Great, original food, wonderful place and incredibly cheap for what you have.
Our daughter did not do the tasting and she got a delicious chicken stewed in a sauce with chick peas and rice and this added only 4 euros to the menu!
We stayed two nights and ate in the restaurant every dinner, plus tried the lunchtime tasting menu. The lunchtime meals are a major operation and a joy to watch such a well honed performance. All the staff ran things like clockwork, so the chef was...More
There are some commenters that say that the "tasting menu" is quite pretentious.

What a stunning location, and fabulous tasting menu. It was such a treat to try their menu, so creatively put together, and beautifully presented little morsels of local produce. And the wonderful art and sculpture was simply not to be missed either. Highly recommended.
So wonderful to see an old historic Roça brought to life by chef João Carlos Silva.

I am sorry to reply in English. I don't really know -we had great difficulty making contact with Sao Joao as they didn't reply to my emails or messages to their Facebook page. We eventually booked (to stay there) through a very helpful agent - Vladimir at an agency called sao ferias. We turned up very late with no lunch booking and they served us lunch very graciously, however.
