This was our first Fika stop (but not the last) while visiting Stockholm It is a little removed from the main touristy areas but easy to find. We had coffee and cinnamon buns and a very good berry cake and enjoyed everything. There is a small area outside to eat and several rooms inside but no air conditioning (not unsusal... More

We came to Stockholm via a cruise and only had a short amount of time for our tour. The tour guide ( the most colorful guide in Stockholm ) recommend the restaurant for traditional food. We had the Swedish meatballs with lingon berries and potatoes. It was fantastic! The gravy was rich but the berries added a nice bite to... More

If you want a less crowded experience than on one of Gamla Stan's main streets, go to Under Kastanjen. The food may not be the very best you've ever tried, but it is ok and the environment is really nice. We ate at the veranda outside in the evening hours

While walking through Old Town, we wanted a traditional Swedish dish. My sister and I ordered two dishes and shared. The Swedish meatball plate with lingon berries was delicious and so was the lunch of the day - pork loin filled with plums. The potatoes had a delicious gravy and the bread was wonderful. Cute interior. Nice atmosphere. Good price.

The waitress pretty much ignore the visitors in the peak hour. The lady selecting the place for you first offers you a seat and then asks to change the table because your order is not expensive enough to take that table :(

Wonderfully located under the chestnut tree, this restaurant i well worth a visit. The atmosphere is something special but if you really want to enjoy, sit down inside, since the porch part of the restaurang is a little bit to crowded for my taste. If the staff would remove one table, it will be just fine. The food was ok!... More

Stumbled upon this small (12 table) cute cafe slightly off the beaten path near the royal palace in the Gamla Stan neighborhood of Stockholm. Choose between tasty sandwiches, soups, pastries, Swedish meatballs or the entrée of the day (braised short ribs our day). A small selection of beer and wine are available. Order at the counter and then find a... More

I really like the idea of preparing everything from scratch. And being gluten sensitive I really appreciate the availability of proper gluten free food and 'fika'. The owner is celiac, so staff should be updated on cross-contamination hazards. (despite this, the girl behind the counter seemed puzzled when I asked for 'clean' butter for my bread. hopefully a single occasion?... More

We have found this cosy nice restaurant by chance. A nice surprise no doubt. We've had traditional dishes, all of them being very good. The only backdaw is the amount of food: we have left being still hungry.

Excellent food at reasonable prices, not a tourist trap. Good helpful service and English spoken. Nice to sit out the front on the boardwalk.

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
