We ate here on a saturday morning and it was busy. Tables are first come first serve. So it can be a bit chaotic. It's a small place but the food is really good. I saw lots of people sit and leave because they weren't served immediately. I was served when I sat. it's a gamble really. The white hot... More

Cute, typically Swedish cafe (cozy) that doesn't feel as though it's in the middle of a tourist area. The hot chocolate is wonderful, and not too sweet.

really nice spot in the square in the old town and a gay coffee shop that's in a tourist hot-spot so a mixed clientele. Nice inside with small tables and dark Swedish feel - something out of an off-the-wall Swedish movie or a Bergman epic. nice service, with friendly staff - I'm surprised at the earlier feedback as the people... Both the waiters I said "hi" while entering the café didn't answer. I ask a waitress where to sit and she just points at the tables with her hand. Not a word, not a smile. "Good" beginning! The place is cozy, small, with little candles on the tables, nice atmosphere. I order a hot chocolate and a cinnamon roll, they... More

I had the rubarb tart, on the terrace, and a macchiato. Both were good. The public was mixed gay/straight. As expected rather expensive.

Went there in September on a weekend. We treid to get outside spots but it was a sunny day so we went inside. It is quite cramped and dark but I think this is part of its charm. A cafe with true character. Apple pie and hot chocolate were amazing. And staff very friendly.

Call by here and enjoy the iconic view of Gamla Stan. We had a herbal tea served in handleless pottery mugs and pancakes. Hot and tasty and super friendly staff. Slightly odd recommendation but visit the loo! There's a quaint pretty old spiral staircase down to a basement which is quite something. Not recommended for those with walking difficulties.

The place is usually crowded. The main reason for this is that they serve a really good cup of hot chocolate. As a Belgian, I appreciate good chocolate. It's a pitty this place isn't in Belgium, as it would fit in with the small artisanal chocolata factories in cities like Bruges and Brussels.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
