I chose this restaurant for our wedding anniversary dinner and it did not disappoint. I had requested a romantic table and we were given a lovely semi-private little alcove with red roses placed at the table. It was a nice touch. This restaurant is good because it is down to earth. They know what they are and they don't pretend... More

Fem Små Hus offers an ambiance which paints the Oldtowns history, brick walled cellars and a meny based on Swedish specialties. It has over the years become a little less "super fancy class" although the menu has changed very little over the years. Prices are high but the set menues ( a la carte also available ) with the wine... More

The building itself is old as Metusalem, dating back to the 1680s. If you study some of the bricks in the brick wall downstairs, you will see the imprints of small children's hands on some of them. This is due to the fact that children were used as labour to pick the new burned stones out of the mold. Quite... More

This restaurant is actually 5 small houses joined together to form one restaurant. We sat in house four and it was like eating in a brick wine room. Very nice ambiance. The food was delicious. I had the fixed menu that included smoked reindeer and Arctic char. My husband had the other fixed menu that included gravalax ( best he... More

I came to this restaurant tonight after walking around Stockholm for 6 hours. I have to admit that I have been blown away by this beautiful city and its rich history. This restaurant and my meal simply put a perfect ending to a memorising day. I went for salmon for the starter and reindeer for the main - both of... More

We ate here our first and only night in Stockholm before we left on a Baltic cruise. It was the perfect restaurant in the city's Gamla Stan section - charming brick vaulted rooms, each a romantic setting. The menu is diverse and offers a variety of Swedish classic dishes. Each of our meals was exquisitely prepared. The veal was delicious... More

Wonderful ambience in this historic building located in Old Town Stockholm. Great selection of both fish and meat well prepared in a Swedish fashion.

Food was very good- we tried elk & reindeer appetizers and Arctic char & perch for main. The place was cute and charming but service was not so good. It is located in a multi level building in Gamla Stan and not in a touristy place. We walked in and there was no greeter on the main level so we... More

Staying in Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen

Neighborhood Profile
Gamla Stan & Riddarholmen
Gamla Stan is Stockholm’s historic old town and home to the Swedish Royal Palace. It’s the most central island of Stockholm and accompanied by the small island of Riddarholmen, mainly known for its famous Riddarholm Church. Gamla Stan tends to be a bit touristy at times but is definitely worth visiting: take a stroll past the well-preserved buildings and through the small (and also Sweden’s narrowest) alleys, which will make you feel like you’ve travelled back in time. This neighborhood offers a great combination of historical buildings and traditional Swedish restaurants.
