that’s exactly what we got. It was so delicious and the staff were so friendly and helpful explaining the various dishes. We ordered a selection of Swedish style tapas for starters, I got the pork belly with onion sauce and potatoes for mains and my husband ordered the pork belly with traditional potato cake and vodka marinated lingonberries. We were delighted to have found this spot and would recommend to family and friends.

Good food but waiters could do better.

I had a quick lunch here, and enjoyed the meatballs with mash potato and lingonberries. It was a shame the waiters didn’t mention the small salad bar, it was only as I’d had a salad bar for lunch in another restaurant, and saw some people with salad that I realised. And I had to ask about the free coffee after as well. But the food was fine, good meatballs and sauce with fang from the pickled cucumber and sweetness from the berries. I just felt that the service and cheeriness of the waiters could be improved and they could explain things a bit more

Never again, just getting worse and worse unfortunately

We are repeat guests, as we live right next to the restaurant. But over the years has gotten worse and worse and more and more expensive. Unfortunately, today was the last time we visit the place. We ate lunch. Cost SEK 140 without drink, salad, tea/coffee or cake. We took the meat dish of the day. It was supposed to be schnitzel, but we got a dry old Christmas ham that they breaded as a side dish, it was old boiled potatoes that were fried. I was hungry and didn't have much time to eat, as I was going back to work, so I had to eat everything. But my husband ate less than half of the dish! Bad service, a tired and unsociable waitress received us and didn't say a word when we said we were disappointed with the food. The waitress who cleared the plates was at least a bit nicer, but didn't know how to handle a disappointed guest. Of course we had to pay for the whole lunch. We will never come back and certainly will not recommend to anyone. Thanks.

Sirloin steak for SEK 195 beginners in the kitchen or lack of professional pride

Have eaten here several times and it has varied from very good to ok. Unfortunately ran into the real bottom last time. Three of us ordered this steak and the mere sight of it almost made us lose our appetites. Pale gray and largely cooked through, one could with good will make out the hint that there had once been blood in this piece of meat. Here, they have probably been quickly thawed, alternatively the pieces of meat have been taken out of a cold fridge and thrown onto the grilling tables. Fortunately for the restaurant, we were very hungry and bit into the food which tasted better than it looked, which in itself was not difficult. Normally I would have sent back what was served. The question you ask yourself is, how can you serve meat that looks and is cooked this way? What kind of respect do you have for your guests? Do you lack professional pride? Will never come back again.

Missing menu, size of portions

Missed a good piece of meat to order, would have liked a little more to choose from on the menu. We have been there both one and two years ago. Then we were satisfied. What has happened?? New owners?? We were there several families with mixed ages. Many of us ordered meatballs with mashed potatoes, it was good but way too SMALL portions. Probably won't return

Ordered beef brisket with accessories, completely inedible, tougher than the soles of my shoes. Left back o got pork and pick-up doughnut instead of the respective meatballs. Pork and shag doughnut tasteless , meatballs rock hard , mashed potatoes a dessert spoon big . Nice staff who it feels bad who will deliver the orders, never return.

The food took an hour and a half after the booked time to arrive. There were four of us at the table. Two were fed first and had time to eat almost before the other two were fed. The beef fillet was completely fried beyond recognition, potatoes were uncooked, the sauce was basically non-existent o totally tasteless. Topped with cabbage. Not worth 450kr!

Very nice atmosphere and great service. Normal prices nowadays. Food was quite disappointing. Fish gratin. What kind of cook lets fresh shrimps drown in some kind of Rhode Island dressing sauce? Tasteless dish. Never again.

Rudeness by a member of staff

The dinner and the service at the table was fine but I was really upset by the rudeness of the waiter at the bar when I came to pay the bill. A mistake had been made in the amount and when I objected he angrily contradicted me over and over again. Very aggressive. He finally checked with our table waiter and discovered the mistake. No apology but even more rudeness when I asked him if he had corrected the bill. I won’t be going to Berzelius again.

Summer vibes food and drink

First night and we found this buzzing restaurant bar and was busy for a reason. Had the Swedish meatballs and veal both didn’t want to end great flavours. Service was very good even when busy with lots of people. Ideal to have after drinks as bar vibe also with lots of outside seating.

Depressingly expensive dolmas and bad dill meat! / Where's my gherkin man? / Berzelius? More like Berzelibooo

The cabbage dolmas? (vegetarian!) was a big disappointment. The fungus that was apparently supposed to be present was conspicuous by its absence. Instead, the hard cabbage leaves enveloped a tasteless mash of potatoes, mushrooms? and other filling? Even for a cheaper penny it wouldn't have been good enough. The colleague who ordered the dill meat was sweating even more in the heat in his struggle to cut through the pieces. Hopefully the chef was just having a bad day.

Don't go here. Only home cooking as a la carte such as dill meat, cabbage dolmas, raggmunk, cod meatballs, cod meatballs. Not a piece of meat????? The food was cold, totally tasteless. How can you run a restaurant this way? When we complained, we got the answer: it was a shame that you didn't like the food!!!!!

Considering the Hotel Lorensberg is one of my regular ones to visit when in Gothenburg, I have also visited Berzelius Bar & Matsal on more than one occasion. The experience is always lovely. The last time I went here, I went for a quick lunch and some wine before I had to take the bus back home to Norway, but I have also dropped by here for a drink before going to bed on my multiple Gothenburg visits. Berzelius has a wide selection of beverages to choose from, their food is always high quality, and the staff considerate and professional. Will definitely return on my next trip to Gothenburg as well.

We had booked in to celebrate a birthday at Berzelius. We were treated to a very nicely laid table and great service. Nice to have a birthday present from the kitchen, much appreciated. So food of good class and so service in the same class. So we'll be back!
