First went to Alana's in 2015. Been back a further 8 times over the past 3 years whilst on our holidays in Crete. Brilliant restaurant, lovely atmosphere, very friendly staff and great food. We will definitely visit again next year when we return to Crete.

This is probably the best restaurant in whole of Rethymno - we had the best food! Delicious meats cooked to perfection and very good service! This is worth a visit!

The best meal and service we have had in the past 2 weeks touring around. The Crenetian plate appetizer was awesome! Good wine list. Impeccable service.

We chose this place based on the menu and the look of the terrace. The review at the time of writing had this at 39/300 but it should be higher, we were very impressed with every course and the wines. The staff (as is common...More

Recommended by the apartment owner, this was a delight to find. We have been to Crete 5 times, and reviewed many excellent tavernas - but I made an early mistake by not differentiating between a 5 star taverna, and a 5 star proper restaurant (so...More

Description
Alana Fresh food straight from the market. Specializing in grilled meat and Cretan cuisineThe restaurant's name derives from the old times. Alana was a place that kids of all the neighbourhood used to join together and play. It was first established in 1986 at the heart of the old town of Rethymno in Salaminos street , the central street under the castle of Fortezza and used to be one of the first tavernas in the area. With 200 seats it was the most crowdy place of the old town. In 2002 under new management, the place transformed to a more relaxing restaurant with 100 seats based on good quality products, attendive service and reasonable prices. Alana made a new beginning, changing totally the style of the restaurant, serving unique dishes of traditional fare in a relaxing setting full of flowers creating the perfect backdrop for a dining experience highlighted by inspired cuisine and impeccable service. The restaurant has attracted both tourists and local people drawn to the superb food, charm and hospitality of its owners. The restaurant serves healthy Greek and Mediterranean cuisine, using products sourced locally, cooked with care and it has been established as one of the best restaurants in town, based on the customers’ reviews. The extensive a la carte menu includes favourites like lamb with artichokes, Cretan smoked pork “apaki” and stuffed vine leaves, chargrilled steaks and beef burgers, grilled vegetables with feta cheese and oregano, wild greens with tomato, garlic and potatoes. Unique home made deserts are also offered.
