I went there for a special dinner event from the restaurant. There are guest chefs from Japan offering authentic Japanese cuisine. The portion was small. We were both still hungry after the 6 course menu plus dessert. There was long waiting time between courses since the owner and waiters were busy greeting with few regulars. We waited for one hour... Modern Japanese-inspired food. We had the omakase (chef's choice) - 6 courses with dessert - and it was excellent. Staff is friendly, helpful, professional and efficient leaving you with just the right amount of interruptions for service but plenty of time to enjoy the food and the company undisturbed. Dinner can be a bit costly but is well worth it.

Based on a few earlier visits some years back, I was excited to see how this place had evolved along the years. Unfortunately, this time the whole experience - the service as well as the food - was a complete disaster. After the orders had been made, we're told (not once, but twice - as the waitress kept on coming... More

This was a very highly rated restaurant and clearly meant to be a treat. Sadly it was wasted on me. I like to eat and enjoy food as an essential addition to an evening and not the main focus. The tiresome interruptions for detailed introductions to every dish and the overly creative recipes were not to my liking and the... More

Went for dinner and we had the Omakase menu with the corresponding wine menu. All food in this menu was excellent. Nothing to complain about – definitely worth the price. The wine selection was good however two out of six wines were a bit off compared with food but again that’s very individual (still good wines!). Décor is modern and... More

Umami was recommended by a colleague who had dinner there a couple of nights earlier. I am glad I listened to him! The meal was amazing...we ordered a la carte and everything was excellent. The service (I didn't get the name of the server) was great. The Chilean Sea Bass was the best and you should definitely try it!

I had dinner here with work colleagues and we had the chefs choice with wine pairing (6 course dinner) - it was fabulous. The wine pairings were perfect with the dishes that ranged from quail to Kobe beef to sushi! We loved it - it's a long meal - so be prepared - but well worth it. The restaurant is... More

Umami is still a great restaurant. We had the "Omakase" menu (chefs choice of 6 dishes" at DKK 650,- excl. wine. The first dish was a little bland (halibut with nashi pear and fennel) but the rest of the dishes were absolutely amazing. It bothers me that they still use foie gras considering the amount of animal torture involved, but... More

Fantastic service, all of the staff greets you upon arival. The tasting menu is both innovative and had a high quality. Its perhpas a bit pricy (650 kr) for the 6 dishes but if you are willibg to spend that on an experience Umami can really deliver.

I love Japanese food and their « fusion » concept seemed interesting, but after the dinner I didn’t feel totally satisfied… quite sadly. Staff is great, and they really take the time to welcome you (a little bit too ceremoniously however) and explain you the general idea of the restaurant, the dishes composition… and every ingredient. As they suggested, the... More

Description
A Japanese Restaurant with a French accent, Umami is of one of the most visually striking restaurants Copenhagen has ever seen. inspiration comes from Jesper Boelskifte, who dreamed of opening an Asian restaurant in Copenhagen, which stimulates all five senses simultaneously. But there's a sixth sense, which Umami explores. In terms of the cuisine, the intention was to be on par with Robert de Niro’s Nobu restaurant in New York. And the design would be in the same class as Morimoto in Philadelphia. Jesper’s dream became a reality with UMAMI, located on a prestigious street in the heart of Denmark’s capital.Visually, perhaps the most compelling element is a sculptural curtain with color-changing lights. A mood- generating concept which matched the vision of Jesper, who wanted to woo guests into a relaxed state of tranquility. The sculptural curtain and décor concept was developed by Orbit Design Company in London, whose client roster includes high profile brands such as Louis Vuitton, among others. Orbit was responsible for the interior design as well as the furniture, which was custom-made for UMAMI.The previous tenant was a bank, the remnants of which remain in the iconic metal door to a vault downstairs, which still has a security device. In the basement at UBAR, customers can choose from an extensive array of upscale cocktails. From lemon grass infused saké to a variety of martinis to Kirin beer. While seated at the elongated bar, a DJ serves equally delicious lounge and jazz music.Customers can go directly upstairs to any of the seats at the sushi bar with a front row centre view of the sushi chef in the open kitchen. Continuing upstairs to the first floor, there’s an extensive space able to accommodate 120 guests, immersed in a total, all encompassing experience. Enjoying the utmost in professionalism.
