The above titel refers not only to the atmosphere in this place but also to our party counting four aged ex-pilots .The menu is complete and contains many of our traditional dishes . We all choose the fried baltic herring ,the food we where brougt up on , now listed as unsuitable for consumption on a regular basis but as... More

We have selected the restaurant based on its location as it was close to our hotel and it turned out to be an amazing experience. We had the saltcured salmon as starter which was simply so fresh and delicious, after we shared the veal mousseline, which is almost like meatballs, but better and more juicy. It was the best local... More

Tried the fried herring filets with mashed potatoes. A classic dish served continously since this place opened almost 90 years ago. The melted butter, heated until almost burnt, is the perfect companion.

Last night we, a party of five, had dinner at Tranan. We were really nicely greeted when we arrived and got a nice table by the window. We all decided to eat "Kungsflundra" (plaice) on the bone and the two men were ok with that - and we, the women wanted to know if we could have the fish taken... More

Every year when in Stockholm, we visit. My wife ALWAYS orders the Skagen toast as a main and I alternate between the meatballs and some fish dish. We greatly enjoy the ambience and attentive service we receive. The prices are reasonable for Sweden, although high for us from the New World!

Tranan is a traditional restaurant that has existed for almost 90 years. In other words a classical restaurant here in Stockholm. Here you go to have a very nice lunch or dinner as well. Lamb chop, Steak tartare, Entrecôte, "Råraka" with caviar, Fish dishes and also vegetarian options. Very friendly staff who contribute to that you gladly wants to return.... More

We wanted a special anniversary meal with an authentic Swedish flavour. The man at the front desk of our hotel sent us here. I asked our waitress to help us build such a meal. She brought us two different wines, a caviar appetizer, two main courses (fried herring and veal meatballs) and two chocolate truffles. The total price was 1520SEK... More

We booked a reservation and upon arriving no one greeted us. We waited near the bar and stopped a waitress to tell her we had a reservation. She responded, rather curtly, that they normally great customers at the front door. I replied there was no one at the front door. She then directed us to a table which had not... More

We had to go see friends in this area so the Grand Hotel Concierge recommended this restaurant. It is very crowded and lively. The service was prompt and at times felt rushed. I had a amazing vegetarian dish Truffle spaetzle with artichoke, oyster mushroom, savoy cabbage and green pea cream. My DH had Tuna. We both had the tomato and... More

Staying in Vasastan

Neighborhood Profile
Vasastan is one of those neighborhoods that almost looks too good to be true. It has the winning combination of a central location, tranquility, and beautiful buildings – housing sophisticated bars and eateries – that makes this neighborhood Stockholm’s most sought-after place to live. If walking through this area makes you feel like walking through a fairy tale or picture book it’s no surprise, as it’s actually the film set of the famous Swedish children story Karlsson-on-the-Roof. No matter what season, Vasastan manages to impress in the sunshine, covered in snow and won’t even lose its charm when soaked in rain.
