Went there in September on a weekend. We treid to get outside spots but it was a sunny day so we went inside. It is quite cramped and dark but I think this is part of its charm. A cafe with true character. Apple pie and hot chocolate were amazing. And staff very friendly.

Call by here and enjoy the iconic view of Gamla Stan. We had a herbal tea served in handleless pottery mugs and pancakes. Hot and tasty and super friendly staff. Slightly odd recommendation but visit the loo! There's a quaint pretty old spiral staircase down to a basement which is quite something. Not recommended for those with walking difficulties.

The place is usually crowded. The main reason for this is that they serve a really good cup of hot chocolate. As a Belgian, I appreciate good chocolate. It's a pitty this place isn't in Belgium, as it would fit in with the small artisanal chocolata factories in cities like Bruges and Brussels.

The best bowl of hot chocolate I've ever had, and a lovely place to sit and watch the world go by in the pretty Stortorget square in the heart of Gamla Stan.

Had a lovely stop here to relax the legs and watch the tourists go by. We had a very nice cauliflower soup with bread and cheese and a white hot chocolate. Not quite traditional but very nice.

We went there, since we saw lots of people enjoying nice sweets. Its in a really nice spot, you can relax and watch people in the square. There is no internet (weird for a place in 2016). The coffee was ok and the sweets that we ordered were not something extraordinary. We tried fika in other places and they were... More

nice to sit on the square but stick with drinks and light fare. The salad & sandwich special we had were not good and only could a bit before pushing it away.

We had a 'fika' at this place. A cinnamon roll and a coffee. Both good. It's a small place, a bit chaotic at times, but always busy and no empty seats. Nice terrace too!

Chokladkoppen in Stockholm is a very busy cafe in a medium sized square along with several others. They offer a good selection of pies (e.g. chicken, broccoli and blue cheese), sandwiches and salads. They also serve soup and desserts, and of course coffee. It is a nice place for a stop to people watch. We returned for a second visit... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
