This was a cozy little restaurant with nice staff. The sushi was tasty, but not the best I've ever tried. One in our company ordered food that he would cook himself, at the table. So he got some sort of stove plate, so that he cooked and ate along with us. That was quite different and cool. If I go... More

We found it on trip advisor and we did not regret it. We ordered gyoza, california rolls and spicy tuna. Everything was delicious! We loved it! The place was nice and the staff very polite. It is definately must visit restaurant if you like nice authentic japanese food. The prices are reasonable, not very low but not too high.

This was once one of the best Japanese restaurants in Stockholm, its not anymore. Its obvious that the current management isn't Japanese, the details that true Japanese chefs bring to the dishes are all gone... Sadly. For good, authentic Japanese cusine i would go elsewhere.

We were impressed by the quality & authenticity of the food. We ordered gyoza, sushi and agedashi tofu & house pickles. Everything was delicious. It was very expensive for Japanese food compared to what you'd pay in Australia. But Gamla Stan was generally lacking in quick cheap eats.

So much better than it looks from the outside. This is not a tourist trap but a genuin place with quality food. Go there and have some traditional asian dishes.

Unfortunately only went on my own so I wasn't able to sample very much of the menu. But the sashimi and gyoza were both excellent. There were only two options for sake on the menu which seemed a bit of a shame to me for a Japanese restaurant! Also a bit on the pricey side - dinner for one, with... More

Coming from Shanghai I am pretty picky about chinese dishes. But the dim sum in this place is the best you can find in town! Don't miss out on the fried pan cakes with spring onion, absolutley delicious.

Very busy restaurant with both tourists and locals. The stir-fried rice noodles (Cantonese kuey teow) with beef was delicious and the best I have ever tried in Europe. The rolled rice noodles (cheong fun) was superb but not warm when served. The other dim sum dishes was delicious except the xiao-long-bao (too dry) was disappointed. I felt the food standard... A fairly genuine Japanese restaurant but menu strays a bit into other areas. We stuck with traditional Japanese with edamame, gyoza, yakitori, tempura (and Asahi). Very satisfying meal selection that worked well to share. Was a busy Sunday night and wait staff were a bit stretched but overall worked out OK.

We have been to Shogun for dim sum on several occasions over the last two years (i.e. since they changed location to the one on Stora Nygatan), and we have never been disapponted. It is very hard to get good dim sum in Stockholm. Yes, there are a lot of dumpling places in Stockholm (most of them serving goutie (potstickers)... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
