Situated in the square next to the royal palace this is a convenient place to stop for a quick bite to eat. We enjoyed a lovely prawn sandwich and a smoked salmon and avocado roll wasked down with strong coffee. Decent friendly service despite mixed reviews! Down side- no toilet in the cafe, you need to request the key for... More

Nicely positioned small restaurant on the Nobel museum square, in Gamla Stan (old town). It is easy walking distance from the palace and anywhere else on this island. I enjoyed relaxing here, enjoying a mid afternoon meal, while watching tourists and locals wander by. I had the Croque Monsieur smoked ham on toast with a dash of Dijon mustard, followed... More

We ended up here after finding other places that had great reviews totally packed. Friendly wait staff, free wifi and really good food! This was a perfect pit stop for our family....❤️

We waited for an outside table (as I think everyone was doing) so when one opened we jumped on it.....all 6 of us! Surprisingly the service was quick even though it was a Saturday and the square was VERY busy!!! I had a local Bryggmastaren Premium Dark beer and it was lovely. It was a warm day in Stockholm and... Was able to eat alfresco whilst having lunch here and the cafe is in a great position in a quaint square. Went for the meatballs which were perfect and my partner went for a grilled sandwich and she really enjoyed hers too. Both meals went down well with a couple of cocktails (greta garbo's) and as I agree with others... More

Ordered beer and two entrees: one for my daughter a "to go" for a tuna sandwich. Not much vegeterian choices. I ordered for myself a herring platter. Waited a very long time and then did not have time to purchase something on the next corner and make it to our tour bus to go on the canal tour. While waiting... More

This is a tourist cafe first and formost. It's in a good location opposite the Nobel museum and on a charming square. With pavement seating to rest your legs and have a drink or snack whilst taking in the scandinavian atmosphere. As it was mid-summer the square was packed and the waitresses had blue and yellow garlands in their hair,... More

We stopped in for lunch. The square was quite busy so we sat inside. Where it was a little warm and quiet. The server was friendly but the service was extremely slow. My husband enjoyed the meatballs. I shared a ham and cheese sandwich with my son and there was only one piece of ham and one piece of cheese... More

We sat on the outdoor part of the cafe overlooking the Nobel Museum at the Swedish Academy. Beautiful square all around featuring Swedish architecture. We had a couple of traditional Swedish dishes featuring pickled herring prepared two different ways, and smoked salmon with a green salad, which were very good quality and delicious. We wanted a light supper and shared... More

We sat on the square where the Nobel museum is located and watched the people move by. We enjoyed the ambience and the cold lager and aquavit. The prices were a little high but the venue is really good. We did not eat. The bathroom and it's access is a must see. It is entered from the alley through an... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
