We went there, since we saw lots of people enjoying nice sweets. Its in a really nice spot, you can relax and watch people in the square. There is no internet (weird for a place in 2016). The coffee was ok and the sweets that we ordered were not something extraordinary. We tried fika in other places and they were... More

nice to sit on the square but stick with drinks and light fare. The salad & sandwich special we had were not good and only could a bit before pushing it away.

We had a 'fika' at this place. A cinnamon roll and a coffee. Both good. It's a small place, a bit chaotic at times, but always busy and no empty seats. Nice terrace too!

Chokladkoppen in Stockholm is a very busy cafe in a medium sized square along with several others. They offer a good selection of pies (e.g. chicken, broccoli and blue cheese), sandwiches and salads. They also serve soup and desserts, and of course coffee. It is a nice place for a stop to people watch. We returned for a second visit... More

In the old part of Stockholm this probably is the best café to have a high noon. No doubt you can find more classy establishments in the city with similar high quality product, but certainly not in such a friendly, unorthodox, diverse and relaxed environment. The sweets or cakes are outstanding and despite the effect on your diet or liver,... More

We went here for lunch. The place is quite cute and cosy. They have a great cake and hot drink selection but also offer savoury lunch options. It is indeed pricey, but the blueberry pie was great and so was their hot chocolate! (Just be careful if you sit outside as their tables are not very stable and you risk... More

Cozy place. Good hot chocolate, like the legend goes. Quite pricy, which is standard for Gamla Stan in general. Also, if you are an Astrid Lindgren fan, apparently, Karlsson lived on top of their roof. But do not quote me on that.

The hot chocolate was nice, but not really hot enough. The cinnamon bun came highly recommended but it let us down. It was not as flaky and light as we expected.

We read so much about “fika” and were very excited to sit and relax during our vacation with a nice coffee and a cinnamon bun. We chose this spot because it’s right in the main square. It was VERY busy but the staff were all friendly. The coffee was tiny but they offered free refills; conversely, the cinnamon bun was... More

We came here due to a recommendation in our lonely planet guide. The service was fine and the food was OK too but I didn't come out wowed by it all. We found far nicer places for cake on our journey through Stockholm.

Thank Amy P

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
