Situated in the beautifully maintained Municipal Gardens Le Jardin is the perfect spot to relax with a coffee, a beer or a snack from the surprisingly varied menu. Friendly staff, efficient service a variety of drinks and cold beer in a cold glass. What more...could one ask?More

This is an awesome place to eat in Rethymnon. The restaurant is in the middle of a beautiful garden. There is vegan, vegetarian and omnivore food available. I would recommend the tortilla with falafel and avocado. It's a fresh, delicious snack.

We had walked from the bus station, working up an apetite. We decided to cut across the Municipal Park, and right there in the centre was this delightful cafe, Le Jardin. Surrounded by beautiful trees, shrubs and plants we rested, enjoyed cool drinks and some...club sandwiches and then resumed our journey, refreshed and invigorated. What a great find.More

Found this by accident while visiting the park. Lovely to relax in the shade beneath a large umbrella and enjoy the peaceful atmosphere of the garden. Coffee also more than €1 cheaper than the nearby Old Town. Friendly staff too. I will return!

Called in yesterday for a coffee with friends after lunch in time. Chose here as it was close to where our cars were parked. Other than a children's party, no problem with that in any way, we were the only customers. There was plenty of...staff on hand, who all seemed to be more interested in their mobile phones than anything else. Our order was taken but in what I could only describe as an off hand manner not the usual friendly style normally associated with Rethymno. Our server came over with a tray holding our drinks, four coffees of differing varieties, a glass of water each plus sugar etc. There was a lot on a small tray. The server instead of moving round the table chose to lean across and in the process spilled most of the contents over me. He should have made service in two visits to the table not one, no doubt keen to get back to their mobile phone, and certainly should not have attempted to lean across the table as he did. OK you may say accidents can happen, but this was careless and poor service, but worse was to come. The attitude was even worse. As I made my way to the toilet area all I was given was a piece of paper toweling to help me wipe down the mess. Made worse as I was wearing a white sweater. Nobody came to see how I was managing or to offer assistance. Only when I emerged several minutes later and went over pointing out there was a real problem did anyone do anything. My jumper was taken behind the counter and 15mins or so later was given back in much the same state as when it was taken. No real apology with any degree if sincerity was offered. OK they waived our bill, probably less than €10 in all. In my opinion they should have offered to clean it and for me to collect it in a few days, that would have been fine with me, plus if course a better attitude. I won't be returning, a shame as in summer it's a nice spot to go for coffee.More

I found this cafe during a previous wander into the public garden which provides a little oasis of cool shade from the hot climate. The locals certainly know about it because when we ate there seemed to be no other tourists there, but lots of...locals. We had breakfast one on one of the last mornings in Rethymnon and I wished we had found it sooner. I had sort of pork/bacon fry up with fried mushroom and two fried eggs all with a Greek twist. Those reading who think this is a traditional English breakfast - it is not! It isn’t a large breakfast either for those with a healthy appetite but it certainly satisfied me along with a glass of orange juice and some toasted bread. (Don’t expect normal toasted bread either). My wife had a toasted ham and cheese sandwich because she doesn’t like eggs and pretty much every other breakfast dish had eggs. (Various types of omelette) All told less than €10 for a perfect start to the day. The cafe also does snacks and I think enough for a light lunch. Worth a look if you are in the area and in need of a snack.More
