In the heart of Rethymno centre, a few minutes walk north from the port. Very nice garden, well arranged ventilators so customers can enjoy a pleasant cool breeze on a ungodly warm and humid August night. Well thought dishes, merging tradition with modern execution in generous portions. Very well executed risotto with snails (which had been separated from their shell... More

What a hidden gem in the old town of Rethymnon! The food was prepared by the young chef of Crete 2016 and style was creative cretan. The food was suberb! Me and my sister were very pleased with the super tasty food and atmosphere in the dining area which was gardenlike. Would definitely go again! We recommend to try lamb... More

Visited this family run, traditional taverna having wandered around the, rather unimpressive, Fortezza. Found mention of this restaurant in the Rough Guide and stumbled upon it. The restaurant was busy but the family made room for the five of us. The food was beautifully tasty and all freshly prepared. The bread was to die for and the meat, risotto and... More

Excellent appetizers, great main dishes, and a very good wine list. The service was professional and the prices very reasonable for the value of the food. Not to be missed if you are visiting Rethymno.

Truly a fabulous meal. Food has it's roots in traditional Cretan cuisine but injects some creativity. Very friendly and attentive service. One of my favorite meals in Crete! The traditional balls of Cretan greens are a must!

We booked based on previous reviews - it's popular and lots of people arrived around 8pm. Food was lovely: lamb in ceramic pot, smoked salmon pasta, chicken fillet, ravioli. Perhaps a little salty but very tasty and nicely presented. We also tried the dessert pie from a local village - interesting combo of pastry, cheese and honey.

Amazing food and service! We didn't have a booking but they squeezed us into the beautiful courtyard on a table which wasn't reserved. Very glad we tried the traditional food and took the waitresses advice on rose wine recommendations. Probably the best roses Iv ever had. We had two starters of the cheese and seafood saga aka (amazing flavours). Both... More

Probably our favorite restaurant from a 8 day stay in the area. It was the first one we visited after arriving late. So we sat down to eat just before midnight and had the most delicious meal - with a carafe of chilled red wine. The food is really fresh and incredibly interesting. There are the usual - Greek salads,... More

I visited the place after surfing in internet and decided to visit with my family without making reservations. It was good we arrived quite early (about 8pm in early August) as they managed to find us a nice table (near the famous well, hence the name of the restaurant, though also near to the noisy kitchen). Food and service were... More

Description
The restaurant is on the site where once stood a Venetian building which was linked to the residence on the south side through a doorway. It is believed that where the covered dining area stands was once a large storeroom and animal stable. The dining courtyard was indeed a courtyard and animal feeding area. In 2003 the chef and owner Harris Pavlakis decided to open the restaurant. The restaurant serves traditional local and greek dishes with local products and provides a friendly and romantic atmosphere. Our restaurant is certificated for Cretan Cuisine from The Greek Academy Of Taste and has won 2 gold medals one in the 9th contest of Cretan Traditional Cooking and the other in the 6th contest of Cretan Traditional Cooking.
